You call our cities and places whatever you want!!! We just love to have you here!! You are the best visitors! What a unique way of travel, so interesting. Beautiful video, thank you for visiting our little country!
I love the way to showcase our lovely country, most of us , need that i think, back to appreciate the " simpler " things like sunrise and sunset's by one of our many many beaches .. Thank you so much
"As a rule, you may always spend the night in public car parks, as long as you are not camping. Cf. According to the Danish Business Authority, it's camping when you stay on the site for a longer period, set up camp, have awnings pitched or make similar major arrangements in the parking area." From a Danish autocamper site :) So you can definitely stay under 24 hours and sleep in a camper.
That goes for public parking spots. Marinos are private land with general access. General access in Denmark means from sun up to sun down/no overnight stay. Complaining about parking on private land is wild.
@@WeWillNomad Haha, I bet. I'm sure you'll run it off though. Millie is just a tank. She just keeps on going. All down to your maintenance. How may kms has the old girl clocked now André ?
Time 24.33: Here you are looking out of the car window, here you are perhaps looking at the most interesting part of Denmark's history, Lindø now the port of Odense. The world's leading wind turbine manufacturer for Vestas is based here. They make a turbine that is 266 m high from the ground to the top of the blade, rotor diameter 260, a rotor area of 53,902 m^2 and weighs a total of 1750 tons. + hundreds of other stories about that place. 👍
I can really tell you guys love Denmark 🇩🇰 and who can blame you. It does seem a great country. After the year I've had so far, I totally agree with you when you say we should appreciate every sun rise and sun set, I certainly do now. Take care 👍 🐸
We appreciate having people/tourists like you guys visiting, I’m so happy to know that you had a nice trip here. Unfortunate to hear about the parking issues though. It is what it is I guess. Great content, thank you.
Another great video, thanks. I've read a lot about Denmark and its issues with campervans and motorhomes, and its put me off visiting. But then I watch your vlogs and I want to visit and explore as you have done. Thank you, as always. 👋🇬🇧🇪🇺🇺🇦
Thanks Geoff. A lot of the 'issues' are concentrated around specific areas and it's VERY seasonal. This is what makes it so tricky to navigate. Our observation is that the relaxed attitude Danes have with regards to strict regulation is/was based on their sense that they/we are considerate towards others. The influx from 'outsiders' upset that delicate balance somewhat. Hopefully there will not be a knee-jerk reaction and sensible limits during peak season can solve the problem. This is not unique to Denmark at all.
@@WeWillNomad Try Portugal during the winter, its like every camper van in Europe descends down there. They have had enough of them too, people leaving rubbish and human waste everywhere.
@@galdessa1 Parts of southern Spain is the same and very busy during winter. In fairness, there is no shortage of bins and recycling in specifically Spain and rubbish disposal is very easy.. Although we really like Spain we'll probably be avoiding Andalucia from now on during winter. In fact, we'll probably avoid Spain and Portugal altogether during winter - for a while.
As long as you sleep in your car or motorhome or truck it is (when in Denmark) camping. If you want totally free camping/sleeping go to a farm - we have lots of them all over and ask to park there. I think 90% will say yes. Have a great trip around Denmark😊
Det er ikke korrekt. RU-vid er ikke glad for at man linker til websider i kommentarer, men prøv at søge på "regler for overnatning på p plads", og vælg det øverste link, og du kan se reglerne forklaret.
hi! I recently saw your camper at a spot near Mullerup on the east coast of sealand and therefore looked for your channel! :) Me and my family stayed at the same parking space there and noticed the youtube tag on the side!😅 very cool video and have fun in denmark!
If you haven’t visited Møns klint at the Island of Møn - you definitely need to go. Hands down one of the most amazing places in Denmark. A “Dark sky” area where you will the night sky like never before. There is an amazing Camp site right next to the klint. Enjoy…
Great vid with good vibes ad always 😊Kommen is caraway seeds not fennel. It’s also used in snaps but not much else, it has kinda gone out of style. I think Germans still use it quite a bit for pork knuckle and the like. Anyway glad to see you are still enjoying you stay. If you haven’t left DK yet and going to Sjælland you might wanna check out Lynæs in the town og Hundested it’s one of the best kite spot in DK and you can get excellent ice cream at Vaffelhjørnet. That guy with the parking debacle the guy probably didn’t know the rules and couldn’t admit that or that he was wrong.
I spend at least one month every year sailing around Denmark, staying in marinas or at anchor. In marinas we pay a small fee (150kr to 250kr) for every night we stay. Most marinas have space for motorhomes and they must pay too. Why do you think that being asked to pay for your parking is “taking advantage of tourists”? We pay our way (as Danish citizens) and you should too.
@@claremaccarthy7308 First I'm not a sailor or camper myself. But as I understand it, there is a difference between parking and camping. If you park you are not allowed to put out chairs, set up an awning etc. If you camp in a paid campsite you can also use the facilities, just like when you get a key to paid facilities in marinas. When you anchor outside the marinas you don't pay either, do you?
@@MogensDam You’re right, I don’t pay at anchor. But after two or three nights at sea, I must go to a marina to empty my toilet tank and refill my fresh water tank - this service I pay for, and am happy to do so. In Danish law, while there’s no clear definition of the difference between “at raste” and “at campere”, many municipalities forbid what is known as “piratcampering”. In Gentofte kommune, where I live, overnight stays at the kerbside or public carparks is forbidden. Campervans must stay and pay in either Charlottenlund Fort Camping or Skovshoved Havn if they want to sleep here.
@@claremaccarthy7308 Of course people will have to pay if there is a signs that says so. But In this particular case with Andre and Lisa, there was no signs at all (other than the common P-sign). I've got the impression that Andre and Lisa are keen to follow the regulations, and if they are not sure, they move on to another spot.
Been following for a long time now, just love how you go arround in DK. Very inspirering. Have you ever been to Bornholm ? We have been living here sind 1998, great and different nature here too. Have a Nice trip, looking forward to see where you Are going next 😊
Aww what a lovely vlog… good to see you both looking so well and I’m good spirits. Andre a star in the kitchen as always … albeit a little modest 😘 You really packed an interesting watch and how lovely to have invites etc from followers and friends! Loved the museum … oh and wondered if you ended up paying for the park … 😏 Omg the park up by the sea … so beautiful… awesome 💙 Thanks so much for sharing …
Thanks Jo, always lovely to hear from you! 😊 No, we didn't end up paying, he quickly backtracked and said OK we don't have to pay. But it's sad that he tried his luck. 😕 Sometimes when we find a spot like that we really don't want to leave! 😂 Keep well and thanks for travelling with us!
Fun fact: The romkugler from the Nørre Aaby bakery are no longer the "best in Denmark". They won that title some years ago but no longer hold it. This year it's a bakery in Åbenrå that holds the title of making the best romkugler in DK.
@@WeWillNomad I think the have a model with a tent-like side curtain, but of course, as I'm also rather tall, I know that trees don't grow into heaven! Finn 😄
That was mighty folks. I really enjoyed it. I love your accompanying music, very pleasant and great choices. That brewery looked wonderful and so nice of the owner to give you a tour. You both look so healthy, and I think I noticed two pairs of runners drying on Millie at one point, so you seem to be still doing regular runs. Good for you. That guy from the Marina was annoying, I think that he was trying it on. The Danes sure know how to do things well, that free museum was so cool. Thanks for sharing and safe travels.
Thanks as always Ronan! Yes, we definitely need to continue our regular running considering all the naughty things we're consuming here! Denmark is petty good for running too as it's fairly flat and we're usually out in the countryside. 😊 There's so much about Danish culture and way of life that we appreciate. Keep well! 🤗
It is a joy to see you, and very inspiring. Preferably more cooking, as it is absolutely delicious. Looking forward to the continuation. Excited about Greece. 😃👏👏👏
There will always be a beach available for you - if wind comes from north you go to a northern beach - you do not have to drive long for a beach that suits you - lots of free space - yes 'rom kugler' is a thing in fact I will go and buy a pair tomorrow ... if you ever come back then pop by north west zealand - this place is especially good for kiting and have very impressive beaches ...
Little note, the students white hat, isn't a sailors cap at all, nor is it even related to it. It dates back to some pan-scandinavian student meetups in Sweden almost 200 years ago by now, the design has changed a bit over the years, but the biggest change is it now white as opposed to black. The coloured band signifies which secondary education you took (we have a lot of different ones), the cross in the center of the kokarde is NOT a symbol of your faith at all, though recently some immigrants have misconstrued it as such, it is a reference to how in the old days the reason people were sent to university was to study to become a priest, so that's the actual connection, it shows that you are now ready for university. There is also a LOT of traditions around graduation secondary school and the hat, but that's a huge topic on its own.
@@herrensaar1989 I think you misread things, I didn't say it had to do with immigrants, I said immigrants misconstrue it, and thus some have replaced it with a crescent, because they don't know what the cross symbolises, they think it symbolises your religion, it doesn't, it symbolises you can now enter university.
Fredericia was actually supposed to be the new Capitol of Denmark, after we lost Skåne (southern Sweden) to the Swedes, in the 16 hundreds. But the king was poor and had to stick with Copenhagen, although this no longer had the Capitol, Copenhagen, in the centre of Denmark. And that's how we now have our Capitol at the edge of our country.
And before Køb-En-Havn which means Buy-A-Harbour raw translated, we had Roskilde as the capital. Skåne and Slesvig-Holsten, may you never be forgotten ⚔🧙♂
Thank you for showing me my beloved Fyn where my genes are from especially since I have been living abroard for half a century. You might have inspired me to visit in my motor home next year 😃
So lovely, as always. You are now very close to where we live! In Skåne, the southern part of Sweden. I think you should give Sweden a visit in your next journey, (We also love Denmark and often visit it even if we are more focused on France and Italy on our journies. Denmark is to close for an adventure for us. We have only one hour drive to Copenhagen from our home. :) Br, Johnny & Ewa
Thanks Johnny & Ewa! We've seen a little bit of the south of Sweden (2 years ago) and we loved it so perhaps we will return next year on the way to Denmark! 😊
Thanks Markos! We'll only start heading south in the next couple of weeks and although we are definitely heading to Greece we don't know just when yet. 😊
I am originally from Kerteminde. I hope you went to "Fyns hoved" which is to the north of Kerteminde. Absolutely worth a drive out there. The area is called "Hindsholm".
My first visit to your channel. And wauw what a pair of lovely people are I honestly can't imagine a nicer couple. Just FYI. Those small marinas are often self ran /owned. So when people rent a night in the shelter or pay for camping a night, it helps the marina cover the expenses of emptying toilets, laying tarmac / gravel, or whatever comes up that needs repairs. I think they should lower the price though. At by 50 % or all the way down to 2 Euros per night. And they should definitely put up clear signs that is in adherence with law, if they expect people to pay. I'm pretty sure rules as to where you can park / sleep / camp over night has been made a lit more liberal than they were, say in the 90 and before then.
Thank you for visiting my country. Maybe Denmark isn't that bad after all. We just need to appreciate what we've got. The weather has been bad this summer, but you managed to find som sunny days. Btw the city Fredericia is pronounced "Frederit-sia" . In english: "Fre the rit see ya " . Hoping the rest of your time in Denmark will be great 👍🙂.
😂 It's definitely not that bad at all... well at least in summer it isn't! 😜 In our opinion even a bad Danish summer is better than the heatwaves of southern Europe. Thanks for the tip, now we'll have to return to have another beer and pronounce it correctly! 🤣 Thanks for watching David!
I saw your mobilehome at Torøhuse. We regularly access the beach at Torøhuse and it can be quite annoying if mobilehomes takes up all the spaces. Regardless - it is nice to see you found the good spots. Btw. you should consider going to Ærø.
Thanks! That's not really the type of place we would normally stop at. It's just too compact and we prefer spots with a bit of space. But alas, we were meeting friends for one night and it was convenient.
Hi André and Lisa. As a rule in Denmark, you can spend the night in all the places where you are allowed to park. However, it must be in a place where the motorhome can be and where there is no time limit. The law allows you to rest until you can drive again
Thank you. In every country we make the effort to learn the legalities around parking and we also try our best to be as respectful and considerate as possible to local residents.
Hi Andre and Lisa! I still love your videos and I have another question! Did you like that liquorice beer you tasted and what is the name of it? Regard en reis veilig!
Hi, thanks for the comment! ❤️ Liquorice is not something we generally go for but, in the beer, it was very nice. I'm not exactly sure of the name but I think it's one of Alex own brews in a stout style.
32:41 😄😄 I remember that comment from back then. I believe it was on your first trip here to Denmark and you were riding around the Copenhagen area. I had quite a discussion with that person who claimed that you were never allowed to ride two people on a bicycle. I remember asking them if that made all parents, who have their kid with them on their bicycle, criminals. If I remember correctly the person ended up deleting their comments in the end.
Haha yes exactly! 🤣Since then, there has been a few more comments on that video regarding the bike riding.. Not sure why that would be what someone would want to take away from our pretty innocent and silly vlogs.
Are you guys still in Denmark? If you are, you have to come to the Horsens middelalder festival (middle age festival) this very weekend, from Friday to Saturday. It takes place around the earlier state prison in Northern Horsens city. Just follow the traffic and expect around +50.000 visitors over the weekend. But it's well worth it. Even when it's so crowded.
🤣🤣 Unfortunately (or thank goodness!) we're all the way on Sjaelland so won't be able to make it! But thanks for the suggestion, perhaps we'll look out for it next year! 😜
Love your cool and relaxed way to experiencing a country. Denmark is really a beautiful country, but I might be bias. 😅 Also, what is the strange row of lights, at 18:30 up in the left corner on the screen.
You like walking streets, you've come to the right place. Denmark has two of the longest in the world. The one in Copenhagen and the one in Esbjerg, which is the longest in Denmark. There's one in Bordeaux, France, that's longer than both, though. The one in Copenhagen is also said to be the oldest in the world, but that's not true.
oh you visit my town , Fredericia :-D I actually live in the walking/ shopping street . I am sorry , about your parking experience, but we have specific rules in Denmark, were to camp , and were to park , otherwise every beach in Denmark or harbourfront, in Denmark, would be crouded with campers and mobilhomes . If I took my car, to the harbour in Fredericia , and just left it for days(parked), I would also get a ticket. I think Middelfart on Fyn, is a good place to park . Wish you a pleasant stay
Hi Regarding camping, You are right. In Denmark, if Your car is under 3500kg in total weight, You can park and sleep in a normal ‘P’ parking (unlees private or payed offcourse). This is specified in ’Trafikstyrelsens §28 stk.1 - stk 16’. So as long as You do not take out chairs, grill and stuff, Your camper is just a ordenary car by danish rules.
15:05 Hi, I am wondering about that laptop stand you have? It looks like it attaches above the windscreen. I wonder where you got it? I greatly enjoy your videos, thank you for doing them!
Just search online for "adjustable laptop stand" and you will find the same type we use. We just fitted 2 brackets to the sun visor mounts and the 'feet' of the stand clip over these. Top keep it from swaying we made a little bracket out of aluminium which clips into the cubby.
Hi : )) Cheese!! you have to try the same cheese but from one of those trucks that goes from town to town. Mind blw difference Btw, if in Maribo/lolland and like rye bread, pabst/ vin og brød is still champion he he . ))
Faaborg og den egn er bare blandt de kønneste i DK. Det er bare så smadder hyggelig. Sidste år har sidste gang jeg var der. Jeg var over at arbejde en dags tid og blev igen helt forbavset over hvor skønt der er.
I do live in Kerteminde. First, your interpretation of parking/camping is correct. For other viewers: If you haul things out of your camper, you are camping. If all your things are in the camper, you are parking. And it is perfectly fine to rest while parking, even recommended. I have checked the Marina. It is public owned by Kerteminde commune, where I live. So my tax money goes toward the marina. If the guy were legit, you would see it on he's clothes and car. It would say "Kerteminde Kommune".
This video threw me a bit... I was like.. That looks just like back in my growing up town Fredericia, they got the canons and all, crazy how it looks just like up by the Hvide Vandtårn.. and lo and behold you're there. Shame it couldn't have been on the 5 and 6 of July as that day would have been a day to remember. Modern canons fireing on the wall or oppe på volden as we say. They start at 6.30 in the morning and have stuff going on all day with speaches and soldiers dressed in 1849 uniforms to remember the battle against the germans that attacked from down at the german border with plans to take Denmark but we won the battle and they buggered off.. so a lot of stuff in those days that always ends with a big fireworks at 23.00 in the evening. 😊 Btw, seen a few videos, and i still can't get over how good you are at pronouncing the danish Æ. Most non Danes cant do Æ.Ø.Å very well but your Æ is spot on.. you've listened and made an effort and you got it. Well done. Now had i been over there i would have bought you a piece of Brunsviger each. Since you tried Romkugler, it would have made sense if you'd tried Brunsviger another classic pastry that has its origins in Odense and you where right there where the best brunsviger is still made today according to the media.. 😊 A try for next time then.. regards Simon a Brit in Denmark since 73.
Did you end up paying or did you just decide to leave? On P4N it’s marked as €8 but that could be the area on the rhs. The comments are a bit mixed with regard to paying/not paying so it’s not very clear but surely if the area was payable there would be a sign saying as much? The fact it’s marked free parking on the municipal site seems to be very clear! Still we’d have done the same and moved on - don’t need the hassle. We’re currently near Skagen. I need to revisit some of your Denmark videos to see where else to go. This was a bit of an unplanned tour around Denmark after having to cut short our Norway trip due to tick bite and Lymes disease 😬.
No we didn't pay. The guy seemed very 'unofficial' and besides we know that if it was paid parking (or private) it would have to be indicated. Lymes disease? 😨 Oh no that's too bad! Seems like the weather will be really nice the next week or so. This is a good time to be in Jutland!
I dont know if parking was allowed or not. It is pretty normal to look at "sleeping over night" as camping. However - there must be signs in the area telling if it cost money. You cant just pop-up and say you want money for camping , if its not public announced . Anyway... if you are still on Fyn, Id say you missed Svendborg. Its one of the most cozy towns in Denmark . And Langeland too !! I could give cake and coffee at the summerhouse - though i understand you decided to say no, thanks. A small stroll in Rudkøbing is worth it if you visit Langeland - and a walk around the wild horses in south. If you cant find free parking , you can you my ground 300 meter from the beach at Bukkemose Beach
The cheese has Caraway seeds and not fennel seeds 😃 in danish we call what you call cumin “spidskommen” meaning “pointed caraway” 😃 By the way… visit Museum Obscurum in Nykøbing Falster 👻🧟💀🧟♂️ and have a really different museum experience 😉
Boels bro . never thought i should see that in a vlog, i used to live on the top of the hill. u probably just met a local fiisher who had a bad catch . and the area u camped on is public.
Sorry you had to run in to some of the tyical butthurt danes, when it comes to parking/camping. You guys did nothing wrong, the blue P sign is public parking, and aslong you don't put down the steps and/or put up a table outside the camper you are just parking. It is totally legal to sleep in your car, if you are tired it is acctually illegal to drive. You just have to leave within 24 hours, unless a shorter periode is listed on a sign next to the blue P sign. If it says 3 or 6 hours you have to respect that, but that is useually only at Truck stops. Enjoy your visit and thanks for sharing, it's fun to see my own country and backyead from a different perspective.
Here is a link to the laws, if you run into someone like that again. Just ask them to read this 20 page document, for your info the relevant part is on page 19/20 naturstyrelsen.dk/media/xmkf4sr5/vejledningsnotat-om-autocampere.pdf
About the parking... There is a lot of debate this summer, about mobilehomes crowding the beaches, marinas and public parking. The thing is that mobile homes are using roads, parking areas and public places, but generate no income, for the locals. Near my home is a very popular beach, that this summer is packed with mobile homes. Mostly german.. They do not take properly care of their trash and are occupying the space and sunset-view, for people in the local (tourist) town, that walk from the campingplads or rented summerhouse, to the beach.. Since this is a discussion many places this year, I think that is the reason the man came to you. Had you paid the 60 DKK to stay the night, in the designated area, across the street, there would of course not have been an issue..
Of course we agree with you regarding the general problem of motorhome travelers not considering locals. As we do this full time we're extremely aware of the negative views created by some. If you've been following us for a while you will also know that we try our best not to intrude on areas which locals use during peak season. However, the point in this case was whether this parking was paid or not and if this person had the right to ask for payment for where we were parked.
@@WeWillNomad Yeah.. Im with you on that. And thank you for being like that. 👍 And no. If it is public parking, they need to send an official P-vagt, to write a fine, if parking is done illegally. Had it been a private parking (Which it was not) he would still have to have official ID - and write a fine - not just ask for money..
@@WeWillNomad So just to clarify In Denmark there's a difference between resting and camping, all though the destinction between the two is a bit blurry. However, being in an autocamper you are allowed to stop and rest during the day, but if you spend the night that is camping, hence the word autocamper, campervan, etc. You are allowed to stop at parking spots if the campervan can fit within the parking booths, but if not, you have to seek out designated campervan parking areas. However, no one except for the police can write a fine and only parking officers can write a parking fee. Hope, this helps and enjoy the rest of the trip.
@@TheOlesb Thank you! However, what you say regarding overnighting in a vehicle is not completely correct. This document makes clear what is allowed: naturstyrelsen.dk/media/xmkf4sr5/vejledningsnotat-om-autocampere.pdf
Like another comment said... go down to faaborg and svendborg...... so I have some extra to that ... Yeah and definitely take the ferry from Langeland to "Zealand" (in real Lolland)... once u are in Svendborg already.... (on the way to Langeland go up in the church tower on Tåsinge called Bregninge Kirke (church)).... could consider going to Ærø with Ferry from Svendborg... but will maybe cost a bit... maybe leave the autocamper in Svendborg and take a day trip there... dont know... but definitely go zealand from langeland... and when u come to Lolland and Falster go to Møn and Møns cliff
Thank you for the suggestions! We probably won't make it everywhere this time round, but we like to save something for next time. One of our very first stops in Denmark (2 years ago) was on Møn. We really liked that area!
I was wondering why they still made "Kommencheese" - I never met anyone who liked it...and I have been around in DK for almost 60 years. Well, now I know. They make it for the occasional Southafrican passersby... 🤣
I dont think it is because you are foreign. There is a huge debate in Denmark at the moment about motorhomes - a lot of people in small shoes, what can I say. Sorry on behalf of Denmark. 😢
😂 No need to apologise! We're keeping a keen eye on the developments regarding motorhomes in Denmark. The only reason we think it was because of our vehicle registration is because we were recommended this spot by locals who were specifically told it was free! Either way, one individual won't ruin our appreciation for Denmark! Thanks for watching 😊
What a lovely video :) That person that wanted money, is just a moron. Fortunately, it is not that often you meet them. Btw kommenost is not with fennel seeds, it's with caraway seeds ;)
@@WeWillNomad Well, thank you! ♥ As a Dane, im happy to see new folks exploring Denmark :D Have you been to north western Jutland (Thy)? There 's a wind/kite surfers paradise at Klitmøller, called Cold Hawaii. The landscape there is unique, marsh, heath and beach as far as the eye can see. And the wind and waves are just wonderful for surfing ♥
@@Hratluf Yes! Two years ago, we landed in Hirtshals upon our return from Norway and we saw spent quite a bit of time in the north of Jutland. Sadly, there was no wind to speak of (not even at Klitmøller). This year we actually planned to go back north but it didn't work out. Definitely next summer though. 😁😁
The Danish legislation clearly states that there must be a clear and distinct sign stating that accommodation must be paid for if payment is taken. Normally it is done in 2 places, at the entrance to the area and in the accommodation area itself. In addition to stating that it costs something, a form of payment / place of payment must also be specified. The reason for the payment is unfortunately something caused by a few rotten vessels within "campers". People who have emptied their toilets, thrown away their waste (such as several large 120 liter bags, in nature, after which the municipality's employees have had to remove their waste / toilet contents, It is neither pleasant for these employees to take care of other people's shit, menstrual pads, or waste, and it's something that can cause diseases. So I think it's completely disorderly that you charge for this. At the same time, it's actually a lopsided competition for the campsites when you see a parking space 50 meters from the campsite driveway sees 10-15 motorhomes parked / staying overnight. In Denmark, there is also a law that forbids the public to run competing businesses, which is another reason for charging money or forbidding overnight stays. In Denmark there is not like in some other countries a general right to just spend the night where you want. The owner (also if it is the society) must say OK for you to spend the night if you want. Either by a general permit or by having you bear the right in some other way - possibly against payment. Finally, I think there are many Danes who do not know the difference between "camping" and "break". That is why there are also many who have been on the field and say that they think it becomes camping when you exceed a certain time limit - for example 4 or 6 hours. It would perhaps also be easier to understand, but probably somewhat more difficult to enforce.
