Afrikaans & Dutch are the Same Language!  

German is not as close to Afrikaans as Dutch.

@frankmuller6834 how many south africans speak English? I also don't have access to an afrikaans language app, but I do have Zulu, German, and Dutch on duolingo. Would you recommend learning a little bit of Zulu and Dutch for a South Africa trip?

​​@@natepolsky4398 don't worry, most south africans speak perfect english. Im not sure how much learning zulu will help you as it depends where you are traveling. For example, kzn is very zulu whereas the western cape is Xhosa. And there are many other languages in the different provinces. SA has 11 official languages, with English being one of them.

Yeah and I speak United Statian it is completely different from English. Tf is you whacked in the head.

Not the same, but I speak Afrikaans, my first language, and I understand both languages.

Ons verstaan mekaar 💯 al is daar oseane tussen ons ! When I visited the Netherlands I understood perfectly and never needed a dictionary.

Taalkundig gezien is dit twee verskillende tale... Ja maar taalkundig gesien is daar ook dialekte in Nederland en Belgie wat verder weg is van Standaard Nederlands dan Afrikaans.

Nee, socio-politiek gezien zijn dit twee verschillende talen. Taalkundig staan ze veel dichter bij elkaar dan menig dialecten in Duits, Frans of Italiaans, of zelfs bepaalde Nederlandse dialecten!

@@fedoralexandersteeman6672 Maar dat is het criterium toch niet. Er zijn verschillen die het een dialect maken en verschillen die het een aparte taal maken. Hoe verschillend ze in totaal zijn is niet het onderscheid.

Dat komt omdat Fries een taal is en geen dialect. (en dat zeg ik als Groninger 😉)

I am dutch but this dont sound like german at all. This sounds like someone to learn Dutch.

We are taught German in some of our schools and in many areas. German is spoken widely in South Africa 🇿🇦 and Namibia 🇳🇦 . Most of us are bilingual as Afrikaans and English are spoken widely, and we sometimes mix them too. Other than that, South Africa has 11 official languages. ❤

I was busy om te gewriting this, want die man was gewrong and he did gesay that Afrikaans and Dutch is the sames taal and that did not make me very gehappy and it does not make a moerse saak because I am verstaaning how to gewriting and geleesing Afrikaans because my family is Afrikaans and so thereforings I can gecomment because you really should not be gegetting your broekiepies in a getwist.
