Small pond idea 2 plastic shoe boxes from dollar tree One to hold the place , dirt shape One to slip out and clean (I spray painted the back of this one a camo theme) for looks ) A small submersible filter , or turtle pond type Some guppies My skinks love it

Beautiful skink and enclosure but switch to a digital thermometer and hygrometer you can get a digital thermometer hygrometer for 6 bucks and they're pretty accurate.

I wouldn't keep an adult fire skink in anything less than a 40 gallon. I have mine in a 36x18x18 right now and its only about 9 inchs long right now. With fire skinks getting up to 14-15 inchs long I think I try to get one that is at least 36x 24x18. I'd want it to be able to move down the side of the and have more than just 3-4 inchs.

I made this video a few years ago when the only information on their care said a minimum for them was a 20 gal. I defiently wouldn't reccomend that now. Im glad I gave him a bigger tank, he really enjoys it

@@jeferforever It's still not the easiest to find good information on them. Things are always changing with reptiles. Used to be acceptable to feed crested geckos baby food. Any advice for fire skinks that I wont find on a care guide?

I have a bio active set up and I was wondering how often do you change the substrate?

With a proper bioactive set up with isopods and springtails and live plants, you shouldn't have to change out the substrate.

every couples of days id take him out to get comfortable with my presence. he probably the least tamed fire skink ive me, but once he knows im not going to hurt him he calms down

@@ianalimario7858 i got him from a petco, so i think he is wild caught. captive bred reptiles tend to be easier to tame, and hes always been a challenge
