This is the sixth part of a multi part series where we will be fully deleting the Active Fuel Management (AFM) / Displacement on Demand (DOD) system from my 2014 Silverado with the 5.3L L83 motor. This process is the same for most Silverados, Sierras, Tahoes, Yukons, and Suburbans made after 2006.
In this video we are showing how to install the L83 5.3L motor back into my silverado and this process should be very similar to the L86 6.2L. This process will directly apply to the 2014 - 2018 Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra models. We will also be showing how to correctly install the harmonic balancer back onto the motor as well as all of the engine accessories.
In part seven of this series we will be showing how to reinstall the motor back in the truck and installing the remaining components on the motor such as the harmonic balancer, intake, and accessories.
This video also includes all of the 5.3L L83 torque specs necessary to reinstall your motor. The 6.2L L86 torque specs should be similar (if not the same).

The yt algorithm must have heard me cussing. I just finished up one of these jobs . 15' L83 . Its good you stress the prep involved before assembly. Thats where the secret lies in it not coming back. The boltup is the easy part when everything is ready. Great video! I only disagreed with a couple of words used for the B+ connections at starter and alternator where 'grounding points' was used. Looks like a ground eyelet but is actually the b+ connections. Thats all.

Cliff, I had a question about the head bolt torque specs. You stated the 115 ft-lb for the head bolts. Chilton has 59 Ft-lb 1st pass then + 90 degrees 2nd pass then +60 degrees 3rd pass. Does all the just equal or the same as 115 ft-lbs? Thanks for any insight. BTW GREAT series of videos on this. I'm about to start reassembling my 2015 Silverado 5.3.

@TheSundaeDrive

I wasn't having any issues yet but I wanted to prevent a failure from occuring in the future (plus make the videos). I looked into the tuners but they don't prevent the failure from occuring even if installed from day one. The problem seems to be far too common for me to let it go and risk the motor. And now I will have a little more power added 😁

@michaelkarell4559
@michaelkarell4559 4 года назад

If you are removing the motor from the vehicle you have to undo the torque converter bolts so that the enge can separate. Otherwise it is connected to the torque converter which is pushed into the transmission pretty far. Now if you are leaving the motor attached to the transmission, you don't need to undo the bolts.
