Is it not interesting how in the West African music was often depicted as "wild, raucous and uncivilised. Then however, this stately, delicate and beautiful music is what Africans are really doing.
West Africans (not broaden our considerations too widely... :) made music in made modes, traditions and manners, in differing contexts, with divergent social and aesthetic aims, to distinct artistic ends... and still do.... What does, i concur, strike one is that in a particular, external, discourse, for a time, that diversity and richness seems interestedly ignored, unexamined and denied.
I'm taking out of this world with the exquisite genius of this song. I never could imagine such a silent spring flowing through Africa. The griots of this Mandingo country are not just story tellers, they are also capable of opening the firmaments for heaven to be felt on earth. I'm already spent.
I have a Toumani Diabaté song on my playlist for helping me calm down on plane rides. Maybe I need to consider just making the entire playlist kora music 😅
Unbelievably beautiful. it is the sound of air and water, love, friendship, togetherness, the sound of heat on a hot wind, and of pure mind, and joy and peace and sweet hot delight!
Back in the day, Mansa Musa had more gold than the whole of Europe combined. Instead of using it to wage war and conquer as the European kings were doing, he spent it improving the lives of his people. I wish modern African rulers would follow in his footsteps
When I was young I had fluent French and, living in New York, heard West African poets read. One of my great regrets is that I never learned to dance the highlife. By sheer chance I've found this recording and I feel gloriously welcomed back to my youth.
@@afifrench9829 It is a form of dance and of the music accompanying it, blending Western and African instruments and musical forms. Very popular when I was learning about Africa, in the 1950s, and still popular in the African diaspora today, with ever-changing forms.
Bravissimo!
Everytime I need to, I come hear to play this amazing music from my ancestors 💕🌷🌿🤲🏾☀️ And I want to cry, smile and dance all together. This music speaks to me deeply inside.
I totally agree! Having ancestry from Mali is beautiful. Enslaved Bambara, Mandinka, and Fula from Mali and Guinea made up almost 1/3 of all the enslaved African Americans. It’s a big part of our lineage and I’m working hard to reconnect with it 💙☺️🤗
Incredible music! I feel so relaxed and the same time want to dance and clap hands when listening to this! Thank you for giving so much joy! God bless!
I swear if you swapped the kora to a guitar the first title would sound like Congolese rumba precisely Koffi olomide tchatcho style. We are indeed 1 us Africans same food different spices
When one hears "Classical music" The first thing that comes to mind are the works long passed European composers. While this isn't bad by any means, I'd love to hear more of classical music produces from people in other continents.
On what basis have you decided this? It's fine to be an optimist, but becoming a better person requires more than listening to music. A world that "seems like" a better place is only so within your mind. I think more reflection and some work may be required to achieve your goals.
How do you do? I'm glad to meet you. I'm South Korean and I heard this music 5minutes ago. this music is very beautiful. this music is a real art. thank you for your introduction about this music, sir.

This is not about a style of music. This is beauty, this is an art in its deepest meaning. This travels everywhere and penetrates the soul. Simply wonderful! Thank you so much.
Today Addis Ababa is decorated with all African countries flags to welcome all African heads of states, brothers and sisters for the AU summit this music definitely ads color to it
The music is B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L in the words purest form. The comments here seem to come from beautiful people as well. I am writing out of Copenhagen. Anyone who listens to this music is a friend I have not yet met. Drop me a comment if you are around. Coffee is on me ❤
@dand5695 I am far away in Cameroon. Same taste as yours. So, please send the coffee you promised. By post, and I’ll gladly drink to your health and wellbeing.
Mr. Diabaté, your Music is wonderful. And what a gift to the world. I was travelling on a plane across the Atlantic, over the Azores archipelago and was listening to this exact theme, which captured the immense beauty of the Islands exquisite nature. Thank you for the Art you are sharing with us, mere spectators delighted by the unique sounds of the Kora. From Uruguay with Love and Appreciation to Mali and West Africa. 🇺🇾🌍🙏❤️
I have just found this musician. And the first thing you realise is he is at the top of his game....fabulous. ! The only shame is there is no effort to the videos.
We see the famous Qora, Kora painted on the pyramids yet can't see the kora all across the African continent. The basis of African classical music. Open your eyes.
Is it just me, or is there the ghost of South American harp music in the complexity of the picking, the dissonance of some chords, the structure of the melodies and subtly shifting rhythms? R (Australia)
I was listening to this in the middle of truly nowhere 100 k"s from Port Elizabeth - 1st day of 2006. Freezing! Laughing my happy head off! Living and loving life on a motorbike 😂
