I think this song is called Mineon Ba. I have the album........There Was a Time by African Classical Music Ensemble......highly recommended. This song sounds a little different on the album, sung by Kassemade Diabate.

Very beautiful. I'll certainly be exploring this musical culture in more depth. It seems I've yet to be disappointed with any music I've heard from Africa. Criminally underrepresented in the US.

TREMENDOUS. First 20 seconds in and my years of musical training go out the door. I wish I hadn't been trained since BEFORE birth on western intonations. This music is for God. No one will ever convince me otherwise: music was first made in Africa. Making music is part of what makes us human, and it's been going on longest in Africa. Prove me wrong.

Music was not first made in Africa dude. Lol. Here’s a snippet from Wikipedia. Doesn’t mention Africa sorry: The music of prehistoric cultures is first firmly dated to c. 40,000 BP of the Upper Paleolithic by evidence of bone flutes, though it remains unclear whether or not the actual origins lie in the earlier Middle Paleolithic period (300,000 to 50,000 BP). There is little known about prehistoric music, with traces mainly limited to some simple flutes and percussion instruments. However, such evidence indicates that music existed to some extent in prehistoric societies such as the Xia dynasty and the Indus Valley civilisation. Upon the development of writing, the music of literate civilizations-ancient music-was present in the major Chinese, Egyptian, Greek, Indian, Persian, Mesopotamian, and Middle Eastern societies.

Magnifique...je recommande d'aller écouter l'instrumental de Mamadou Diabaté "Tunga". Ce chant évoque l'histoire de Sya, jeune femme qui doit être sacrifiée au Sâba (grand serpent)...Interprétation libre de Sona Jobarteh de "Miniyamba" (ici écrit Mineon Ba), chant traditionnel mandingue. Merci pour les frissons!
