I would love to hear when you take down your Christmas decor? EDIT* Keep in mind we are not judging others or acting offended by others choices of when they take down their decor* Also, leave suggestions for others if you have any great storage ideas!

Enjoyed your video. I use many of the same ideas that you do, pack items up by room or location, use clear totes, use plastic bags for unbreakable items, etc. I generally take my decorations down the day after Christmas, but this year I decided to take down one room each day starting today. Sometimes it seems so stark to take down everything at once. We will see how it goes this year. I do store all my "soft goods" like table runners, Christmas quilts, throws, tree skirts, stockings all together in one tote.

I dont decorate much because of my cats and new puppy but my brother gifted me Christmas village stuff so I have a pretty setup of that along with some pictures I picked up. Im debating on putting them up because they the village is winter themed so thinking of keeping it out longer. When I did put up a tree I usually put it up a few days after Christmas. I think the last time I put one up I took it down the 26. I loved the tip about taking photos of how things are set up so you remember the next year. I did that. My village it set up perfectly. Loved all the tips you showed.

I’m slowly taking down our decorations. Mainly, I’m taking out red decorations and glitter. I’m leaving some of the winter greenery, including our lighted tree with ornaments removed…probably throughout January. Thanks so much…👏🏻💕

I don't do the 3 yr rule because I change up Decore every year! I use large plastic trash cans for my garlands. I circle it around in the bottom and stack my wreaths on top! The lids are rounded up, not flat, so I can stack in several wreaths on top. Keeps it all tidy and safe!

For those who don’t decorate because of the hassle, here’s an idea from Mary Lutkenhaus: Clear out home decor to make space and “negative” space, and create one showstopper display per room. Period. Personally, I like to have seasonal décor throughout a room and throughout my home to draw the eye to different areas and provide a cohesive look, but others may prefer simplified decoration. However, I feel that being decoration-free is a missed opportunity for a little more joy. In this day and age, we can all use a little more joy. :-)

All of my skinny trees I wrap in syran tightly. It holds all of the ornaments and lights in place for next year. Then they get put in storage fully decorated. The rest go in clear bins for each section of the house.

I’m an 81 yo lady! My three children have families that keep on going! Ex, and ex-exs, so I’m shuffled to whenever time to visit! I’m not complaining , just explaining my CHRISTmas decoration! I went through all my decorations and throwed out any decorations that held NO memories whatsoever! I have an 8 year old counter size tree with LED lights and runs on batteries!! I decorated it once and for all! When its time to remove, I put a king size pillow case over it and carry it to my large closet, put it on the top shelf! Next year I go get it off the shelf , uncover it and place it back on the table in the living room! I have a small Nativity set my Mother gave me before she passed and that’s brought out every year! When I pass away I won’t care what happens because these are all my memories❣️

I used to get the blues so bad it would lead to SAD/ depression. I figured out if I left my decorations up until I was sick of looking at them and wanted my space back, I had much less depression /SAD symptoms after I took them down. I've been doing this for the last several years and it really helps. Yes, they are up until the 3rd week of January but my son's Birthday is Jan 27th so it gives me a week to get them down and his birthday planned and ready to go. Works like a charm.

I agree. Midwest winters are gray and gloomy and the daylight hours are too short. Christmas lights are cheerful and please my eye. I wait to pack up my Christmas decor until the sight no longer appeals to me. One year I left it up until July.

I leave my Christmas decorations up until I really feel like taking them down, and then just a few at a time. It never made sense to me to take away the beautiful, soft lighting at the darkest time of the year. My husband and I are retired (and living in Italy) and we just love sitting and enjoying the beauty of Christmas for as long as we can.

I only decorate with one bin of cherished items so it takes me less than 15 minutes to put it away. Also, I make the house winter cozy with blankets and winter pillow covers. Winter magazines and books on the coffee table, and mugs only used in winter but not necessarily Christmas, etc. I get all the winter feelings without the clutter.

Before I retired I would take all my Christmas decor down right after Christmas because that's the only time I had before I went back to work. I continued that for a few years just because it was my habit. This year I'm loving all the decor so much and I realized there's no Christmas decor police that are going to come tell me I have my decorations up too long. LOL so I think I'm leaving up a lot of it till mid-January or whenever the mood strikes me. As another commenter said it's always sad when all the twinkling beautiful stuff comes down. And January is sort of dreary. So I'm giving myself permission to enjoy twinkly lights as long as I wish. Thank you so much for your cheerful channel.

I'm from Germany, in our family we take our tree/decorations down Saturday after 3 Kings' Day (Jan 6). This gives everyone plenty of time to enjoy it. Our bins are labeled: Angels, Gingerbread, Santas, Greenery, Lights, Balls + Ornaments + Ribbons, Nutcrackers, Linens. Needless to say there are multiples of each category. Your 3 year rule would not work for us since we change up our decorations each year and sometimes there are 5 or more years between re-using an item pending who comes to visit or where we are living. BTW Germans do NOT know about that stupid pickle (LOL).
@margareteraab3899

Thank you for putting up your Christmas organizing tips early so we can be ready for when want to I decorate our homes! Also another tip would be to take out the batteries out and store them separate incase the bust or leak. That way they ruin your twinkle lights or other battery operated items.

My mother said Christmas had to be down prior to the New Year. "Can't bring the old year into the new". I'm now 81 and my decorations are less but when I undecorate a tree, I put ornaments in plastic bags. Birds in one, animals, fruit, wood, and glass ornaments in others. Nature theme/partridge! Then I grab each bag and start with the birds and space them around the tree. Same with others. Tree is evenly decorated. Of course put them away the same method. Storage is hard. No garage or attic so they are in plastic bins (not clear) in separate closets. Enjoy your channels. A newbie.

We leave decorations up until about Valentines Day bc winter is dark and dreary and it's so relaxing. I put away santas and reindeer, but not the nativity, snowmen, angels, etc. Then we switch the plugged in tree lights from colored to white (both stay on the tree) and add hearts. flowers, birds. A friend throws a plastic bag over the tree to put in storage, and doesn't bother to remove the decor except for special or fragile items. I can't relate to most people's holiday traditions anymore. Easy way with garlands is pegboard and hooks, I love it. Silk flowers are stored upright in a shelf much like a wine rack- very easy to see and access to use more often. Thanks for all the tips!

Wonderful vid! We're Epiphany people. January 7th it all comes down. Last year I reorganized everything into "likes" and it takes up less room when packed that way. Plus, it allows (forces!) me to be creative when I decorate. All picks in one bucket, all greenery in another, figurines and decor pieces in another, etc. I line up the bins in the dining room and this makes it really fast to pack stuff away. Happy and blessed New Year to you and your family!

Great video and tips! I love the clear bins with locking handles, they work so well! We store most items in our attic, except our older glass ornaments. We live in Texas and it’s just too hot in the attic for fragile glass ornaments so I keep those in ornament storage bins in my craft/guest room closet. Normally we take everything down on New Year’s Day. This year is going to be a bit problematic as my husband seriously injured himself on the 23rd and he normally climbs the attic stairs to put the boxes away and takes down the outside decor. We don’t have easy access or normal stairs to the attic. I suspect I’ll take everything down and just leave the boxes down until he recovers or I can get some help.

I store my Christmas in fabric bins that have zippers on the top and side for easy access. I also store everything in bubble wrap that I buy in bulk from Amazon. This has saved from breakage. I like the tip about the fairy lights on a toilet paper roll! Three years is also a good tip. I pass my stuff down to my daughter. If she doesn’t want it, she has a friend who has a vintage Etsy shop that I can donate to.

First week of January. I enjoy having them up for New Years Eve.

Exactly what i have been doing for years, storing by zone or area. Makes the next year a snap. Thanks for your video

Love your smartly designed attic storage. My holiday storage is the basement. My attic is too hard to access. For large wreaths, I buy an inexpensive shower curtain liner and wrap it around the wreath I store on a hanger. Love the tip about taking photos. That is also a good way to stop acquiring more decor because you can see every surface you have decorated and won’t be tempted to buy more.

Great tips!! I agree, TP rolls are great for light storage, I’ve been using that for years!! 👍
