After sitting for 20 years it was time to wash the fungus off the Peterbilt 359 

Good idea leaving it as a logger. The truck was new that way and it looks so good to do anything different. Get the running issued fixed, start dealing with all the mechanical parts, hoses and what not. Get it road worthy, then focus on the paint issues. Then move to interior issues. You will have an amazing truck.

Mike, your dad is a wealth of knowledge and experience. Take some advice from me, enjoy every minute of being in his presence because one day, he won't be there. If I recall correctly, you did a DIY rebuild of the engine in Duke and it runs great. That should tell you something about your capabilities. The 359 looks a lot better after its bath. I know that blue is not a favorite color of yours, but that's a sharp looking blue paint scheme on the 359. I think your plan of keeping it as a logger is a great idea, keep it as original as possible. Just in case there are no more videos between now and Christmas, I will now wish you and your family a very merry Christmas

Very happy to see your dad put a nice proper frame cap on the rear of Stubby. I understand the Dayton wheels can be very tough to get off sometimes but have never dealt with them myself.

Lookin good Mike. I'm glad you are keeping the paint scheme and making it a long logger. It reminds me of my youth. I was born in 1961 and grew up in the woods. My grandfather bought his first log truck in 1935. He started teaching me how to drive his log truck when I was 9 years old. I retired early after 40 years of driving truck. Personally I've never cared for the Dayton wheels, but it will give it a totally different vibe

Love the look of Grampa Pete after his bath. Hey, plenty of torque on those old A Model 3406 Cats. Depending on Injectors and Turbo combo's you can go from a Road Truck to a Dragster in pretty short order. Not too uncommon to see them last well over 2 million mies before inframing them [rolling in some new bearings yada yada]. Thing with the newer Models, is they may have more Horses and Torque to start but the way the blocks are designed they corrode the liners because of the water jacket design and yada yada... sure you've heard all the different angles by now lol I love those old Cats though. The guys who do the sled pulls seem to look for the B blocks with the next gen of mechanical lift pumps for timing and tuning without having to plug them into the apps on the computers and such. Very popular with the Pull crowd are the older 3406 and 3408 with long nose like that one ol2stroker got last year... dang eh? Just DANG! lol He's thinking of selling that motor so he can stay true to his Detroit only way of doing things... guys and their brands eh? I do like the sound of the Screamin' Jimmy's but prefer the low frequeency growl of the old Earth shaking Cats... Cummins... m'ya not so much but they okay to get you between cats I guess lmao

Id drain and blow out every bit of fuel from the lift pump forward, then hook up a 5 gallon container of new fuel and additives and see if you can get it to idle right and hold fuel pressure. If that works out, I would get a pair of aluminum tanks, then get the air compressor building air(see how easy it is to spend other peoples money?), then just maintain her until good weather. Hope you all enjoy the hollidays. My grand kids and I are rebuilding an old 1972 NTA 370 Cummins for an old Freightliner over holliday weekend. Bill

I really do like the colors and the paint scheme. I’d fix the back of the cab and find a nice used heavy oil field headache rack with a big Tulsa wench and a heavy oil field front bumper.

Old style logger, try to find an old steel headache logger's rack that your pole trailer rested in. Get the 4×6 from Twin Sticks but most of all fix the Cat.

for the moss on the paint work brillo pad with soap in it take a look at Vice Grip Garage the paint on the cab is sweet and the dark blue is nice

Find a cover for the 359 for the truck to keep the moisture out and save it getting into the rust holes in the roof .

I like the idea of keeping it as a Logger, Makes it kinda a tribute to your dad and his years of logging. Would be great if you can deal Mark out of the old diffs out of Iron Duke. Since they were a Torsion Bar suspension hopefully they are the same series Axles. ie:SQHD, SQDD etc.

It's a very cool truck, glad your not going to paint it. I know you're not a fan of blue but with Duke and K2 the 359 fits in with your fleet/collection nicely. Hopefully it won't be too difficult to get running and driving. Interior may clean up as well as the exterior. Have a great Christmas 🎄

Hey Mike! I just had an idea for a new name for Stubby. How about Stretch Stubbs? That way you could call him either one. By the way, the drivers windshield frame on Duke needs a little touch up with some white paint. It sticks out to me like a wart on Dolly Parton's nose.😄 He's too good looking to have a black eye. I believe Dad about that drill! I have an all metal case Craftsman like it from the 60's that I tagged "the Widow Maker." Wishing you and the family a Merry Christmas my friend!

Steel tanks are ok hut you have to keep your tanks full to reduce the amount of air in the tank and thus reduce condensation which causes the rust. In GB our trucks used to top the tanks every day when theybreturned to the yard. I would keep it as it is with that paint scheme. For now, get it running and just sit and look at it with a drink inmyour hand.

I use diesel clean additive for years. In my experience, it will increase the fuel economy 0.1 miles per gallon per fill up. Cleans the injectors and improves fuel economy under real world conditions.

I think you can safely carry on using the steel tanks with diesel fuel. My '54 landrover has had a steel fuel tank and a Diesel engine since '58. never a hint of rust induced pump problems. Same goes for any diesel engined farm tractor I have ever had. Pump problems? Sure every now and then, but mostly due to high hours/miles, or from other forms of fuel problems such as advanced age, never from a steel tank. Most farm bulk storage diesel tanks are (or were) steel.

Mike,great idea to leave it as a logger,watching your channel as many do,try to get it back together with your viewers help finding the parts needed,clean useable truck,saved for the future,but me I would not leave the engine as a cat a ,low torque,just starting,power when new was lacking,a cat b is a much better fit,power ,economy,starting,it should be a straight swop,you could run higher gears in the diffs,I’m a thinking you might find 2 cat b,s to build 1 descent engine,but whatever you do we will enjoy you and your dad working together,merry Christmas you and all your viewers,best wishes for 2024 ,

359 looking sharp Mike, I would paint the wheel centers dark blue and aluminum outer rings , aluminum tanks, body work and have paint blended in, paint frame dark blue, polish and rechrome as needed. Last I would remove slider and put a metal frame and wood plank insert flat bed on it and tie the light blue Into the flat bed. Keep the same design front bumper.
