As a former smoker I can say that no matter how awful the experience seems from the outside once started you literally no longer care, like how all the negatives of a hangover doesn't stop a drinker from drinking; however, as a former smoker I can say being able to breathe has outweighed all of that. Addiction's a hard thing to explain to someone who's never expiernced it and there's far worse than cigarettes out there, things that literally kill you if you try to stop without immediate medical care.
