Greetings RU-vid! Hit that subscribe button and join me as I disembark the ferry at Tanger Med and make my way to the beautiful blue city of Chefchaouen. My tech is failing and there's a good chance of me getting and staying lost.... oh yes, and it's also an 18-hour riding day... the challenge is on!

Technology...Huh?? Can't beat the paper maps!!! I always write the address of the place I am trying to find so I can show people when asking directions (handy if you dont speak the language). After watching this series so far, I am seriously thinking of getting a tank bag for my GSA 1250 - very handy for documents at ports etc and I'll probably get one with a waterproof paper map holder too. I use a dual SIM phone too so if data on one SIM fails I have the other as back-up (or insert a local SIM). Great series so far - shows the human side of travelling by bike - the realistic parts where you get lost, panic a little, don't know whether or not to trust locals, things go wrong, technology lets you down etc. etc.

I have a Tank Bag for my 1250 GS, never fancied one until I got one, now I wouldn't be without it.

For the next trip I'm going to ensure I have decent paper maps and I will be writing it all out too. I used to manage years ago. A tank bag is also something I will consider, especially for getting the phone out of the rain (I like the sound of a dual sim phone - I didn't know they were a thing)... I'm really glad you are enjoying the videos; I try to show it all and there are many warts to be shown! The deeper into Morocco I go and the farther south, it starts to take on a whole new level!

Great video's dude. I've done 750 miles in a day on my k1600. To do 2 days continuously i would allowed another day to get to your destination. Look forward to your next episode. Safe riding dude.👍

Thank you my friend, I was on such a tight schedule and given the distances I wanted to cover, I knew it would have to bite the bullet and have a succession of very long days. Some were longer than others but all were pretty intense for the duration of the trip. It all added to the challenge! Thanks for watching 🙂

Great info in here. From the ferry, customs in Morocco to getting insurance and the anxiety of going that way where kids were playing football feeling would never find where staying. I’d love to try that but worry about non adventure bike in case too many off road tracks run into and to be honest safety fears but so far looks good
@TwoWheeledDreamer

So glad you are finding some useful info in the videos. I don't think having a non-adventure bike would cause any problems in Morocco - their road infrastructure is amazing; it's just if you were to ride away from the beaten track a bit that it might get interesting. Thanks for watching!

Phew I bet your were glad when that day came to an end! I felt tired just watching your struggles and I'm sure most bike travellers have had similar at some time where the weather, times, distances and technology all conspire against you. Good on you for hanging in there and for the locals being so helpful. Tomorrows another day, can't wait for the video 👍

Ouch ............ that was painful to watch you looking for your accommodation! When booking somewhere to stay I always follow a few simple guidelines; where EXACTLY is it, does it have parking and will it be easy to find. Often best to pay a bit more to achieve all three especially on your first day in a new country. Still I have to admire your apparent sense of calm and adventure after such a long day. Perhaps you were almost too tired to care!

Will do this trip in 2025 so good to know a thing or two about going there. However, I don´t plan my trips except that I do extensive research about where to stay. Primarily hotels which are easy to find and with a garage or a safe place to park my bike. Otherwise it´s a no-go oh and I do search for alternatives to my favourite hotel, just in case. Stay safe.

Hi there, that sounds like a really good way of approaching a trip. My planning is always fairly vague and then it unfolds as the trip progresses, some times it adds to the stress and some times it makes for some pleasant surprises! 😂 thank you so much for watching and safe travels for you too 😊

Enjoying the journey with you Yep I got stung with 3 too It’s strange it’s roaming upto 12gb I was told , then had to pay £5 a day ! That was Europe , I’ve done some research and easier buying a SIM card there works out cheaper . Keep up the good work and looking forward to the next instalments 👍

Hi there, yes, I definitely think will get local sims next time. I spent £70 on roaming passports that wouldn't work and still went past the data allowance! You live and learn... Thanks for watching, I'm so glad you are enjoying the videos 🙂

I like the raw reality of this showing many of the challenges. Watching you try to find your accommodation was agonising, I could feel your pain. How was it for fuel ⛽️ stops and meals during the day. Bottled water a must I expect? I am looking forward to the next one! 😊
@TwoWheeledDreamer
@TwoWheeledDreamer 6 месяцев назад
Those hotels and AirBnBs can be pretty elusive at times! There were plenty of fuel stations and it was priced better than the UK (although surprisingly expensive compared to other costs like food etc.). Meals were incredibly good value and I had plenty of bottled water with me at all times (this was to prove extremely important when I eventually make it to the desert!). Thanks for watching 🙂

I’m surprised that the sat nav didn’t work as it runs off of satellite? Thank god you found your room..
@TwoWheeledDreamer
@TwoWheeledDreamer 6 месяцев назад
The sat nav on the phone was incredibly frustrating as I paid a fortune for an All The World roaming pass which didn't work and the BMW sat nav remained connected at all times but either couldn't find addresses (in Europe) or didn't have Moroccan maps on it... Next, extremely detailed paper maps will be the way forward!

Hi there, with hindsight I probably should have done that... They told me there was nearby on-street parking (not so nearby!) - perhaps it was lost in translation. It's a learning curve and this trip is going to provide many lessons! Thanks for watching 🙂

I was surprised you need to buy insurance. My Spanish bike insurance covers me for Morocco on my normal Green Card (that is no longer green). My Spanish phone worked for Google maps, but would make the phone overheat and die. So mostly we used a paper map (Last trip 2019). On a previous trip I bought the TomTom map for my then current Sat Nav, but the map was of limited use. I believe they have now improved their maps. Don't worry about changing too much money. If you have any left over, save it for next time. You will return! My next trip is planned for April. When you can't find a place, don't be afraid to ask directions. One time my old TomTom got completely lost in Marakesh. A man lead us out of the maize on his bicycle, then gave good directions for the last part of the journey. My old BMW K75 (1988) doesn't get so much interest in Morocco as your GS! Well done with your first day in Morocco!

Hi Neale, thank you! It is a huge learning curve but an experience of a lifetime I am savouring. Next time (and yes, there definitely will be a next time) I will make sure I have a better sat nav and also very detailed papers maps too - I used to manage just fine before becoming so reliant on technology! I like the sound of your old K75! Thanks so much for watching 🙂

@TwoWheeledDreamer
@TwoWheeledDreamer 4 месяца назад
When you disembark the ferry the first place you’ll ride round to is customs (you have to pass through it) and there you have to show your V5 which must be the original and not a copy. The customs official will then return it to you along with the white card/doc

Personally I would have used a hotel rather than ABnB. I would imagine a hotel is easier to find with the possibility that the bike is closer or even secured in a carpark, maybe WiFi for vloggers. I don't know what the price difference is but would pay for peace of mind. For the long motorway work, I'm still confused why you need the phone running next to a GPS unit. A tank bag with important documents that you can get to and take with you easily, instead of getting on and off to the top box. I have to ask, how square is the rear tyre? I hope the rest of the trip goes well.
@TwoWheeledDreamer
@TwoWheeledDreamer 6 месяцев назад
Hi Frank, thanks for your comment. With hindsight a hotel may haver been better but I have equal or even worse struggles with hotels that I booked farther into the trip. The tyres held up really well given the large motorway slogs I put them through and as I head farther south and deeper into Morocco I manage to round them off again! I ran the phone and well as the Nav 6 because it has been playing up in a big way recently and my trust levels with it were at about zero. To be fair, it behaved itself (even though it struggles to locate particular addresses). And yes, a tank bag is definitely the way forward! Thank you so much for watching 🙂
