This is my brief post build analysis of the Academy Hetzer Late. Needed to build something to get my mojo back. I included some footage of a real Jagdpanzer I was able to play around with a few months ago for comparison.

I love a good old fashioned Academy build every now and then. Their M-18 Hellcat remains one of my favorite American armor pieces

Thanks for another video! If I ever do a Hetzer it will be this kit. It looks great :) Michael's Hetzer video is also really cool to see the dust and oil and stuff on the lower hull, and the scrapes down the hull front where you slide down.

Really good to see one of your videos, Adam. I've really missed watching them. I once built a Hetzer and I painted it in ambush pattern. I took it to a club meeting and one of the guys liked it so much that he repainted his pickup truck in ambush pattern ! He worked as a painter and did it all himself for nothing. I didn't really believe it until I actually saw it ! And it did look good. I suggest you do an ambush scheme on yours. You've now convinced me that I need to get one of those for myself.

I took a ride in a Hetzer many years ago when I was in reenacting. I'm 6'2" and was standing in the commander's hatch and my body was about halfway out of the vehicle. I couldn't sit down as my knees had nowhere to go. Still, it was a lot of fun riding in one of those things.

A nice kit Adam. All those details about the actual thing are very interesting; thanks for sharing :)

Lovely intro to your video. Put a big smile on my face. I'm hoping that the Collingsfoundation will let spectators go for a ride when their big tank museum addition is complete. Your review was excellent as always. Would love to build this kit someday. Model on :)

The Italeri Hetzer was my first tank model, still a cool little vehicle although it looks a bit odd now it's parked next to a much larger Jagdpanther. Probably going to do another Hetzer in a month or two to see how far I've come in a year of modelling.

The Jagdpanzer 38t (Hetzer) was a very effective weapon with a very powerful gun...but it was not a popular vehicle with it's crews. It was a small vehicle and quite cramped with four men inside. The cannon was made to be loaded from the right side, which in the 38t was nearly against the fighting compartment wall; so the loader had to awkwardly lean over the entire gun and shove the round into the chamber on the other side. The 38t also lacked any ventilation fan; after firing a round, it often took 60 to 90 seconds for the fighting compartment to clear enough from the smoke for the crew to see what they were doing again. On the plus side, however, it was an extremely reliable vehicle with an excellent chassis and drivetrain...unlike many German tanks and self propelled guns. . In 1944 in Hungary, 100 newly issued Hetzers travelled 70 kilometers from a railhead to their position on the new front line; and not a single vehicle suffered any breakdowns or mechanical problems on the way. This fact was considered noteworthy enough to be included in the official report to headquarters upon completion of the move.

Cool video. Very jealous you got to go for a ride. Only got to sit in two Shermans and a m10. And was in a Hummel that was cool but the gun was welded.

You should do trumpeter's E-25 if you are getting interested in tank destroyers.

I've read some dispute about the dimensions of this kit; it looks good to me, however. I may well purchase this kit. Thanks for the video!

I have heard this. I didn't realize which kit this video was on. My good friend tankbrusher on RU-vid has been working on 3d printed fixes, but that's for many kits. I loved this one though and it was very affordable.

Nice to see you back Adam. The Academy Hetzer is great kit. I built it a few years ago and I noticed one issue. It's a late verison so the vehhicle should have a different shackles mounts (little triangles next to the mount) tank-photographs.s3-website-eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/hetzer-jagdpanzer-38t-tank-destroyer-td.jpg Beside this it is a great little kit.

Hi Adam, if you where on a desert island and a tiger 1 book washed up on the shore which one would you hope it was ? Obviously it would be handily in a waterproof bag 😁👍 as a footnote I would also like to say congratulations on getting married and the birth of your baby girl 😊👍 please accept my kindest regards to you and your family, Kenny from portsmouth England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Thanks very much, although we had a boy. Great question. If your goal is to understand the development of the Tiger than DW to Tiger I by Jentz and Doyle. If you're objective is combat history, then Tigers in Combat I for Heer or II for SS.

Adam Mann 😳 oops sorry my bad 😬 wishing your baby boy a fun filled life with you and your wife. Just know he will, every boys dream having parents like you and your wife. Both into modelling and things that go bang 😁👍👍👍 cushty reply about your book choice. I have been a fan of tigers since childhood, but started modelling again last Christmas after a 40 year break 😖 I’ve asked you a few questions in the past, which you have always taken the time out to reply to and which I took your advice. So I got a few tiger 1 models Dragon, Rye field, and the academy one with interior ( I know but it was so cheap ) I now have 7 all waiting for me to start building. But I needed a great reference book, hence my question. I thought you might say dw to tiger 1 but here in England it’s very expensive, but I’ll ask my wife to get it for me at Christmas 😊 the other 2 though are very reasonable at the moment so have put in an order on eBay. Would like to just say as well how inspirational you are Adam, your no nonsense, fools beware approach is brilliant. You show your builds, mistakes included, with tonnes of useful tips and advice for different era, type, battalion. BUT you never stuff it down our throats that it must be this way that way. Instead you advise, but nicely? I’m not putting it properly for which I’m sorry, I hope you realise what I’m trying to say ? Just know I respect you immensely, and your opinion counts... to me at least and many others I’m sure. Anyway your a busy man and I’ve taken up dare to much of your valuable time. I wish you and your family all the very best. Take care, kindest regards Kenny.

To begin with - Nick Moran would not call Pz38(t) as a "Hetzer" (he says this is not a proper name). There is no historical proof that this name was ever used with that "spg". Name Hetzer in german papers is used to name a E-10 prototype`s nickname. Someone just after the war made a mistake and mixed those two TD`s. Review is quite good, i like it. I made Pz 38 (t) from academy and wasim pleasent suprise. Everybody was telling me that Academy`s quality is rather poor, but that kit was very OK and puilds into a fine model. Only thing i was not impressed were painting masks. They looked OK but in fact they were inpractical in use. I did a kind ofa a template myself (from a paper) and handhelding used it when spraying camo. It worked OK. BTW- U know that there is Pz 38 (d)? It is that same vehicle (with minor difrences) but made in Germany not in Czechoslovakia. GL & HF
@AdamMann3D
@AdamMann3D 6 лет назад
As far as I'm aware the 38(d) was a planned diesel variant that never saw production.
@aleksanderdomanski222
@aleksanderdomanski222 6 лет назад
Adam Mann letter (t) means trzechoslovak (i am not sure about spelling), in fact if Germans used foreign equipment this was a way to indicate country of origin. So there were tanks with (f) cos they were French builds. So letter (d) for that TD was to suggest it is a German version. There might be some changes indeed. BTW, I reed some time ago that Germans stick with petrol cos it was making all fuel logistics much easier. One type of fuel for tanks not two.
