How wonderful of a name is Bongos Ikwue...and the band the Groovies, even that is terrific and captures the joyful essence of the music...you can really hear the soul influence apparent in that clip...haven't seen the Fela album fronted by Sandra before, nice to see the African women step forward on this and the next album. Progress, yes some bittersweet notes on the back of that LP. Dig the reggae flavoured ones near the end, reggae was an incalculable influence in African music...cheers, left this video with a warm feeling and big smile!

Hi Doug. Happy to hear the music brough you happiness and warmth. It's part of the magic of African music. In part probably the reason why it was made it the first. I love it for that reason. You can feel the positive vibes. No need for a stage name, when your parents gave you Bongos Ikwue as a bithname :) Have a great Sunday. Cheers. /Paul

Some great sounding music. I’m always amazed at the African albums you can find. I enjoyed all the samples. Kuti is the king of the groove. It is so propulsive. I always found it interesting how Latin rhythms did make their way over into the African music scene but they were very catchy. Thanks for showing and explaining about all those great albums. You pronounced all the names correctly also!

Hi Steve! My African brother :) From what I know it was the oil business that got a mix and match of the West Indies with the West African sounds. Hahah, I knew it I would nail it with all the names ;) Have a great Sunday. Cheers. /Paul

Fela has released so many many albums in the seventies. With Sandra on vocals gives a nice twust. Her voice fits perfect to the music and the message. Cheers. /Paul
