Ask a Cambodian i cried so hard see the old good days of Cambodia and listening to my grandparents history of khmer past and how they Survived is very painful than putting a hot needle in the chest ( Love Cambodia 🇰🇭✊🫡)
My Grandpa fought for this Cambodia to still be here, but Pol Pot won against him and the other Republican Soldiers, and had to change his name to avoid death. My family lived through the Cambodian Genocide. My Grandpa was to work hard, and he was able to live and have 8 (now 7 due to 1 dying) Boys. Though some of the boys were born in the 1960s or something. My dad was born in 1979, 2 months after the Vietnamese Liberation Rest in Peace Grandpa 1935 - 2021
Cambodia was more prosperous before the outbreak of the Cambodian Civil War from 1967 to 1975, followed by the Cambodian Genocide from 1975 to 1979. It was the Khmer Rouge that plunged the country on a hard turn into the turmoil.
Ben Kiernan, a historian at Yale University and a leading scholar on Cambodia, has estimated that around 500,000 tons of US bombs were dropped on Cambodia between 1969-1973. Khmer Rouge furthur plunged it.
@@Abbott.Mena-GgGg The Khmer? Which Khmer in particular? Let's clarify. The Khmer Rouge dissolved the Khmer Republic during the Cambodian Civil War from 1970 to 1975. The Socialist Republic of Vietnam dissolved the Khmer Rouge during the Cambodian Genocide from 1975 to 1979.

0:37 Sometimes think about how developed Cambodia would have been if not for the khmer rouge and civil war in the 70s. A lot of the country's most cherished singers, musicians and intellectuals were killed, to name one singer who my yaey and thar love to listen to is Sinn Sisamouth.
This is what Cambodia looked like in the 1960s, and it looked and developed quite well. If it weren't for the destruction of the country by the psychopath Kissinger and the bombing of it to the ground, and then the destruction of it by psychopath Pol Pot, Cambodia would be a well-developed, wealthy country today and American were practically as bad as the Khmer Rouge and they also murdered a huge part of Cambodia's population in a short period of time.
The entire elite of the country was killed, only uneducated and incompetent people remained, and Cambodia was pushed back in development by probably 100 years in a few years. Pol Pot wanted to return Cambodia to the Middle Ages and he made no secret of it. He would do a little more and he would actually succeed. Cambodia is still struggling with this problem to this day and will continue to be for a very long time. This dramatically changed the future of Cambodia, changed the country's population and affected the people.
Great video from the good old days, but the consequences of the SEA civil-wars are tearing our country apart and causing many deaths. Regrettably, the new government manipulated the Khmer generation.
USA is about half to blame. Illegal bombing of Cambodia during Nixon era was like fertilizer for Khmer Rouge. Chinese funded the Khmer Rouge though, something a lot of Cambodians seem to have forgotten. China is ruining Cambodia once again in 2024. China is NOT your friend, always remember this!
