Growing up, movies and television played a part in shaping how I perceived the world, and what I imagined my future would look like. I wrote this song about what happens when that fantasy ends.
My album is out everywhere now!! You can listen to this song and 7 others on all streaming platforms here: emmahamel.com/...
Lyrics:
I thought it’d feel different
I guess I’m naive
Just give me to time
To learn my lines
And was it deliberate
To make me believe
The tales you told
The dreams I’d hold
They made it look so wonderful
How could I be so gullible
To buy every line with heavy hopes and eager eyes
I’d swallow all the novelty
Thought happy endings were for me
Out in the open air where nothing’s easy and nothing’s fair
Life still carries on
After the credits roll
Sadness looks stunning
On a 30-foot screen
They’ll find their way
Their part to play
So have I done nothing?
Cause now I’m 19
And I haven’t lived
The way they did
They made it look so wonderful
How could I be so gullible
To buy every line with heavy hopes and eager eyes
I’d swallow all the novelty
Thought happy endings were for me
Out in the open air where nothing’s easy and nothing’s fair
Life still carries on
After the credits roll
Life has no intermission
One showing, free admission
Dreams don’t come true the more you fantasize
They made it look so easy
This isn’t like the movies
The spell is broken when I step outside
And when the lights come on I
Don’t want to open my eyes
Cause for a moment I felt so alive
They made it look so wonderful
How could I be so gullible
To buy every line with heavy hopes and eager eyes
I’d swallow all the novelty
Thought happy endings were for me
Out in the open air where nothing’s easy and nothing’s fair
Life still carries on
After the credits roll
