Can't wait for Americas! There aren't so mich languages, so it would be better to make a big video with all America, not dividing it in South and North. Anyway, you're one of the best linguists. My family and I speak Shilha and I know about the phoenician, arabic and spanish influence in our language, but I would like to know examples of hebrew and aramaic influence because I can't see it, do you have any?
@BenLlywelyn
@BenLlywelyn 5 месяцев назад
We will need to find someone who can speak both Hebrew / Aramaic and Shilha, I would say. The point, however is these two lived with each other for nearly 2,000 years and even created Judeo-Berber Languages - it is near impossible for Hebrew and Aramaic not to have influenced Shilha.
@kunatix7033
@kunatix7033 5 месяцев назад
@@BenLlywelyn I am pretty sure Aramaic has not any influence whatsoever on shilha. Also I think Hebrew has a very little influence, most berber jews didn't speak Hebrew, only berber, so Hebrew couldn't have a lasting influence on berber. Also Jews have been here for more than 2000 years, so they stopped using Hebrew a long time ago.

So many languages (and events and places) I never even heard about! :O I spoke sometimes with a person who identified himself as "Berber" and nothing else (so, not a country name from North Africa). Also, the Arabian assault conquest from the Arabian Peninsula through the whole of North Africa, even to the Iberian Peninsula (including the desolation of an empire so iconic and ancient like Egypt) always amazed me. However, as you mentioned, this is genocide looked away, so that also makes me uneasy. And that's an entire different story altogether.

The loss of the Egyptian Language to Arabisation is a tragedy in what we have lost.
@kunatix7033
@kunatix7033 5 месяцев назад
Arabs massacred us in the 8th century but it wasn't a genocide, we massacred the Arabs too during the Great Berber Revolt, most of North Africa is populated by arabized berbers. We are all genetically berbers but the majority got arabized especially during the 20th century in Algeria and Morocco for nationalist purposes.

There are Berbers in modern Egypt and I saw in a video some time ago where one of the Egyptian Berbers stated their language is most similar to Chaois (Spelling?). It may be of interest to investigate given the distance. Also, the script you used in discussing Kel Tamasheq (Tuareg) was the Neo-Tifinagh script created by Berber Academy (Kabyle Berbers in France). Tifinagh is the original and only surviving script from Old Libyan and doesn't use vowel (circles) between consonant letters. When it does use vowels or ligatures with vowels, they are dots not circles. There are other differences as well. Visually Tifinagh and the Kel Tamasheq scripts... there are several related scripts... look mostly the same.

In Turkey this tsk meaning no its the most widespread. It definatevely comes from the oldest language, Gobleki Tepe people. I assume the Tsk click for no could be celtic as it is in Romania too, maybe Bulgaria also.( in Bulgaria they also shake heads like no, for ies wich is very confusing and same like the bosimani, the San).

A Berber language that also was lost is Guanche, the language spoken by the native Berbers of the Canary Islands who had a vibrant culture with songs dresses and Gods and who like the Egyptians had a way to mummify their dead, speakers of Guanche were massacred by the Spanish with the remainder of them becoming spanish, today the Canary Islands are just like any other Spanish region and today the Guanche language is dead

Diolch yn fawr, Ben. The Romans considered only three languages to be civilized: Latin, Greek and Punic (Carthaginian). The Egyptians considered the Libyans - there word for all the Berber peoples - to speak in a way that only made them fit for slavery. And now the Arabs have arrived with an obscure 7th century proto-Arabic from the Peninsula (now called Classical Arabic) that is wreaking linguistic genocide on Africa. Add to that the nutter American Evangelicals who are driving the languages south of the Sahel into extinction through Anglo-Christianization.

Are you focused on Greek Egyptians? Libya and Libyan are Greek derived names as is "Egyptian." The people of Kemet had many names for North Western African ethnic groups with Tamahu being a frequent one and likely most connected to one of the modern day Kel Tamasheq (Tuareg) clans. But in any case, having little to do with slavery since there was not a slave industry or at least not one comparable to the later civilizations of Greek and Rome.

@@kemetnubiakamp Great comment. I am not referring to Hellenic Egypt. I am referring to the Egypt during the Middle Kingdom and before. The Narmer Palette - c.31st century BCE - shows Narmer - the first to unify Upper and Lower Egypt - striking a Libyan with a weapon. This was millennia before Hellenic Egypt that you refer to and clearly demonstrates the Ancient Egyptians' attitudes towards Berbers..
@kemetnubiakamp
@kemetnubiakamp Месяц назад
@@radiojet1429 Combatting enemies is not about enslavement. Kemet's enemies were Libyans, Nubians, and Asiatics. There's no indication those on Narmer's are specifically Libyan. We just know various people were living in Lower Egypt and that Narmer conquered them to create one nation.

Because it is ...not even talking about long ago even just after independence Morocco Algeria and libya all started "arabization" where these governments refused to acknowledge our very existence it was illegal to teach broadcast or write in it +they literally forced Arabic only in education and propaganda to make ppl think that we don't exist The governments treated us and our language worse than the language of the former colonizers a mandatory subject as they are still a mandatory
@yodesuyo
@yodesuyo 5 месяцев назад
Arabization is pretty recent in Morocco, it only started after the french colonization because france saw that arabs are easier to rule sinc only amazigh tribes fought them to the death. So 70 years of arabization only in Morocco not centuries like many believe. Morocco defeated the omeyyads (assyrians+arabs+egyptians) in 740 and arabs never came back since then. all the so called arabs in Morocco are amazigh people victims of the Arabization process

True, National georgraphic did a DNA study n Tunisia (where historically, omeyyads stayed longer) and found that 88% of tunisians have amazigh DNA and only 4% was from the middle east. Another study in Iberia by Oxford found that 11% of Iberian DNA is Amazigh from Morocco mostly and 0% Arab, which shows that arabs are just a myth in both Morocco and Andalusia.
