Perhaps the vague ending which sets up for future sequels is that the officers took him to Port Island to recieve his sentence. From Scramble, it appears that the Tokyo Police didn't know the truth, the escort is in secret. At best Mitsuru who's keeping track of possible shadow related incidents after the Answer and Naoto extending her investigation field to shadow hunts will decide his fate. It was taken into account Akihiko, Chie and Kurosawa despite being part of the police force, they know better and likely gave some info leaks to Mitsuru and Naoto seen in Arena. Yu and Aigis still ensure that humanity don't stray in the wrong path, as seen in Arena that they still continue their duties as Wild Cards when needed. They might have an idea of the situation due to keeping their mental link to the Velvet Room. Both the P3 and 4 generation know better the co relation between their shadow battles and state of society. Also at least both generations decides to let Akechi live and give him another meaning of life. This was their way to respect the new generation efforts and not wanting another sacrifice after Makoto Yuki stopping the Fall. Also Akechi and Aigis are kind of in the same boat during the main campaign, plus both are way too similar in terms of roles in the updated canon, so they might get along very well. Kind of imagine he awakens the true Wild Card with the real Igor's help, Theodore or Jose(strongly implied) helping him out. Possibly another girl (Charity Arcana) will help in his recovery even further

Kind of shudder the thought of her "executions" to the conspiracy and the corrupt officials as this matches her greatest worries in Arena, in which Naoto also agree due to their trails. Also the surviving SEES might give him some light and hope to continue living, as it was Ren's innermost wish to start over with him. The're the type that will respect the future generations Persona users efforts as seen with Arena, as they respect the Investigation Team and Yu. Aigis possibly be the closest to him since her issues kind of matches his, plus both were way to similar in their roles and attachments towards their loved ones, the protagonists Makoto and Ren. I kind of imagine his true Wild Card awakening is similar to Aigis; before the unexpected battle, having lost his ability to use Persona due to his damaged cognition resulted from Shido's Palace and Maruki's dreamworld, a blue butterfly lands on his hand upon his own lamentation of his life worth due to his sins. The butterfly signal the start of his trail to find himself and a heart to rebel.

@@vanessachowjiaying4423 I mean, I agree, but all of that applies to Nanjo as well. His whole arc in P1/P2 is fighting corruption and letting the new generation take over. I think it's ultimately irrelevant who takes Akechi between the two of them because I'm fairly certain Nanjo is part of the Shadow Operatives, even if the game never says it out loud. One of the silhouettes at the end of Arena is a dead ringer for Nanjo, and Mitsuru's father states in P3 that Kirijo and Nanjo work together because "Two in harmony surpasses one in perfection."

Its very ambiguous if Goro is actually dead or not. The first is the post credit scene, but it's also how Goro acts in the 3rd sem. To consider as well, Maruki could very well be faking that Goro is not real one just to convince Joker. I was hoping this would be covered in P5S... but sadly that did not happen.

Well I'm about 99.9999% Igor didn't exist before Persona 1. A wheelchair-bound man named Stephen did, though. They share the "Wise mentor figure" spot, so they are quite similar. Heck they could be the same person, since it's implied Stephen is a time traveler/dimension hopper! Shin Megami Tensei IT was the precursor to Persona 1. SMT IT I think happened in a timeline where Tokyo wasn't nuked by America like it was in SMT 1. Tokyo being nuked resulted in WW3, Demons invaded and humanity barely survived. Basically, Shin Megami Tensei is what happened to Japan in the Fallout universe. But in the Persona Timeline, I assume politics were involved, a peaceful and diplomatic solution was found and that brought a change in cognition to the entire world. YWWH (However it's spelled) and Lucifer were basically weakened severely if not outright deleted because the majority of humanity were capable of living without the need for absolute law or freedom. I don't remember where I heard this, but YWWH was the collective desire for safety and order (Which results in stagnation of thought) and Lucifer was the collective desire for freedom and choice (Which results in a bloodbath of anarchy) so neither were really good. Some things clearly haven't changed, but the Persona timeline is a much nicer timeline since you don't have to worry about radiation poison or demons most of the time.

Also the Arcana pattern made it obvious that 1 more girl (Charity Arcana) will be added and possibly another male adult Persona user like Maruki and Zenkichi with Arcana outside the standard tarot deck. It's also shown in both Royal and Scramble that there's a possibility of more cognition researchers, or worse repeating a similar kind of event and dragging the masses in brainwashed state as part of their motives of a utopia. The events in P5 gen kind of matches Mitsuru and Naoto's worries in Arena duology, so it can be assumed both got some information leaks from Akihiko, Kurosawa and Chie, plus an extermely high Shadow reading in Tokyo like in Inaba during P4 battle back in Dec 2011. Best guess Akechi is taken to Port Island to recieve his sentence, at least the Shadow Operatives decides his fate as he kind of matches the worst outcomes they predicted back in Arena. Got a feeling the operatives decides to give Akechi a new life, since he died once and it will be offensive by moral standards not to give him a second chance, which is also Ren's innermost wish and respecting the new generation efforts. The P3 and 4 gen knows better the co-relation of society's state and the shadow battles they went through experience; Dark Hour caused by Kirijo Group researchers folly and Inaba Fog all started by Namatame's scandal. I imagine his pre true Wild Card awakening is similar to Aigis; before the unexpected battle under the Kirijo Group custody, a blue butterfly appears and lands itself on Akechi's hand. Akechi's curiosity somehow results in him hearing a voice (his assigned attendant, either Theodore or Jose{strongly hinted}) from the butterfly, asking if he wants to change his fate. The butterfly vanishes, leaving him the true physical Velvet Room key and unknowingly an Arcana change, resulting in Hereward temporary sealed. This was taken into account that both Akechi and Aigis are the deuteragonists of the new canon, so kind of assume he will have the same treatment as her of having a self centered story.

@@starbound100 like the guy above me stated that might not be the case for the persona series as different arcanas for different type of tarot decks exist at the same time there a 2 good examples of this aegis is the aeon of p3 which is part of the Thoth tarot deck while its equivalent, arcana "Judgement" from the Rider Waite deck is the S.E.E.S team as a whole, another one is adachi(hunger/lust arcana from Thoth) and its equivalent the sports club(strength arcana from Rider-Waite) . We also have cases like Kasumi which came from the Visconti-Sforza tarot deck. So by this cases its safe to assume the universe arcana is its own thing and P3MC is the only protag who got it which is probably way stronger than the World arcana and he probably needed/deserved it as he "defeated" not a false god but the concept of death itself Edit:note that he didn't technically defeated nyx, just sealed it.

Another thing that skewed my informations is that english is not my first language, and I conducted my research in Italian, wich is my first language. This brought me to "our" traditional tarots, where "il mondo" (the world) e "l'universo" (the universe) mean the same thing, and it's just a regional thing where one is the equivalent of the other. That said, given the new information that the arcanas actually come from different decks sometimes, then yes, anything could go. late response, but the whole point of the phantom thieves is to fight and give everyone the confidence to fight as well. joker also believes things aren’t meant to be this way. actually, most of the compliments for maruki’s palace i’ve seen are saying how instead of it being an outright evil person, he has a good argument.

He’s the bad guy (makes more sense to say antagonist actually because his intentions are good but the impact of those intentions are bad) because while he means well and wants what he thinks (emphasis on thinks) is the best for everyone, he still takes away their free will, and in doing so takes away their ability to make their own decisions and choices in their lives. Also, there’s no guarantee that Maruki would always be able to control his power. It’s very likely he would eventually become corrupted and nothing more than a vessel/conduit for Adam Khadmon to enact its will on reality, in the same way that Yaldabaoth did.

Imagine if your mother choose your clothes , your girlfriend and your career path because she thought that are the best for you. You will feel happy because those are actually the best because you just follow whatever she said and she give you the best for you. But deep inside, what you will feel? Exactly.
