Months after Oregon State Rep. E. Werner Reschke said that atheists and Muslims shouldn’t hold public office, he’s been absolved of any wrongdoing by a State House committee.
It’s an absurd decision that rewards bigotry in the name of Jesus.

Yep. I prefer atheists because they tend to be far more moral and altruistic than the religious. "The Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion." - Treaty of Tripoli, Signed by President John Adams on July 4, 1805 “How many observe Christ’s birthday! How few his precepts!” - Benjamin Franklin “The divinity of Jesus Christ is made a convenient cover for absurdity.” - John Adams “The Bible is not my book nor Christianity my profession.” - Abraham Lincoln “Every other religious sect supposes itself in possession of all truth, and that those who differ are so far in the wrong; like a man traveling in foggy weather, those at some distance before him on the road he sees wrapped in fog, as well as those behind him, and those in the fields on each side, but near him all appears clear, tho’ in truth he is as much in the fog as any of them.” - Benjamin Franklin “May it not suffice for me to say…that of course, like every other man of intelligence and education, I do believe in organic evolution. It surprises me that at this late date such questions are still raised.” - Woodrow Wilson “The world is my country; to do good my religion.” - Thomas Paine “Who does not see that the same authority which can establish Christianity, in exclusion of all other religions, may establish with the same ease any particular sect of Christians, in exclusion of all other sects?” - James Madison “Question with boldness even the existence of a god; because, if there be one, he must more approve of the homage of reason, than that of blindfolded fear.” - Thomas Jefferson “Lighthouses are more helpful than churches.” - Benjamin Franklin “This story of the redemption will not stand examination. That man should redeem himself from the sin of eating an apple by committing the murder of Jesus Christ is the strangest system of religion ever set up.” - Thomas Paine “I have seldom met an intelligent person whose views were not narrowed and distorted by religion.” - James Buchanan “The way to see by faith is to shut the eye of reason.” -Benjamin Franklin “As to the book called the Bible, it is blasphemy to call it the word of God. It is a book of lies and contradictions, and a history of bad times and bad men. There are but a few good characters in the whole book.” - Thomas Paine “I believe in the equality of man; and I believe that religious duties consist in doing justice, loving mercy, and endeavoring to make our fellow-creatures happy.” - Thomas Paine “One good schoolmaster is of more use than a hundred priests.” - Thomas Paine “Accustom a people to believe that priests, or any other class of men, can forgive sins, and you will have sins in abundance.” - Thomas Paine “All national institutions of churches, whether Jewish, Christian or Turkish, appear to me no other than human inventions, set up to terrify and enslave mankind and monopolize power and profit.” - Thomas Paine “My earlier views of the unsoundness of the Christian scheme of salvation and human origin of the scriptures have become clearer and stronger with advancing years, and I see no reason for thinking I shall ever change them.” - Abraham Lincoln

Well "open Athiest" Because I doubt all the "Christian" politicians actually believe half the bullcrap they say pandering to the Religious. And beyond being an open Atheist I wouldn't care. The Founding Fathers deemed *ALL* religions unfit for modern, civil governance. The *1st Amendment's Establishment Clause* prohibits the government from making any law, _“respecting an establishment of religion.”_ This clause not only forbids the government from establishing an official religion, but also prohibits government actions that unduly favor one religion over another. It also prohibits the government from unduly preferring religion over non-religion. *Constitution Article VI Supreme Law - Clause 3 Oaths of Office* _"The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the Members of the several State Legislatures, and all executive and judicial Officers, both of the United States and of the several States, shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation, to support this Constitution; _*_but no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States."_* This means nobody is ever required to swear to a god or on the Bible, or any other religious book for an oath of office. They may choose a god or religious book, but none is required. Thomas Jefferson and Calvin Coolidge did not use a Bible in their oath-taking ceremonies. Theodore Roosevelt did not use the Bible when taking the oath in 1901, nor did John Quincy Adams, who swore on a book of law, with the intention that he was swearing on the constitution. _"In this enlightened age and in this land of equal liberty, _*_it is our boast,_*_ that a man's religious tenets will not forfeit the protection of the laws, nor deprive him of the right of attaining and holding the highest offices that are known in the United States."_ *-George Washington* (To the Members of the New Jerusalem Church of Baltimore, 27 January 1793) _“The United States is not a Christian nation any more than it is a Jewish or Mohammedan Nation.”_ *- John Adams* (American statesman, attorney, diplomat, writer, Founding Father & 2nd president) _“...the government of the United States of America is not in any sense founded on the Christian Religion."_ *-Treaty of Tripoli - June 7, 1797. As such, it is a "legislated text" which must be read "textually". The lower courts in this case read a hypothetical legislative intention into the text by dismissing Article 11 as "a mere formality". The language itself makes a clear direct statement that _*_our government is not based on the Christian religion and any attempt by a government official to represent our government as Christian contradicts the text and the historical understanding of our founders."_* _"Who does not see that the same authority which can establish Christianity, in exclusion of all other Religions, may establish with the same ease any particular sect of Christians, in exclusion of all other Sects?"_ *- James Madison 4th president* (A Memorial And Remonstrance, On The Religious Rights Of Man: Written In 1784-85)

@RyanHall-ch7myI don’t need to read the entire works of Asimov to understand that it’s fiction.
@richardowens9061
@richardowens9061 Месяц назад
@RyanHall-ch7my This is pretty simple: Any God worthy of the title who had anything to say to us would say it to all of us and he would say it in such a way that we would all know it was him - no books or spokespeople necessary. Furthermore, any God worthy of the title would create the Universe in such a way as to not require his intervention or maintenance. So, there are two possibilities, here: 1 - Either there is a God who created a Universe that does not need him. or, 2 - There is no God who created the Universe. Interestingly enough, it is impossible to discern the difference between 1 and 2, above. What that means is, whether God exists or not, he is irrelevant.
@richardowens9061
@richardowens9061 Месяц назад
@RyanHall-ch7my It does not matter whether Jesus ever existed, or not, and here's why: If Jesus existed as a real person, all we have left of him are the words and events ascribed to him by others. And, if Jesus never existed as a real person, all we have left of him are the words and events ascribed to him by others. See? No difference. So, what matters are the teachings of Jesus and whether, or not, they have application in our lives. And, each of us can determine that for ourselves.
@richardowens9061
@richardowens9061 Месяц назад
@RyanHall-ch7my There is a lot to unpack there, but here goes: 1 - No God worthy of the title would want for anything, least of all would he want us to believe in him or worship him. Wanting us to believe in him or worship him would be an expression of ego. And, ego is an expression of insecurity. 2 - There is no greater arrogance in the Universe than to pretend to speak for God - except,, maybe, to pretend that the impotent pleadings known as prayers might influence him. 3 - Belief is not evidence of the existence of anything, least of all is it evidence of the existence of a God worthy of the title. 4 - The need for miracles from God implies that he, somehow, made mistakes that he must correct by violating the very laws he put into place to govern the Universe that he created. Furthermore, to believe in miracles from God expresses a lack of faith in God's ability to create a Universe that needs no miracles to correct his own mistakes - because, he would not make any. 5 - Pretending that we need a relationship with God is playing a game with God - a childish game that reveals an ignorance about who and what God might be. 6 - You do not speak for Jesus any more than you speak for God - and, neither do the authors of the Bible or those who edited it hundreds of years before you ever encountered it. Any other arguments for God that you would like me to tear down for you?
@richardowens9061
@richardowens9061 Месяц назад
@RyanHall-ch7my There are no concepts of moral value to be found in the Bible that did not exist for thousands of years before the Bible ever came into existence. Furthermore, humans are a collective species. We depend on each other for our individual and collective survival and well being. And, morality is an evolved survival mechanism. It is what allows us to function in collectives for our survival and well being. If we were a lone predatory species, like sharks, we would have no comprehension of or need for morality. And, there is no moral value in the idea of resurrection. It serves no moral purpose, whatsoever. It is merely embelishment and part of a deception intended to coerce belief and serve as a test for belief - because, if you believe in the resurrection, the indoctrination is complete. And, literally billions of dead people over the course of the history of mankind who never come back to life is compelling evidence that resurrection is not possible. And, if there is a God, it is clear that death was part of his plan, and not resurrection.

The Founding Fathers deemed *ALL* religions unfit for modern, civil governance.

For a religion that values truth, virginity, and the good book, they might want to pick up another book and learn about definitions.

The vast majority of conservative Christians in public offices around the country don't follow anything Jesus teaches. They follow things out of the old testament, which is Jewish laws not Christian ones. Why I call those people pseudo Jews. They're not Christians at all.

If anyone identifies as a religion , out of PUBLIC office. Public office is for ALL people, not ones that support only their own and against all others. Atheists would be the best cuz not playing favorites.
