+Whitewingdevil To be fair, this is probably the second time LRR has played with cards from Alara block. The first time is likely the Pot O'Gold video they did for MTGOAcademy.
The Lorwyn flavor text of Oblivion Ring is "a circle of sugar and a word of forbiddance," and the Shards one is "a circle of light and a word of confinement." Huh, cool.
I just watched, all on youtube. My only problem was the draft itself - after the first few cards, I basically just skipped the draft, because I wasn't familiar with the format (which, to be fair, basically doesn't exist). Also, I couldn't keep up with either player's picks because they weren't up, and their reasoning wasn't clear (again, mostly because this format doesn't exist). That said, everything else was great. The card reader helped IMMENSELY. Showcasing different matches mostly regardless of record was great, allowed plenty of variety and interest. The setup of the video itself is actually pretty amazing - I get to see literally everything, from the board state to the players to the cards themselves, it's all awesome and exactly what I want from this kind of thing. I actually wish everyone had the card recognition technology you all have here - it would make pretty much every form of physical coverage twice as good as it is now.
I really love these drafts that are done the only issue I have and that has been mentioned previously is the draft segment which is my favorite part. It's really hard to know what's happening during that segment and I'm not sure there's an easy fix. Maybe make a mtgo type set up where you have Paul open them beforehand and line them up like in mtgo, screen shot it, and number the packs. It would create a situation where Graham (our followed player) starts with pack 1 and so below we can see all 15 cards. He then takes his pick and gets pack 2, repeat. Even if cards are being taken from the packs we'll still be able to see what all 15 were in each pack, what was taken, and then compare what's left to what was there to start. I'm sure this would be a huge ordeal but may be worth it if paper drafts are going to be more common?
Okay, I know I am a couple years behind, but Graham, Telemin Performance is probably bad in Draft, but is in fact a Legacy SB staple, mostly in stuff like Storm decks.
2:02:34 Sphinx should have gotten exiled. It was the target of an ability. Crystallization would exile it at that point. Didn't change the outcome, but that was an error.
It would have been nice (if able) to get the auto card recognizers on James and Graham's cards. 42 minutes in. a) YAY! Done with drafting. b) I have no idea what's going on. Maybe... Paul can narrate a single drafter's picks?
I had a lot of trouble reading the cards while they were drafting and james talked about his picks as if he was drafting in online wich made it hard to understand the others sometimes When they held them closers to the cams it was alot easier to read it would probably be better if the two with the drafting cameras also have mics so you can understand them over the small talk from the others (Maybe graham had one i had an easy time understanding him)
also serge is too nice sometimes. he warns his opponents of things. and a more cutthroat player would've let his opponent attack and then blow him out with the double capsule and then block the now non flying 2/1 but instead he did it pre attackers and left the elemental and the second stormblade alive. granted he got to nab the birds but still. lol
Depends on how long ago this happened. What was the airdate? If it's recent, then yeah, but if it's older, then it was probably tthe SOI pre-pre-release.
"lets not tap our mana bad" taps a dual instead of a basic lol. but also i love how serge says he doesnt like the zombies against artifacts gets talked into playing it because he takes artifacts then faces the mirror match lol
Well I mean I watched it, I'm just more partial to watching actual games of magic and figure that If someone wants to cut close to the action, it's a fine courtesy to let them.
At 2:02:40, shouldn't serge's sphinx be dead b/c it was targeted by an ability while it had crystallization on it? Also, why didn't he activate sludge strider for lethal when those 5 thopters (that never should have entered play as sphinx should have been dead)?
that was almost back to back mistakes from cam. he should have played out the predator dragon pre-combat and attacked back to back turns because the predator dragon has haste (game over). also was so dumb to not fiery fall the behemoth.
+exaveron I would disagree on the play with the predator dragon since playing it that turn and attacking through would have left him shields down and a single red permanent on James side would have been lethal since it would have given the spider +1/+0.
Cam I love you but please for the love of all the Gods of all the Realms stop card flicking! The noise it makes on mic is somewhere between intensely infuriating and aurally nauseating. Other than that, great stream guys, thanks very much!
