OpenTTD dev here. Thanks for all your tutorials and community-building work. It's always heartening to see our work being enjoyed in the wild. I love your idea to promote and teach free (and often open source) games. I look forward to seeing what you do next. Personally, I would love to learn to play Simutrans! It's been suggested by a few other people here, as an OpenTTD-adjacent games with some different features, but I've never managed to figure it out. Another possible addition to your list is Endless Sky, an open-source space adventure and fleet-building game available on Steam.

I have only discovered your channel yesterday, and you already have convinced me to download OpenTTD and spend the better part of my day building train tracks and roads. No matter what you focus on, if you keep this same excitement, energy, thinking, and focus your channel will grow along with all the open-source projects you explore. Making the exploration/mastery a sincere excitement and thrill makes listening to you very encouraging and reassuring in the dark, sometime unknown waters of strategy gaming (me this morning knowing nothing about OpenTTD). I've loved following you these last 11 years, and I think this is a fabulous idea. I found you because I wanted to learn OpenTTD, and I stayed because I enjoyed watching the community around the game grow. I can't wait to see these fabulous free games get the same excellent treatment!

I was learning to play OTTD (still am), found your channel, it was incredibly helpful not only in learning the game but also in getting more fun out of it. And you have never left a question of mine unanswered (even if sometimes it was a dumb question). I think you are such a considerate, generous person. Go on!
You are absolutely fantastic. I love watching your openttd content and it's so calming and informative. Your brand for me is being knowledgeable, charismatic and enthusiastic but quite understated. You remind me of an old school TV presenter! You've taught me and my autistic son how to play (not really my thing but he loves it.) so we can play on a server together. Ultimately though you'll never be able to make this a career while sticking to open ttd because the player base isn't big enough. Its not selling out to extend to other games. Its reality. And if you can provide what you do to other games I'll be watching.

If you're into RTS, you should check out Beyond All Reason, easily one of the best free games I've played. especially if you played Total Annihilation or Supreme Commander
A great idea to grow the channel. Will you continue to prioritise "community" built games such as OpenTTD over "freemium" games like EVE, Fortnite, CS2? Also consider looking at games on iPad/Android.
Both community and freemium games will go through the same assessment process. They will each get through on their own merits. The list is primarily for pc however it is not exclusive for that and there are times on the website for the platform.
Hey hellish iv been a watcher for a while now and iv really enjoyed you content for the most part. I like your idea. Its the old saying "if your not moving forward your going backwards". So its good to have ambition. But dont get lost in the number of youtube you have fantastic community and if you stay true to yourself we will follow because we enjoy the high quality content and the person making it
Of course, don't worry I'm still going to be me and I'm still going to be doing it in my way. It's just we have a little bit more focus now on a goal which really was the original route for the channel.
As a long time student of your open ttd series, may I borrow a phrase and say "FANTASTIC!". This sounds like a great idea. Speaking for myself, gaming is/can be an expensive hobby as games only get more and more expensive, as well as the equipment to run them. If there is a gem of a free game )like open ttd is) then it's great there'll be a channel to discover it and understand how to get the best out of it.
@@MasterHellish-Gaming if i remember correctly simutrans split from openTTD or a predecessor project well over a decade ago, simutrans extended budded off of that, there were features from simutrans extended i missed when i went back to openTTD, the industries and vehicles can be a bit wonky in SimutransEx Britain but it's very accurate to the real production figures, ticket prices, vehicles and rolling stock and such.
Okay okay, I got, you are starting an OnlyTrains.... I'm not saying I'm signing up, I'm also not not saying I'm signing up... Jokes aside, you do what you enjoy and most likely, that will resonate with people.
I will consider this, however for now there certainly seems to be plenty of potential with just free games by themselves. I already have quite a massive list to work on.
I think that "free games" is kind of too broad. I mean, it could work, but it can be narrowed down to be a niche that could catch some interest. I, for one, would love to watch about fan remakes of old games. A category into which, coincidentally, OpenTTD falls into perfectly well.
You could be right. But I'm going to start with that broad category and then what I will probably do is create further content on the ones that are most popular.
@@MasterHellish-Gaming it is probably the most worked on classic rogue-like. It has a world wide active community including events… I should also mention C:DDA; Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead. While also a beloved, heavily worked on rogue-like, it is set in a zombie apocalypse and is more survival focused. So not really a ‘classic’ one. As far as I am concerned these two games are spectacular and far better than anything you could pay for on steam. PS.. I assume that Dwarf Fortress is also on your radar.. its free version is still updated and easily available.. as are tile sets.
I thought the idea was to try games once, good Ok Bad one's ditch forever ? Shooters or fantasy,enertaining yes, educational No ! Open Locomotion still need the original. Free Gog or steam games ? World of tanks, warship, wings, or Grepolis buy content like ?

Continuing the OpenTTD, good. Trying other free games, good. So, are we going to see games like FreeCiv, FreeCol, FreeOrion, OpenXCom, Hexapolis (Android), DeckEleven's Railroads 2 (Android), Pocket Trains (Android), Frost Train, Alien Horizon and Super Auto Pets? What about the free prologue's that are gaining popularity now? If there's an avaliable slot for paid games, would these games of interest, like?: The old but still being updated Star Sector, newer indie titles, heavily discounted gems like FTL or would it be only games that you have a special interest in? Yep, we're looking into lots of games just like them. But also we're looking at things that are free to play like pubg. If there's available slots for paid games on the channel then I will continue to do games that I enjoy and want to share, including games like FTL, which I think I have five seasons of already.
