We explore the Old World Succulent Garden at the Safari Park near San Diego. Here succulents small and large look good year-round with minimal water or care. You'll get garden ideas and design inspiration too.
Succulents from South Africa include aloes, cotyledons, crassulas, euphorbias, and ice plants. They're often preferred by succulent aficionados who'd "rather not garden around" plants with needles and treacherous tips---i.e. cacti and agaves. True, some of these are spiny too, but IMHO not as likely to rip you open.
The Old World Garden showcases species rather than cultivars, but I did find some interesting crosses. In the video, I go plant-by-plant, introducing each and mentioning its merits. I've also ID'd dozens of noteworthy ones for you on my site:
