Greetings RU-vid! Hit the subscribe button and join me on an insane journey from the UK to the Sahara desert. 5000 miles in eleven days... what could possibly go wrong?! Today's episode sees me setting off from home and striking out towards the African continent. Historically, when crossing the country, France has always punished me in terms of weather... will today be the exception that breaks the rule? Only one way to find out!

Ive always gone via Eurotunnel its not that expensive to do France -(much more expensive by car) - sanef do a website that shows you the cost of the whole route - and meh to boats rough seas and feeling ill for 36 hours. Dont know why so many British go via Paris though - if Im going South I go via Rouen and A28 - utterly empty at all times even August and then A10 - its a cheaper motorway as well - Paris Lyons is the most expensive 👍
@TwoWheeledDreamer
@TwoWheeledDreamer 6 месяцев назад
I always prefer the tunnel and then riding - I get seasick looking at the ripples on a puddle! Thanks for the heads up re the Sanef website; that’s very useful! That was my first time going via Paris - I thought I’d try something different this time… one thing I always find constant regardless of my route is that I always get rained on in France! 😂 One day, time permitting I’d like to cross the country away from the motorways… Thanks for watching and commenting 😊

I really enjoyed your series in Ireland along the Wild Atlantic Way.( Bet you wish you had similar weather!!!) Looking forward to the rest of this series though I'd doubt the scenery will come even close to the WAW ;-) (By the way, those moped riders in France are crazy - the last guy must have a death wish!!!!!). :-O

Hi Steve great video as always it’s a route I’m looking to do also but got some others to do first did Switzerland this yr and next will be the TET uk and neatherlands , Steve could you give us an idea of insurance and breakdown cover you used for Africa / Morocco or recommended ones would be great to know Thanks for sharing 👌 Steven
@TwoWheeledDreamer
@TwoWheeledDreamer 6 месяцев назад
Hi Steven, thank you so much. I’m heading to Switzerland next year so great minds think alike! The TET will be epic - be sure to let me know how that pans out. I’m insured with Bennett’s and their cover doesn’t include Morocco (I don’t think many do). If you can’t provide proof of insurance at customs whilst they register your bike (a sort of temporary import I believe), you have to buy insurance there which is available at the port. I think it’s available for either five or ten days (or longer). I purchased 10 days and it cost me almost £50. As for breakdown cover, I have RAC cover for Europe but it was a case of fingers crossed whilst in Africa… I carry tools with me and puncture repair kits but I would be seriously scratching my head if things go really wrong… Thanks for watching and commenting 😊

We rode that Paris section around 5am last August. The underpass sections were warm and muggy with loads of fast scooters and motorbikes weaving in and out. We just took it steady. later that day it got up to 49 degrees, it was hard going to our stop at Moto Camping Dordogne where we arrived at 5pm. Looking forward to the next episode.

What made you choose the tunnel to Calais? A ferry from Portsmouth to Spain costs about the same and is way less stressful. I actually looked at biking to Spain through France and the numbers just don't add up. I'm pretty soure Normandy Ferries have come to the same conclusion. All the best for the rest of your adventure.

Hi Shaun, I went tunnel due to the sailing days not working with the small window of time I had - I think it sailed on a Tuesday and I just couldn’t make it work. I also get extremely seasick to the point of being a bit pathetic!! 🤢 Thanks for watching and commenting 😊

Stumbled across the vlog. Look forward to the rest. I don’t know how you can do continual 11 hour days on the bike. I did two at start of my last tour and messed me up for rest of trip, I was so uncomfortable on the bike. Maybe it’s just me!

Hi there! Welcome, so glad you are enjoying the episodes! I always tend to end up doing those sort of hours; I think it's because I try to cram so much in to the time I have for each trip... it's the 18 hour days that are a bit brutal! As the trip progresses, the long hours in the saddle most definitely start to take their toll. Thank you so much for watching!🙂

I gave you a like only for starting your journey, anyone that knows me knows tho' that I'm not at all a fan any Dover area crossing or of F. So I'll join you again on your tour when you cross into Spain. Personnally I would only plan to go from Portsmouth-> Santander.Safe ride thro' F.
