Horns up and welcome to Headbanger's Kitchen. After 38 years I'm finally moving out of my parents house. I've mentioned in this video why I lived there for so many years and why I am moving out now but if you have any questions feel free to ask in the comments. Truth be told there are a lot of layers to this, lots of things to unpack and so on and so forth but I did my best to keep it short and sweet because I could ramble on for hours about things. Hey everyone thank you so much for your kind words and wonderful wishes. I am super excited to give you a tour of the new house. We've only moved about 2km/10minutes away from my parents place so that I can see them and still be near them. Also I get to access my studio easily. I wouldn't worry about it. I still have two at home and the house is large enough I rarely see them at all. As long as life is moving along for you, you are helping with the bills and your mom is okay with it, who cares?

I am 30 and live with my parents still, in the US, we are originally from Punjab. I never plan on leaving, I recently got married and wife and I will be living with our parents. We both have good jobs and will just buy a bigger house. I can't imagine living without my parents.

Not everyone hates their in-laws. We chose to to move in with my mother in law because it was the best decision financial and for her health. We all love being together and my kids have an amazingly close relationship with their grandmother.

Many Americans had multi-generational homes before the 1970s. You are lucky to have the experience and good parents. My parents are both passed on, and I miss them. Good luck for you and your lovely wife, on your next adventure. After all, you will become the elder generation yourself soon enough !

I think my son was about your age when he moved out. I didn't need his money, but made him pay a little to cover the extra food & heating, etc. He saved a lot and was able to buy a house when he finally left. I was a young widow, so it was nice having a guy around to help and make sure I was up on the latest trends so I didn't become an old fogey. : ) We like each other and it was always a pleasure to have him around. Over the years, a lot of people told me I should make him leave, but why? Just because he got older? If he didn't work and spent all his time in the basement playing video games, then yeah, but he has a graduate degree, a good job, and has never caused any trouble. Why should I make him leave? All that said, it is good to be on your own for a bit, even if you move back as your parents get older. Good luck in the new place.

My mum did not let me move to my own place after marriage. I was too close to her. The hapiness in her eyes when I achieved anything was priceless. Very few parents can resist the mainstream and let their own feelings guide them in life. Be true to urself. Rest does not matter

As a mother it is your job to prepare your child for independence so they can go out and start a family of their own. Of course it was comfortable, but was it promoting his autonomy and personal development. I hope he doesn't resent that time.

@@ARolls-dd2zd as a mother or parent job is to train children for life and to enable them to make their own decisions. If the child of their own chooses to be connected with parents , it's not a mum job to push her children away from her forcefully. Looking at modern parents without any connect with grown up kids is the biggest curse of our times. Wat a terrible legacy for the future generations to leave behind. Hope humanity is able to correct itself on this grave mistake. Let the children choose. Dont force them either ways

Multi generational households are very common where we live in Canada’s North…cost of living here is extremely high as well…it’s not looked upon as negative, but a win win for families.

WHAT!!!! This will be a big change of life for your family. Also ironically (?) I'm moving to live with my own family (due to all the things of the past year and our mothers age and I'm changing my work field). Better to work to build good family relationships than keep up with other people's opinions (& stay out of debt). Thanks for sharing all these parts of your life.

Best wishes for your move! My adult son lives with me, he says it makes more sense and he's comfortable so why move? I couldn't think of a good reason, so here we are. I've been trying to get my dad to move in, too! (USA)

Yeah, I still have two grown kids at home. My other three freak out a bit about it, but it works. Also, I'm no longer a spring chicken. Without them I couldn't keep up with the yard etc. The house is paid for, it's large enough for all of us, we rarely see each other with their working schedules and they are paying most of the bills. Things are expensive these days. Also, one is a dog trainer and no one is going to rent to someone with 5 dogs. It's fine. The more likely scenario is I would move out.

@@lornalewis7262 Have no idea. Of my five kids from age 44 down to age 22 only 1 has children. I imagine if the two at home get married, their wives will want to move on. I know as married couples I think it would be best to be on their own.

My daughter is 25 and people keep telling me to make her move, my grandson is 4 and what we did was bought the house next door., so we’re renovating it but she said she feels more comfortable being that close because she’s in college and we help her with him. I grew up in a multigenerational home. It was fun, I grew up with my great grandparents and cousins, such great memories

I wish you well in your move. My son has been renting for the past 5 years, and like you knows that he can always return home if he wants or needs to. He used to pay 50% of the rent, but I provided all utilities and food when he was at home.

@@genjutsu88 Same in India. No parent would ever ask for rent or utilities. Children share the household expenditure because of their own sense of responsibility. If parents do not have a post retirement income the entire household expenditure is taken up by the children . They in turn do not expect anything from their parents.

It doesn't seem weird to me at all. My husband and I lived with my folks in the early years of our marriage. Then we moved into an apartment right next door. And my daughter and her (hopefully) future husband will very likely do the same.
