Time for one of our special videos: Honda CRF1100L Africa Twin vs. Yamaha Tenere 700 vs. BMW F850GS. Some of the most wanted adv bikes on the market. We fitted all of them with knobby tires and took them out for a ride, on street and off-road, to see which one is the best.

Hard core adventure. Getting stuck and taking risks off-road was my in my job description for 13 years of geophysics minerals exploration, so doing this kind of hard core riding just isn’t what I would consider fun. I wish that I would have always had coworkers like you that never give up and meet every challenge with good humor. Every video you make has me looking forward to the day that I visit Romania.

I've been fortunate to own all of these bikes! H Well, in honesty, an F800GSA 2014, AT 2016 and T700 2021. They've got some good points here, but if you plan on riding trails more than roads, there's no question the T700 is better. There are different aspects to each bike, bit as for bar position on the T7, I had the same issue with fatigue, but all it took to resolve was rolling the bars forward slightly, issue is history. The T700 is forgiving, ploughs through everything and is light enough to pick up with luggage on, these are all the elements of adventure riding. If you want more power and don't ride trails so much, the AT1000 is the one

I own a Tenere 700 and since a month also a 2021 AT AS DCT......i love my Tenere very much. Less comfort but it does everything very well. Trail riding is very nice. It also likes the twisties and rev it very hard. You can throw it hard into the corners. Very very good bike for that money. Always put a smile on my face. I do not have much mileage on my Africa twin jet....i have to explore this one a little bit more. I bought it for more comfort road use. It is a beast!! Safe happy riding everybody!!

I just bought the new standard Africa Twin 2021 with no DCT. I did the test drive of both the Africa twin and the Tenere, but I liked the Africa Twin much more: lower seat height, smoother and more powerful engine and more eletronics for less than a difference of 4000€. The standard Africa Twin is not that much heavier than the Tenere, the only reason people should look into the Tenere is the price. The Tenere for the european market is made in France while the Africa Twin is made always in Japan.

The price of the tenere in north macedonia is around 11-12k euros, the standard africa twin starts from 13k.. the bmw f850gs also starts from around 13k. I think you should be loco not to buy the AT 😀

Last year I’ve tried ATAS manual with EERA and base model with DCT both with many extra bells and whistles. Frankly, I was disapointed in both. ATAS is to wide between the knees, bulky and top heavy. DCT makes engine response kind of blunt. Neither of 4 shifting modes suited me well and padles for manual shifhting weren’t positioned well for my hand. Reading all the positive reviews I gave it second chance two weeks ago… This time basic model in this new tricolore paint and with manual transmision. Only accesory was quickshifter and crash bars. And… it was a blast! Manual with quickshifter is the best transmision for me. It´s crisp and fast and for the offroad you still have clutch control. Every additional kilo of weight is affecting handling in a big way. In this case less is sometimes more applies. For me the best Africa is base model with just heated grips, quickshifter, engine crash bars and barkbusters. Nothing more besides wish for tubeless rims. As for the F850GS. It isn’t a bad bike, but I didn’t like whole front end. Steering geometry is weird. Front suspension setting didn’t fit me well and it’s unadjustable. Front brake doesn’t match the performance of the rest of the bike.
@DerpEye
@DerpEye 3 года назад
It all depends on what you want from the bike. I own the AT 1000, and i would like the DCT version. But i use it 95% of the time on the road. If i were to use the bike off road, i would've bought the Tenere, hands down.

Looks like a pretty serious off-road ride for a new rider on a mid-size bike. When picking up a bike it’s best to put your back to it and lift with your legs, this even works on 900lbs Harley Touring Bikes. I’m currently riding a 2021 T-7 and I Love It. I agree the handlebars need changing on the bike, something with slightly more rise and sweep. Ride On.

I´ve owned a F 850 GS and used it mainly for Enduro/ off-road-travel purposes. I´m a offroad beginner, so it was more like gravel roads and a bit of aTET...Last year I´ve ridden the Hard Alpi Tour with the 850 and it was not fun. It felt heavy, top heavy and the suspension wasn´t there...too soft, not progressive and -of course- not adjustable. After lifting it up 3 times, you are hammered...I´m a sporty guy but this was just brutal. I did some enduro classes with R 1200/ R 1250 Gs and they are wayyyy easier to ride because of the boxer engine. Unfortunately the price is wayyyy higher on these bikes. If i´ll buy a big GS, it has to be the sport suspension and the TFT or a adventure with TFT.... My budget says still no, so I sold the 850 and bought a 701 with Rally Kit (slightly used) and still got money left to go crazy on tires and equippment. ;) cheers

For me,give me the Ténéré 700 any time over those bikes. It's an amazing bike that can handle just about anything that comes your way. But the biggest selling part for me is the lower weight of 452 lbs, compared to the 503 lbs of the very basic Africa Twin with no accessories. I can add crash bars plus 30-40 lbs of gear and just be breaking into the AT weight territory. Once you hit deep sand or mud, you'll be happy you have a lighter bike. Another huge plus of the T7 is it's bare bone minimum electronics. The more junk you out in a bike, the more that can brake down. Good luck finding a mechanic in the middle if a third world country who has the specialized tools and know how needed to troubleshoot and fix such sophisticated electronics hungry bikes. And I hope you have the deep pockets needed to replace those electronics if they break down. I saw a video of a guy who owns a KTM and had to replace the some electronic parts and he had to cough up 5,200 dollars to replace the panel and hardness. Perhaps more and more people are relying on electronics, such as traction control, to cover for their lack of skills. While the T7 is so good with it's basic suspension that it makes you think that your skills are better than they really are. Yes it is that good! Specially for a bike without a computer thinking for you and saving your ass.

same for me, I only had to replace springs in my T7 with uprated ones as they were a bit too soft for my size and riding style but otherwise, I love the bike - offroad non of the other two come even close - I would buy AT over T7 if I planned more road trips or with passenger

It ’s a wonderful view. It can be said that the new price of BMW is cheap in Japan. The reason is that BMW is relative to the fact that car inspection and maintenance costs at dealers, repair costs and even tire replacement are very expensive. It is also important to calculate the cost when riding hard for a long time.

Thanks for clearly making the extra mile and effort for the review. Nice review. The trip would have been so much easier with 400cc and 100kg lighter enduro bike. So that's the best class of bikes for off road (light weight enduros 300-500cc). You can ride easily few hundred km's with them on tarmac, so I little bit question this whole class of bikes you reviewed in this video. For road trip other kind of bikes rule.

Absolutely. I've had bikes like these before but I've downsized. Every 30 seconds in this video I was thinking "that would be such a breeze on my Honda 250 Rally" (with 900 Euro spent on the suspension). Even on those twisty tarmac roads it wouldn't fall far enough behind to outweigh the vastly better experience off-road. On a motorway, or with a passenger, for 800 km, sure one of these bikes every time, but anywhere the traffic is doing 110 km/h or less I'd be right there on the 250. And it's 48 kg lighter than the T7.

Other than having a 40% bigger engine and better suspension and electronics, is it really worth spending 5,000 euros on Africa Twin over Tenere?

Nice review & beautiful country but hopefully those bugs dont bite. if you have the legs for it ( I am 6'1 with 36'' inseam) the Honda tall seat on the AT is a lot more comfortable than stock IMO, it is shaped better so it dont slide you into the gas tank so much. So how does that windshield work? I have the stock with MRA Xscreen on it but on open road speed I need a little taller & maybe wider

what if we compare Tenere World Raid with Tuareg ?? what suspension is greater then ????

Good video, bit hard to understand you guys at times, but still enjoyed the video, glad you took the time to put it all together. For me, if I was riding anything like that I wouldn't buy any of those bikes, I'll stick to something more like my beta xtrainer 300. I want a adventure bike, but don't have plans on ever going quite that extreme, hopefully. Lol

Beautiful video as always, 👍 and beautiful Romania created a place for such tests😜👍 I think I would opt for Africa Twin DCT but 2019 Model💪🏍👍 and Yamaha Tenere 👀👍 Greetings
