I've had aft balconies on a couple cruises (not on the Odyssee!). Definitely seemed to feel more of the vibration when docking/undocking and while cruising. The balconies are great, but we did get some fine ash-type particles that were from the stacks. Also that walk to the elevator is definitely a pain when you forget something!

Aft Balcony looks amazing, I purposely choose a cabin away from elevators for 2 reasons, less footfall & after all the food that is on offer I personally walk as much as possible ☺️

Subject to nausea with motion, along with being a very light sleeper (although the view is gorgeous), I’ll choose a more midship balcony/suite. Know I’d so enjoy the additional room, not worth risking an unpleasant cruise for me. Glad you had a great time! Thanks again for a great channel!

Thanks for the cabin review. Love the storage in this cabin. The bathroom is tight. The fluffy cruisers would like you to test the toilet sitting situation. My husband watched this video and shook his head "nope" when he saw the space between the commode and the glass shower door. You and he are about the same degree of fluffy.

My hubby and I stayed in an aft balcony once ( I can't remember which ship it was), but I loved it! I spent more time out there watching the wake than on any other cruise.....simply beautiful.

Personally I’m a big fan of AFT cabins. Yes, there a little bit nosier then regular balcony cabins but I like the sound of the sea. And they are specially amazing if you do a scenic cruise!

Thanks for the tour Tony. We’re mid-ship cruisers to avoid the motion. The walk would be a plus for us to help burn off some of the cruise calories.

I've sailed in a Jr Suite on the back of the Splendour of the Seas. We loved everything about it. After leaving Bermuda to cross the Atlantic to the Azores, we hit 30 ft seas. You'd literally feel the bed fall out from beneath you. I've never slept better in my life. It's crazy, as i get carsick easily, but the sea doesn't bother me. (I was pregnant, too ... ). We always watched the sunset after dinner and one night there were whales chasing the ship. It was a once in a lifetime experience. I highly recommend aft cabins.

I’ve always avoided the aft because of engine vibration. Your walk to the elevator has reassured me I’ve made the right choice to book a cabin right near the elevators for my next three cruises.

Hello there ! My first ever comment on any of your videos ! We are in an alf facing balcony for the very first time on next year's Star Trek cruise ! Your video made the aft facing cabin look amazing ! So excited now for our new experience !

We always book the aft balcony. It is very relaxing. ❤️

I've been on an aft balcony twice. Once on MSC Poesia and once on MSC Divinia. Loved them both. Both were much larger. The Poesia was very big. The Divinia was large on the inside but really long on the balcony. It fit 2 chaises, 2 chairs and a table with plenty of room. Also half balcony was covered and half in sun. Just watch the decks. Not all the same. Especially if the ship aft curves. I didn't feel any motion. But the only vibration I felt was the engines when docking. It was like having an alarm set each port day. I ran out onto the balcony to watch the docking procedure.

We reserved an aft cabin for our Viking cruise . First cruise in 25 years. Really looking forward to it after watching your review.

One thing Carnival does right is have 3 sets of elevators so the walk from anywhere on the ship is not so long. Royal usually only has two sets and it can be a hike from some parts of the ship.

We had an aft balcony on the CCL Sunshine and loved it!!! Really didn’t feel any motion or noise and the view was not blocked at all. It was stunning!! And Tony!!! That walk to your elevator IS LONGGGGG!!!!!! We’ve had to walk that far to an elevator….strange but great looking cabin. :-) 🛳🌴🏝

Tony, I only book aft balconies. I just love the view of the wake and of the ocean. On a more serious note. Do you realize that you are out of breath during this entire vid. ? Im a bit concerned for you.

That looks like a really well thought out and spacious cabin. I agree with you Tony about the decor and color as well. I wonder if it would be for me because I can get motion sickness and usually I get a midship lower deck cabin. The ship's motion doesn't make me seasick every time and I always take my medication so maybe I would be OK.

I agree with you about the color, I really like it. Some ships have red or bright orange (reminds me of the 70’s, not known for its great decorating style) the blue and beige is calming and classy. Nice video, thanks agree Tony. Have a great Thanksgiving!!

Tony love your videos, please watch that weight and your health, as a big guy also I have had to watch my weight forever, trust when I say you will want to take off some of that extra weight before you get much older, it is easier now than at my age of 69!

My wife and I sailed the Odyssey awhile back and we ended up with an aft corner balcony. All I can say isWOW it was fantastic. I will be trying to score that same type of cabin on my next cruise. Keep up the great work Tony, it is appreciated.

Hi Tony! Aft balconies are way more spacious than regular balcony cabins Thank you for the great aft balcony room tour 🛳☀️🌊 We’ve only experienced motion in the aft balconies during rough seas, like windy or stormy days.

We always seek out Aft balcony cabins if they are available... not only are you away from foot traffic, but the "bonus space" on the balcony is a huge perk for us. I'm not super concerned about the walk to the elevators (as a previous poster mentioned, it's payment for the delicious food we enjoy on board)... what I would advise is watching for what's on the decks above. We'll usually try to get a cabin with one deck of other cabins above so we're not directly below the buffet, but if there's a party spot on the aft like NCL's Club H20 several decks of space are better... otherwise you need to be prepared to "relax" to the sound of dance music at all hours of the night...

Once you go Aft... 🤔 My hubby likes the aft balconies; I enjoy both a traditionally placed balcony and aft. I found there to be about the same amount of motion, but in the other direction. (rotated 90 degrees) For example - on a traditional balcony stateroom, the motion when laying in the bed might be side-to-side, while the aft stateroom - the motion might be head-to-toe. If motion bothers you, consider a different area of the ship. (or the motion patches, etc)

Truly like Aft Cabins, but like as much privacy as possible. Don't like guests being able to look down on ya from the floor/floors above.😏

No clothesline in the shower? The clotheslines come in handy for wet bathing suits & hand washable delicates!! There were plenty of hooks - but I do like the old fashioned clotheslines! Seems like all the ships are making the cabins more narrow (I think they’re rebuilding them to fit 5 cabins in the space that used to have only 4 cabins - the cabins might be longer - especially the deluxe balcony cabins but narrower - which makes it really difficult to get a mobility scooter thru the area between the bed & the wall - I’ve removed chunks of wall & have moved the beds trying to maneuver my scooter through that tight space (oh well, the cruise lines have never charged me for damages). I know I could book an ADA accessible cabin - but since I can walk around the cabin - holding on to furniture & the walls - I only use the scooter to get around the huge ships & I let the people who truly need the accessible cabins book them! I do like that aft balcony cabin - love the wake view, but I usually book cabins near the front (I love to watch the Captain & crew on the bridge)!

I recently subscribed to your channel, I’ve only been on one cruise so far, Carnival Ecstasy September 2019. I look forward to the next time I go, probably after Covid, if Covid ends. If Covid doesn’t end I’ll get back on the waves. Really enjoying your channel, all these videos of cruises reminds me of one of the best vacations I’ve had.

Aft balconies are my favorite!!! I love the views and you don't get the wind you get on a forward or even a port/starboard.

We have sailed in an aft balcony and loved it. We will be on carnival magic in September in another adt balcony. Love them. We di have a problem on the aft balcony on Royal Princess with suet.

I've never been in an Aft before but from what I've heard is it can be noisy and you can feel movement quite a bit. The view is awesome and the room seems rather spacious but I probably won't choose an Aft balcony.

We stayed in this exact cabin in Jan 21 and LOVED it. I would book it again in a heart beat. It made me love aft facing balconies.

We had a Sky Loft Suite on deck 8 on Ovation and had the same feeling about the long walk. We actually only went two the concierge lounge a couple times because it was also on the aft on deck 12 so to get there you had to walk all the way to the elevator and all the way back on deck 12. It’s not a big deal but we aren’t in the best shape so it felt longer lol.

We sailed in an aft cabin in our last cruise and I loved it. We were on Carnival. I never noticed them docking. Once we woke and had already docked, but never woke. Our hangers did swing on the first night but we just put the leftover hangers on the floor like you did.

We had the aft balcony cabin 10728 right next to you for two weeks in October. Loved that stateroom and the view was worth the longer than usual walk. It really is in a quiet area with no traffic that passes by your stateroom back there. Our bed was next to the balcony door and that extra floor space was great. We have exact same cabin 10728 for the 13 night transatlantic in Oct 2022 I would not hesitate to book one of these on future Odyssey sailings

We love the aft cabin, so much that we actually booked a ship date of it had a vacant aft cabin!! The longer balcony is great, usually can get lounger chairs which are great for an afternoon nap. End the evening out there listening and watching the wake and the stars! So quiet and peaceful. I find the balcony is so much more calm, less wind than the sides, actually no wind. There is literally no hall traffic as only those on the aft are using that hall. The con is defiantly the long walk so if you have mobility issues I would not recommend. There may be more movement back there, we have had the hanger situation and felt some vibration but on the most part nothing out of the ordinary.

Going on an aft cabin in 6 days, looking forward to it

I was assigned an aft balcony once and fell in love with the location so now I try to get them every time. The only time I've noticed extra motion is when arriving and leaving ports. :)

We took a cruise out of Galveston a few years ago. There m was a mix up during check in that ended up with us being put in an aft cabin. It had an incredible balcony that wrapped around the corner of the ship! Yes, we noticed the movement and some vibration but it didn’t bother us so it turned out to be a nice thing.

For someone who sailed freighters for over 30 years, that minor movement would just reminds me I'm on a ship. Merchant ships would vibrate more due to less insulation. Crew comforts were a little less of a concern on merchant vessels. There should be some vibration aft in shallow water as the prop thrust bounces off the mud below. Due to the shape of the stern they were able to include enough extra room for that dance floor, nice. If that's all they have I'm in but prefer a cabin forward to see where we're going. We’ve been getting free balconies on Carnival lately, otherwise we’d be inside. Balconies can be noisy depending on the neighbors, and not worth nearly double to us. On long cruises, we like the darkness of the inside cabin for sleeping in.

We had the aft corner suite on Majestic. HUGE balcony that was a waste with all the rain. Would be great in a warm climate. 1st time aft. Not sure I liked it. We had the vibration and had to move the hangars too. But it was a beautiful cabin. I did do a video of it. It's on RU-vid under the account of grannybsgeckos. We are doing another aft suite in 3 days!!! On the Ruby. Going warmer but with a bit smaller balcony, than the corner. Will still be huge for us! This will probably be our last aft, and almost for sure our last suite, as we are out of FCCs lol

This is my Cabin in September ! Luckily a good friend gave me a tour of 10728 last month when we were on board

I've booked an aft silver junior suite with big balcony (J1) on Spectrum (younger sister to Odyssey) on the 12th deck. Its a much bigger room than this and comes with a bathtub. Can't wait for my cruise :). There are similar aft rooms on the 13th deck but not the best because deck 14 above is a public area :)

We stayed in the aft balcony on odyssey and our favorite part of this room was that you do not get any foot traffic by your door. You have a lot more privacy and will never been woken up by people running, talking or whatever else is happening in the hallways at night or early morning.

The views would make any con of that cabin worth it for me.

That’s the trade off. There’s a lot of movement in the back of the ship as well as prop noise. Same is true for bow facing balconies. A lot of movement and wind. Not too bad in normal circumstances but I imagine pretty bad in high seas.

Aft balcony on the Carnival Horizon. Everything on the balcony covered in soot from the stacks. Never again.

aft cabins/suites will give a little bit more motion and sometimes a little cavitation from the prop but, the aft balcony is WAY worth it...take the unused hangers down no matter where you are...IMO

Its tiny compared to a carnival suite. So narrow. Also dont like how the bed is near the entrance. Should be flipped with the lay out.

Gotta say, though, for our personal taste, we prefer the port side, (or if we have to, the starboard side), so that we can see both where we've been and where we're heading, as with your aft cabin, you can only see where you've been. Just my thoughts. But lovely cabin, all the same.

Googled Odyssey AFT balcony after earning a free cruise from the casino.. just realized I booked your exact room! Super excited, loved the video! I subscribed!

We had an aft balcony on Disney Fantasy and it was the best cabin EVER! you definitely feel vibration maneuvers, not anything to worry about. We never had any ash.

We had an aft facing balcony on the NCL Dawn, deck 8, Feb. 2020 and never had any notable issues with motion. We had a side balcony on the Carnival Triumph Nov. 1999 and one sea day was miserable.

Love aft facing rooms.. Always book them now. I figure if the movement feels "boatie" its supposed to and we don't mind it. Don't mind the walk either but we tend to like to relax on the balcony at night and drink and talk rather than immerse ourselves in the peopley stuff :)

It seems funny that there's not more furniture on that massive extended balcony. Is it possible to request actual loungers? We sailed in an aft balcony years ago on the Carnival Pride, and LOVED it. One of my favorite things was how quiet it was; nobody is passing by in the hall except the neighbors, so no kids running around at all hours making noise 😎 I didn't mind the long walks to the elevators, it was good exercise given how much we were eating 😂 I wouldn't recommend an aft cabin for anyone prone to motion sickness, but we were drinking so much our bodies didn't expect the floor to be holding still 🤪

Tony... I didn't care for my aft balcony on the NCL Encore, mostly because of the smell from the smoke stack... smelled fuel the entire time in Alaska.

Hi Tony! Yes, sailed aft balcony on a cruise to Alaska. We LOVED the views and spent so much time on our balcony. I did have a bad bout of motion sickness and missed our first formal night. The hangers were really smacking the closet that day! Should have put the patch on earlier. I don’t know if I would go aft again. A more centralized location is more desirable.

2 questions. Is there a electric outlet in the bathroom for elec shavers. It's usually located above the sink on the ceiling. Is there a night light in the bathroom, similar to Celebrity Equinox? Thank you for posting.

Hope I can get my answer here... I want to book an aft Junior suite on Rhapsody of the Seas. I've seen the balcony and it's amazing. However I do suffer from motion sickness (though I was perfectly fine on my last cruise and didn't need to take anything) and I also heard that vibration from the engines is pretty pronounced in the aft cabins. Has anyone had these issues?

Have had an aft balcony. I am VERY susceptible to motion sickness and we did NOT have any more motion there. Way more in the bow!

We have had aft balconies on Freedom-class ships. There is a little more noise and vibration when docking and departing, but not significant. An aft corner balcony has a very large balcony. There is enough space for 8 to 10 people to enjoy a drink and the view before dinner. But, it is a hike to the elevator.

I think I will stick with mid-ship for cabins. Decks 6-8 preferred. Less motion. My wife is more sensitive to the motion. But have stayed in some forward and aft cabins. Not a fan.

We've stayed in several aft facing cabins, both balcony and suites. I can sometimes detect a slight vibration from the screws and somewhat more pronounced from the aft thrusters. I have never found it objectionable though. We like them. We've stayed in side facing balconies and once in a forward facing suite, though it wasn't really all that forward facing. Our next two cruises will both be in truly forward facing cabins. Both Princess. Nov 29 on Regal in a forward mini-suite, and Dec 4 on SKY in one of the new forward window suites. This whole pair of cruises are a result of wanting to try out that window suite. It's huge! 710 sq ft of interior space!!!!!!! I'm surprised, as new as your ship is that there are no USBs as a part of the bedside lamps. :-( Giving away your cabin number. You must already be home. :-) David.

Great video. Wanted to check out an aft stateroom before booking. We are now on the Odyssey of The Seas back-to-back in November 2023 in aft facing stateroom. Now I just have to figure out how to get the stateroom attendant to bring to loungers down to the room for us LOL

Have always wanted to try an aft balcony so thanks for the video. My only concern is my wife has troubles with motion so we normally stay mid ship to minimize it for her.

We hab an aft balcony on Carnival Magic. It was in July, and it was so hot we couldn't use it. Also, it wasn't very private.

I just got upgraded to a rear facing club balcony suite on the NCL Norwegian for a $100 bid!

Aft staterooms are nice, but pricey because of the bigger balcony. But do check deck plans and look at photos, because you should not pick a stateroom that's next to the HVAC exhaust system, that can get loud when on your balcony.

The aft balcony has been my favorite cabin since I first found them abt 2003. Have a cruise coming up in January in one on Viking.
