The drum she's playing is a traditional Irish frame drum called a bodhran (pronunciation varies a little, but "Bow" as in rhymes with "How"..."-ron"... Bow-ron... It's close enough, and I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong. I used to teach bodhran ! They're playing something close to Irish traditional music, and this rhythm is a jig... a 6/8 rhythm. First time hearing this tune from them and it's good. Masters of this type of fusion would be bands like AfroCelts Sound System,or Moving Hearts. In fact, check out a Moving Hearts track called "The Storm".

This video is taken from Live at Lansdowne Road in Dublin (year 2000 I would say). An epic concert, both for the quality of the performance by this talented family and for the active participation of the audience. Each piece of this amazing concert could be worth your attention.

They are a family, thee sisters and a brother. Jim plays guitar, Sharon plays violin, Caroline plays drums and Andrea plays whistle and sings. The strange drum you saw is a traditional irish instrument called bodhràn

Not the best introduction choice. Same concert "Runaway" more accessible or London (2000) for their big hit "Breathless" . A better version Toss the Feathers with Mick Fleetwood. Haste to the Wedding is a very old tune - goes back to the mid-1700s at least - known to fiddlers all over the English/Irish/Scottish/etc. world, although you don't hear it much anymore. This rendition is 'way over done to my taste - but who asked me?
