A common misconception is that Ireland doesn't have much black history...WRONG! Ireland has tons of black history! There has been a black presence in Ireland since at least the 1700s, including notable figures such as Tony Small, Rachel Baptiste and Mulatto Jack. Ireland also participated in the transatlantic slave trade, and there were numerous Irishmen in the Royal Africa Company. Several leading abolitionists also visited Ireland, including Frederick Douglas himself!
