Bought one of these knock-off disablers a while back for $54 and the little guy actually works great! Haven't seen any problem with it drawing on the battery overnight either, although my Yukon (2012 SLT 4x4) is my daily driver. I know eventually my 200K+ mile 5.3L AFM lifters will fail, but I do believe this will extend its life quite a bit as I'm not getting any lifter tick and not even seeing any oil consumption. Funny how some comment on having to do a DoD/AFM delete to "do it right" like this guy doesn't understand that. SMH
I agree..BUT if ur not independently wealthy this actually works...I have a 07 avalanche 5.3 two hundred 5 thousand miles...works awesome, mine is a daily driver and I haven't unplugged the module since I put it in..hope this helps.
@@MatthewSmith03still has the DOD/DFM lifters which are known to collapse, to do a true delete needs old 5.3 cam and lifters. Your buddy just got lucky
@countryboy6627 guess he did I knw there is a right way was just pointing out that what ever he did worked I traded truck off to gfs dad for the white c4 in my profile pic but so far its still working
@MatthewSmith03 disabling AFM/DFM does help as it tries to stop the process , but the lifters do not get oil lube at various times in the AFM/DFM process and sadly they can collapse , this is usually on high mileage vehicles , and when lifters collapse there is a huge risk the engine suffer major damage and may need a major rebuild , Replacing the cam and lifters with regular type will save an engine from that problem , it really is worth the money to do the cam and lifter swap
We ordered a 85 dollar disabler not that one but another nock off..for my 2017 Silverado..has 67000 miles on it... however has the V6 motor...why would they put a 4 cylinder mode in a V6 come on Chevy.. anyways plugged it in what a huge difference..no more in and out yes . annoying..as hell in a V6.. especially pulling a small trailer..ex. with all that said ..with disabler plugged in runs just awesome power aways there now .and the transmission shift's perfect..that was a problem when going in and out of 4 cylinder mode..tranny slamming into gear when it went from 4 cylinder to 6 cylinder..not anymore..the truck performance is great with the unit plugged in..acts more like it should like a older model pick up..ok .love it ..happy with the out come..as for gas mileage the dash is saying 22 mpg..so the ones questioning this it works very well..we do unplug the unit if we dont drive the truck for a few days just in case of battery draw..
I've had mine close to a year now, and it works great. I've also let the truck sit for as much as 3 or 4 weeks without driving, and it hasn't killed the battery. This is a 2013 Silverado.
@bigreesetv I haven't driven it very far, but, still running just fine! I believe it's still on 249,000 +, I haven't checked it in about three weeks. The thing works!
Idk where you have been getting tuning prices but if people I do delete tunes for $250 if I come to you or $200 if they bring it to me on a GEN4 $350 or $300 on a GEN5 and I do a full delete tune for that price so if you ever choose to do a full mechanical delete you will not need a re tune as long as you choose a stock profile camshaft you can completely remove the VLOM plate and you will have no check engine light these little things will throw check engine lights if you do a true delete
For those of you that don't want to or can't spend the money to buy one of these, there is a trick. I don't know if it works for the 8 speed trucks, but for the six speed and ten speed trucks, if you put your truck in Manual, and select the second highest gear (5 or 9), it will keep your truck in V8 mode the whole time you're driving. I do this in my 2016, and my buddy does it in his 2021 Silverado 1500. I still am going to buy one of these, but it's a free trick for anyone wanting to try it out!
Buy the kit from Texas Speed and do the real delete, this is nothing more than disabling it. This is a hardware problem not a software problem. Would be a good video for the channel too. Im in the middle of deleting mine right now and i know if i can do it you can, youve done more to your trucks than i have.
@@1Planenut75 Look it up, they have definitely failed with those little disablers. Only way to be 100% sure is to swap the cam for a non-DOD cam, put in ls7 lifters and block the afm towers. Then get it tuned out of the ecm.
Bought a range product from American trucks website, the box had scotch tape on it raising my suspicions. Plugged it in thought it was working one day I was checking oil life and found out it wasn’t.🤬 Luckily I still had the boxes, because the return process doesn’t favor the customer. Went to buy one directly from Range @ 230 bucks but before that found this video. Just plugged in the Amazon special today and worked flawlessly! 👍 thanks China 🇨🇳 😅
@@shanem4703 No sir. I still believe it was a great buy. Only thing to watch out for that I’ll say is the transmission temp. Go ahead and pick up the dynamic thermostat bypass. Extremely simple install. It will drop your transmission temps 40-60 degrees, and save you thousands of dollars.
@@johnadams3053 I'll certainly look into that as well then. Thank you for the suggestion. Newest I've ever owned in all my decades until now is a '92 model. So all these newer ones are out of my knowledge range.
@@shanem4703 It’s a superior solutions product. I believe the part number is STL010. It’ll make a huge difference. I already lost one transmission a few years back before I knew about this. Spend $40 now and save $5k later lol. GM really screwed us all with this.
Why did GM not use the 4.3L (262 CID) in the PRO 1500 SWB and LWB trucks? I purchased a 1986 C-10 (1500) LWB with the 4.3L (262 CID) with the only option, a 35-gallon aux tank. I was able to drive 1,100 HWY miles between fill-ups. I've been watching RU-vid/reading posts of mechanics stating reoccurring problems with GM's power plants 2.7L (165 CID), 5.3L (323 CID), and 6.2L (403 CID). There are only two solid GM engines, the 4.3L (262 CID) and 6.6L (403 CID). My first used truck was a 1963 I6 270 CID (4.4L) with a 4-speed stick shift LWB that I bought from the original order in 1982. Additionally, I owned a 1988 Chevy S-10 2.5L (153 CID) 2WD SWB. So, until GM gets their act together, I'm considering GMC SIERRA 2500 HD CAB) 6.6L (403 CID) SLE 2WD LWB or Savana 3500 Extended Passenger Van 6.6L (403 CID). The main reasons are: the 6.6L (403 CID) is old-school tech, meaning no auto start-stop; dynamic cylinder deactivation; and either can tow 10,000 lbs trailers. The Savana has a slight edge over the Sierra and carries family members and two Large DOG crates. As a Senior, I require a vehicle with safety features to assist me in driving on blacktop roads in Georgia. So, is it possible to reprogram the AFM/DFM in later Sierra/Silverado trucks to stay in V8 mode all the time?
@nickwebb9937 from my experience it's just luck of the draw with these trucks, I have 100k on mine with no issue however I have a buddy who had to replace his engine 20k in
Yes! 4 went bad, replaced all on passenger side, then 6 went bad. Come to find out all replaced were the wrong parts. When you remove see if the AFM lifters spring rotates. If so make sure the new 1s do as well.
I got one of these from Amazon. Not this particular one but a $50 one. I have a 2019 with the 8 speed and DFM and it works great. None of these AFM modules on Amazon say they work on trucks above the 2018 model year. Most do state it will not work with 10 speed transmissions.
I just swap out the lifters and cam because of GMC failure to build a motor without future costly repairs. The process to buy the kit and installing the kit was thousands of dollars.. I did notice the after the replacement of lifters and cam, my Chevy 2017 Silverado runs a lot better plus I brought this plug as well so the computer can recognize the changes from the motor to the computer system..
Check for the sensor on the rear just above the shock on top of the frame. It is very easy to knock unloose during install of rear shocks ( due to blind spot) click back together and it should get rid of your dash lights.
Just ordered one, been wanting to do away with the afm for awhile. Mine doesn’t have the buttons to switch through fuel economy etc. but I can definitely feel it when it goes into v4 and throttle response is ass until you drop a gear.
What if I do a dod afm delete like non afm lifters pushrods and non afm cam basically regular afm delete but without tune would this work rather than just tuning it give me advice up in the comments it’s 5.3 gen 4 08 Sierra
I just ordered a range last week while also just buying a 2015 Silverado with the 5.3 the method I found in the mean time was to put the truck in manual and while still at a stop select gear 5 and the truck will still auto shift and all but only goes up to 5th gear and never goes into v4 mode
Reading your comment, I do the same in my 14 Silverado with the 5.3 v8. Nice not having it constant switch back and forth in standard D. Never had any problems, just wondering if you have? Thanks
How about on the highway ? Keeping it in 5th gear may not be good. Tranny may get warmer n that's not good since the tranny may be the weak link of this truck. I have the 2014 gmc with a 5.3 and do the same thing right now but usually don't go much above 50mph. Highway in regular drive mode. Gonna get one of the disablers but not sure about the China cheapos. Not a very lucky person. I've already have a lifter collapse and a bent push rod.
@@MyMoe9 - I have 2011 LTZ, 5.3, 85K KMS. I used the 5th gear thing for the last couple years before just recently buying the Range. Other than higher RPM at HWY speeds, no issues, as long as the trans cooler does its job. I saw no real difference in trans temps. That said, I finally had had enough of not having 6th gear and the pain of manually setting to 5th every time I drove. Should have bough the Range years ago, so happy with the way my truck runs, now it's V8 healthy, not V4 anemic! Truck has 3.42 diff so milage is still very good, no real big difference. Certainly better milage than being in 5th all the time.
@@irishkelly654 just got a range week or so ago. Have it in right now. Working ok I think. Wish there was a good way to tell if it's actually doing what its supposed to do. Couldn't see any lights at first, very dim. Went out the other night after dark and did see lights on it then. Heading back to Maine from Tennessee in a couple wks. See how it goes. Thanks for your reply.
Been reading through the comments. Have a 22 1500 under warranty still. Sounds like I should do the ob plug in until my warranty runs out then do full delete kit? I assume full dod delete kit will void warranty. Correct me if I’m wrong. Thanks!
@@GLOCKCOPG23 this is the full process you have to get it tuned by someone after but anyone can do the cam and lifter swap its easy just take your time and read all the documentation
What is really sickening is gm or any manufacturer putting this crap in 70k vehicles.. i get the epa is pushing this garbage but still maddening.. guess I'll by a v6 ford or toyota.. pretty bad from gm retiree
: Just ordered one today for my 2010 Avalanche LT i just bought, been having the same issues since i drove it off the lot. Didn’t know if it was normal till i looked the problem up on RU-vid. Can’t wait to get it…Good video & Thanks
Man I'm so happy I subscribed for the tundra content a while ago and now having bought a Silverado and wanting the AFM delete, I was wondering if this was a viable option over the range! Thanks for the video!!
woah a tune runs for 500 out there. Thats pricey especially if its a street tune. They street tune trucks in cali for 200. intersting to see prices vary
@@Southized I’m in Houston, there’s still no tune with HP tuners that exists for 200 dollars…emailing a off the shelf file isn’t a tune so the guy talking bout tunes in Cali for trucks for 200 is full of BS
Hey boss, I just got the same one and my curiosity is that there’s four LED lights on the front but when I’m driving, there’s only three how many of your lights are lit up when you’re driving?
If you watch closely, he has a shot of it working in the white truck and it did look like the 2 on the far left and the farthest one on the right were on. Look at 3:50ish mark. Hope this helps...
@@lmfscrew there is a sensor in the back on top of the frame by where that hidden top bolt to shocks was. You may have knocked it unloose. Click it back together on both sides should get rid of your Christmas tree 🎄
Me, personally, not all the time and not on the HWY. However, every now and again I like to use it in the city, I like the higher RPM per gear before shifting, feels like it's a sports car, LOL.
How did you come to that conclusion? Some facts would likely be a good thing to interject with such a bold comment? Or are you a hater, simply spewing crap out your a$$?
My husband and I just traded in both of our Suburbans last weekend. They both have the 5.3L engines. His was a 2016 with 115k miles, and mine a 2018 with 86k miles. None of them had the engine failure. We were very proactive to replace the oil every 3k miles with Mobile One Full Synthetic oil. The 2016 tranny failed a little over 50k miles, we replaced it with a new Chevy tranny at our expense.
@@haydenmclendon9968 I haven't bought one yet. I'm merely asking what would your opinion be (since you're a user) on using one long term on a Silverado to disable the afm. If anything might happen to the vehicle if I were to use one long term (months/years).
@@Bryant234 not the afm being disabled I’m talking about making the truck lowered definitely disable / dod delete that it is the worst invention ever what it does is it will randomly make you truck start to run on 3 cylinders as a way to save on fuel which is just a no because you will loss power more prone to tear , uses more oil all just to save a little on fuel
I’d never plug some cheap Chinese programmer into my $45k Chevy!! Iv here to many stories where people have used these Amazon programmers and screwed up or burned out there ECMs or used there remote starts and the throttle pegged and blew up there engine!! Taking a big chance with that thing man!!
