After Hours and The King of Comedy are up there with the best of Scorsese's work as far as I'm concerned.

To me "After hours" is a mix of "the tenant", ''Possession'' and "blow up" and if you liked "After hours", then you'll probably like them too.

Agreed, this film was definitely ahead of its time. I saw it for the first time around 1987 when I was in college… Among my friends it was a pretty big cult favorite. Just recently bought it on DVD after not having seen it for many years… It still holds up. Definitely see it if you have not. It has a definitive feeling to it and agreed, again, that I can see the connection to the Cohen Bros.… Love their films as well. I’ve never put that together but yes I can see it.

The "Joe Minion" mystery (as to why he never bested After Hours) might have to do with the fact that he plagiarized significant parts of it. You can look it up. 😉

One of my all time favorite films. In the diner, Paul is reading Tropic of Cancer by Henry Miller, and I had to go read that right away. And in a way I can't explain, the movie made a little more sense😅

Nicely done review *Thanks* For decades recommended "After Hours", no reactions. Now finally there's a gackle :) of reviews. Like your showing the black & white pattern on the pillow and eslewhere. Combined with Kubrick's red color kinda ties the movies together somehow. Around the middle 80s some good movies with a dark comedy theme came out similiar to "After Hours", John Demme's "Something Wild", Vincent Ward's "The Navigator", even Alex Proyas' 1998 "Dark City"*. Alex Dagur's 2009 "The Good Heart" has that black & white film noir feel. * when the main character asks the detective "... ever notice its always dark here ... " thought that was a humorous jab at the film itself (especially since it influenced the Matrix series).

Was just gonna say the same. Vampire's kiss is a way better movie than After Hours imho. A great critique of corporate psychopathy akin to but somehow even more absurd than american psycho. Cage's performance is very meticulously crafted as a love letter to german expressionism. Every time I watch the movie I find a different detail to love. Knowing they are from the same author made me want to watch after hours again

The music the acting the photography the editing the themes. It's just a quality film in general. Lynch's films just look bad. Again, not Eraserhead. I really like it. It feels like an art film. It's just his later work...

@@FallopiumFilms I respect that but twin peaks is such a beautiful piece. I think it really captures the love of things and the perversion of its extremes. And in the return, the pursuit of nostalgia reopening wounds. It’s so human and that gives it beauty. Especially Fire Walk With Me. At the end art is subjective but like you should give it another look bc it’s his best work in my opinion.
