I'm a Celestia and Vegeta fan. WHERE DOES THAT PUT ME?! Yes, the Solar Empire appreciates your words, but Celestia is best princess, and we will fight you on this.
DRWolf001 "You can't rush art", and this phrase certainly comes to life in Silver Quill's works when he chose to take his time with them. a little delayed in comparison to some videos made the same day as the episode, but done well. (Not to say first thoughts videos like yours are bad DrWolf, just a different niche being filled there.)
DRWolf001 i got a question: was there ever any moment where u got mad at something? in your videos u sound so calm and collected. at some point its kinda relaxing, but on the other hand i am curious how u sound when u r mad at something.
***** . I think the good DRWolf, while ahem, * human* like the rest of us, takes a page from princess Celestia's book metaphorically. Even if something does bother him, my guess is that he assumes mastery of his rage or other emotion of upset-ness and not the other way around. Though I doubt he has reached a state of zen rivaling Celestia or even real life masters of such arts, it still boils down to discipline, meditation/reflection and constant practice. To be honest, Drwolf isn't the only one in the RU-vid brony community that aims for such levelheadedness. This is also what drew me in to following Brawny Buck's channel as well, though he has a different style and has broken composure for the sake of comedic effect once or twice in his early videos. I've even stated in the past that they are my top two favorite channels to follow. (But you're pretty good too Silver Quill)
I actually think that Celestia is that kind BECAUSE of her seemingly immortality. She has seen ponies and friends come and go, and yet as you say she is still soft and kind. And to every galla we have seen, she always invites some certain ponies because she knows that they would live up the party and even then with all her little jokes and tricks, it's all the show the ponie around her that time is to be enjoyed. Live in the moment. And I also think why Celestia isn't as "imortality is a curse" as much other characters with that trait, is exactly for that reason, she tries to have fun whenever she can but can also stand firm and play the role of a wise leader when dilemmas come up.
Recently, I realized our perception of Celestia as an all-powerful omni-benevolent immortal Sun goddess is our own misconceptions of her due to portrayals of other Sun-controllers as dieties in other media. In truth she is very much like what Silver Quill said, a magically-gifted mature ruler with longevity, yet is still a normal pony at heart. Also, I believe Celestia's prophetic dreams are imperfect, she may get glimpses of future events occasionally but most of the time she has to rely on her own ingenuity & resourcefulness to solve a crisis when it happens.
I see Celestia as someone who is obligated to put on the mask of perfection. She has to act as a kind and benevolent monarch to all the subjects she is responsible for, but that doesn't mean she doesn't have flaws underneath.
Actually, I think Celestia's plan with Tirek had more to do with Discord than Tirek himself. While it is true that the Princesses could have taken down Tirek on his own, Discord being in play meant that they could not face him in a straight fight. Discord can take their horns. No horns means no using magic to stop Tirek from devouring them. They knew Discord would not provide Tirek with valuable information until Tirek asked him directly about it. After all, Discord had always been shown to hold back valuable information to those he considered his allies. The only issue that I have with Celestia's plan is that a hammer through the window would have slowed Tirek down much further.
I like to compare Twilight's and Celestia's relationship to that of Harry Potter and Dumbledore. While Twilight is young, and still has a lot to learn, she (and subsequently we) see Celestia as this all-powerful being, who has the answers to everything. As Twilight matures, and learns her lessons, Celestia is revelaed to be a mighty pony, but still "just" a pony. She is smart, she plans ahead, she has a pretty good idea of what must be done in order to groom Twilight into her role as a princess, but we also see her weaknesses and flaws, through Twilight's eyes.
cannedcream Possibly in her occupation days? She leads an army, and she had to have expanded her borders at some point, and we know she's a capable fighter, so maybe seeing her fight in her prime? That'd be neat. And maybe coming to terms with the fact that, while war is inevitable, she as a ruler can still be kind, and learn to be a lover more than a fighter.
That opening was hilarious. :) Momlestia is the Celestia I think is most accurate, given her and Twilight's relationship. Also, Big Sis Sunbutt Celestia, to Little Sis Moontush. That ending was funny too. :)
Celestia is a cool character. It is interesting to have a white alicorn pony to have power over the sun. Celestia and Luna have great interaction in the episode "A Royal Problem". Celestia has an extraverted personality. She spends a lot of time interacting with er subjects. She works with whole big crowds of them. There is a lot of politics and social events. The extravert is very open to the real world outside the body. Their is a lot of interaction with other people. It is like how the sun shines light onto the world.
Otaku Princess Yes, because Philomena thought it would be funny to fake her death. Which just shows Philomena is a sociopath. Celestia's reaction was to tell Philomena to apologize.
rpggriffin "Celestia GENUINELY brought a dying phoenix to a party, ignored it's obviously ill health" Well. It's a fucking phoenix. It's health-status matters very little as it is practically immortal. It gets more sick? It dies and gets reborn as a healthy little phoenix chick. I can totally see the problem there. Also in episode 100 Celestia is shown to be forgetful at times, so that can easily be excused on that part and Celestia didn't really make the choice that Fluttershy practically STOLE the royal pet.
Otaku Princess well, either that or she thought Luna would tke care of the wedding gift, making it a simple "lack of communication" problem. i mean, Luna took care of the present for Cadence and Shining Armor, so i guess it was her to take care of presents before the Nightmare Moon thing and Celestia thought Luna would take this part again, since she already kinda did. but i also dont think Celestia wanted to teach Fluttershy a lesson. i think she thought Fluttershy would know Celestia has a pet pheonix, since reasons, or at least be able to identify one, since Fluttershy is an animal expert.
honestly after I learned about the whole Trollestia thing I always had trouble really respecting Celestia. I wanted to, but I could never get the idea of her as the fandom portrays her out of my head. But this video helps me understand her more and finally be able to think of her in a good light! :D
Celestia vs Vegeta Death Battle Now!! Yea Treehugger was going to be thrown into another dimension but I bet Celestia would be able to get her back. I mean we've seen her go into another plain of existence in Magical Mystery Cure so another dimension would be easy for her. Oh and I'm putting this out right now, I think Silver Quill is indestructible. He's been crushed, blown up, burned, skewered, fallen from a high distance on his head, shot, neck snapped, poisoned(Alcohol), avoided death as a pony and has even survived the Equestria Girls universe. He is indestructible!!
Redcord CHN Alternate universes and alternate planes of existence are two different definitions of the word "dimension"... She'd need to know how to work the mirror right, and that's probably something Starswirl took with him to his grave.
You know, I always believed that the queen Serenity from Sailor Moon was a secret inspiration for Celestia. They are ridiculously alike in appearance, power, and behavior. And much like Serenity, I view Celestia as a sort of champion of the light, not a goddess. The show has proven to us many times that alicorns are just powerful and exceptional ponies, nothing beyond. And that's a good thing. Nobody likes deus ex machina solutions, except when there is no other way.
Now that I think about this "perfect princess" more, I've noticed that Celestia does have a pretty sadistic side to her whenever it comes to the Grand Galloping Gala. She was able stay calm in the first one, and practically wrote the plot for the trouble in the second one. (Inviting an easily jealous Discord is something I would've really had to think about!). Heaven knows what's going to happen at the next Gala! ...Actually, I would really like a list of all the things wrong that happened in Celestia's past Galas. 1000 years of life means 1000 things to go wrong at an annual party!
Thankyou SilverQuill this is why your best griffin :) someone who is looking carefully at the character and not just dogmatic shouting she's a troll and forever will always be ~_~ I'm really hoping celestia gets her own episode in season 5 fingers are cross
RubberyCat my griffon OC is half raven half black panther. he kinda lives in the old castle in the Everfree Forest with a bunch of ravens. btw he can communicate to ravens since he is part raven. and i chose raven because of the song Ravenhead by Orden Ogan. just listen and ravens may become your new fav birds. well, either that or the fact that Odin has two ravens as companions. i mean, he is a god, so he has to know what is the best bird :) anyway, did u know that ravens can learn pretty fast and even teach their children what they learned? not only their children, but every other raven they meet. pretty awesome if u ask me.
In Friends Forever Celestia+Spike, they try to explain why she seems to 'avoid' certain situations and 'delegate' all the trouble to Twilight and Co. . I kinda like that idea (with some additional work tho)
Celestia in the comic did have the part where ahe kepylt going through the mirror for that alternate world where Tirek was nice and Luna never turned evil and.... While others hate that comic, I couldn't help but feel sad for Celestia when the mirror was broken to stop her from visiting it... That said I still laughed when you tied her up in another video XD
He is right. Abandoning "Godlestia" while still respecting the sun princess has been very veeeryyyyy difficult for the fandom. But I am glad the show took such a route. Which gives me an excuse for this question: Do you think Mayor Mare's power to pronounce people (ponies, donkeys, whatever) married is secular in nature?
They don't want to add religion to a world populated by magical flying ponies. It would make their world much much more complicated than it needs to be.
Even though this is a year old video, since it was linked on EQD and I watched it again, something dawned on me. Celestia's Phoenix pet. It makes sense she would want a pet that can rebirth itself. It's the one creature she will never have to part ways with.
I've always been more of a Luna fan and never really paid to much attention to Celestia, but that changed when she revealed that she purposely invited Discord to the Gala knowing he'd probably cause some chaos and therefore make the party more entertaining for her.....for me that was awesome and I'm starting to enjoy her sense of humor. Also Silver pointed out a lot of things about Celestia that I never actually thought about that really helps me appreciate her character even more :)
Bless you for doing a Celestia appreciation post! I wish more people would look at her good sides instead of insisting she's evil or a jerk or all sorts of other things that really aren't at all supported by how she acts in the show. I like her as the mature, loving princess who has used her longevity to appreciate life, who still makes mistakes but admits and learns from them, and who is a caring older sister and mentor. I think you established that very well, great job! =)
So, in the midst of all the DBZ fans.... Woohoo! A Babylon 5 reference! I'm not the only one anymore who still loves that show! Seriously though, B5 introduced me to what immortality might do to a person. Given that, I'm amazed Celestia has done as well as she has.
PhantomSkitty B5 was my first Fandom-level show. I'd watched Star Trek:TNG before, and enjoyed it, but nothing got me yelling at my TV like B5 did. In cheers and agony.
Hey, Silver! Thanks for doing this. Celestia is still my favorite character, and you defended her better than I could have ever asked. Without being able to step inside the heads of the writers, I can only guess that they write the show as the adventures of Twilight and Friends, thus often making it hard to write for other characters if you don't see them as equally important or more than just 1-dimensional. At this point, I think Celestia really needs to reinvent herself or, as you say, have a moment to shine on her own. Luna has been trying to do that by becoming the princess who helps ponies out in their dreams. Clearly, she is still trying to take an active role as one of the leaders of Equestria; she hasn't given up just yet. And we don't need much for Celestia, something simple yet active would work equally as well, something more than just doing the average politician work. Until then, the headcanons and wild theories will continue running rampant. I'm really hoping she isn't slowly letting herself fade away so that Twilight can take over all of Equestria some day. I've heard it was something Lauren Faust was planning, Twilight has been more of a "hooves-on" princess when it comes to helping the kingdom out with its troubles. One could almost say that she is doing all the things Celestia tried to do during her reign, and that by comparison Celestia is purposely stepping back and letting her own performance drop. But again, that's just a wild theory.
Ok Silver I don't know how you got the Prince of Doom and Gloom plus the Princess of Sunshine and lady bugs together in one place but God bless ya for doing so. Once again my respects and admiration sir.
I agree, "A day in the life of a Princess" would be an awesome episode. A few minuets with Celestia, something with Luna, and it would be hilariously cool if they confirmed your theory on Cadence being an adrenaline junkie.
I misread the title as "After the Fact: Celestia`s Celebration" and being a few weeks behind on the new season assumed this was about an episode with that title. "Egads!" I said to myself "Could this be an episode focusing on Celestia! Perhaps on her birthday!" Imagine my disappointment when I did not find this title on the list of MLP episodes and realized my mistake "Damn you Silver Quill! I blame you for my inability to accurately interpret words you have typed correctly!!! You should be ashamed of yourself...!" That said, I did enjoy the video as usual. Bravo on being so awesome.
princess celestia is bestia! looking forward to episode 100th. cant keep dodging Peel Off,you must do nanalysist battle and settle this feud once and for all! =)
This episode has reminded me of one of my semi-head cannon (I say semi, because by all accounts it should be true no matter what), in that Nightmare Night was probably the hardest night of Celestia's life. While for some ponies, it was a holiday, celebrating fear, for Celestia, it was most likely a day of mourning the loss of her sister. This happened for 999 years, the 1000 summer sun celebration finally allowing her to be with her sister on that holiday. Imagine having to live with that. I, for one, adore Celestia's perseverance, and the fact that even after all she's been though, she still has fun sometimes. I admire that, and I feel others should, too.
I would whole-heartingly welcome an episode that would divulge more into Celestia's psyche, as well as the pangs of longevity. Kids are a lot smarter than we realize, and I think an episode dedicated towards Celestia's long life before the Mane Six would be an excellent medium to showing the coping of loss and the promise of renewal. "Tanks for the Memories" touched up on it, but I think it would give Celestia a lot more 3-dimension if we had an episode dedicated to her looking less like a Divine Being, and more like, as Silver-Quill put it, a struggling experienced mare trying to keep her world in check. :)
One thing I always liked to add is that Celestia is capable of tremendous rage and violence if someone threatens her ponies. Like a mother would do with her children.
Personally, I enjoyed this and your video about The Cakes the most out of all you've done! I'd love to see more character analysis videos from you (if you're so inspired, of course!) :)
The journal of the 2 sisters gives some great background info on both princesses, including their coronation, building their castle, past friendships, and even earning their cutie marks! Did you know that Princess Platinum actually called them blank flanks?
I can't believe I just now noticed that we have yet to see a single Celestia episode. Oh goodness, now I'm itching for one. Please let it happen Hasbro!!
ERMAGERD THERNK YER. As a princess fanboy, I am saddened when I see people bashing Celestia. I will admit that there have been some... questionable things that she's done in the show, but overall I think it's just a matter of her being a real* pony with real* issues. I would make a list of Celestia stuff, but I honestly don't even know where to begin. There's a lot of things like her decision to send the main six the make the dragon move, but, as you said in the video, things like that can be explained by the fact that she has prophetic dreams and whatnot. I mean, she is an immortal alicorn moving the sun (however that works), so I would hope that she would put at least a little thought into her decisions. In any case, thanks for not making another Celestia- hate video.
Haha, great Video once again Silver Quill! :D Since the latest Episodes of Season 5, Celestia has become my favorite of the princesses. With the two small cameos this season, the writers have made her feel much more like a character than this flawless Goddess she represented back in season 1. So this video was like, perfect timing for me :D
Celestia tends to suffer as a character because of her position as a divine ruler, so I also hope we get to see more of her. Her nature and backstory give her potential to be very interesting, if only we let her shine.
I would've never thought that. Adding that Celestia plans things accordingly to get the outcome that she saw. Genius. Though I am a Luna fan myself, I still see Celestia as someone (or somepony) as a person who gives off a sort a vibe of respect. I don't know how to explain it, but when I first saw her, I immediately respected her for some reason. But with this, I can add that she's had a lot of experiences in the past so she can deal with them in the future or a situation that resembles it, be patient and understanding but she also will be clear if there is a wrong that someone did. And that even she can relax and have fun. And the other Celestia's( Trollestia, Tyrantlestia and the other who shall not be named, etc), I don't view them as her, but just as an exaggeration and not the real deal. All of them are completely different and I do not view the other Celestias personalities as part of her. It's just a joke. Though there are people who can view them as insulting to her, I can laugh at them and still see Celestia as herself and not them. And wow, I've been at this for quite awhile, so I'll end it here. Keep up with the wonderful videos Silver Quill!
*nerdgasms ad fan girls* Vegeta has always been my favorite DBZ character and one of my first ever crushes.. Damn it Silver Quill.. This is why you're my favorite. And your amount of awesome is too darn high!!
Its nice to FINALLY see more "analysts" who can actually see Celestia and ACTAULLY see her true character and not repeat stupid memes in a 10 minute long video
SombERo Celestia!!! that pronunciation XD Well done silver, when I had regained my sanity after watching that clip, I then proceeded to put it on loop for another good ten minutes. Keep up the good work ^_^
Being a goddess of the sun as well as ruling over all of equestria can be really stressful sometimes, and that stress can build up so much that you can't even think straight. So she lets loose by letting chaos reign, being captured and by generally having fun with twilight and her friends. Because boredom is a killer
After watching this, I went back and watched your Keep Calm and Flutter On review, and realized something. You describe Celestia here as having taken the continuous ephemeral nature of any bonds she forms - the fact that everyone she'll ever love will eventually fade away, leaving her behind - as impetus to seek out even *more* friends and loved ones to fill her life with. But it seems that, until Fluttershy, Discord took the exact opposite approach. Knowing that no one he ever met would live as long as he would, he stopped caring about anyone but himself. ...it almost makes Discord seem like the Yin to Celestia's Yang. Chaos and Order. Apathy and Empathy. ...oddly, Celestia's powers started waning when Discord returned...
Princess Celestia is my favorite Nicole Oliver character! She has the perfect mix of authority and beauty/relaxation in her voice (if Nicole tried to perform ASMR with her Princess Celestia voice, that would be awesome and very relaxing)!
In a sense not being able to tell how much she knows or how powerful she is a testament to her capabilities, "that your enemy think you are weak where you are strong, and let them think you are strong where you are weak" they say a true mark of a strategist is that your opponent can't tell if it all was based off a whim or a carefully laid strategy. It shows how much experience she has at playing the game of politics and battle. Something my father once said, "it's impossible to know what a mind for thousand years old would be thinking of feeling, because nobody's ever live that long before."
We really need more story on the Princesses, don't we? I hope that, after they're done making all of the equestria girls/rainbow rocks/whatever the heck is coming next movies, they finally make an actual full-length movie about Celestia and Luna's adventures (and/or origins). I have no idea about the rest of you, but I'm seriously hungering for some concrete backstory. Honestly, I think it won't be too long until it's time that we got a better look at the past of these two (given all of their stories and adventures across Equestria), especially given the fact that the writers are super stingy (no offence!) about giving us snippets of their history. I mean, even the flashbacks to Nightmare Moon, the Elements, and Discord seemed a little too short-lived, with none of them sharing the entire story. Maybe they were planning to withhold a lot of this from us? Idk, but if they are saving all of this for a super-special occasion, well flipping done. Speaking of things revolving around the princess, there's no concrete episode yet for the Sun Goddess, but I have a really good feeling about a certain upcoming one: "Do princesses dream of magical sheep?" Luna!!! \( ゚◡゚)/ Praise the Moon! \(• ◡ •)/ And praise the Sun!
I'm with you on that, Silver Quill. I really want an episode centered on Celestia and not put her in a position where she ends up being the damsel in distress or the victim of The Worf Effect like with Queen Chrysalis and Lord Tirek. Still, the upcoming episode titled "Do Princesses Dream of Magic Sheep?" might be the episode that we've wanted with Celestia and Luna, but we'll have to wait and see. Either way, I stand by your request at having an episode made just for Celestia, Silver Quill. Let's hope Meghan and the other writers finally grant our request. If not, I'll take one centered around Celestia, Celestia and Luna, or Celestia, Luna, and Cadence.
I love Princess Celestia! I wish we could have an episode featuring her. Also since this is the Summer Solstice I am assuming that there will be a Luna Celebration on the Winter Solstice.
Quill I want an episode were Celestia takes off her royal " armour " and cries because she regrets her past of royal trolling. Plus love u ur vids get me laughing when I an depressed, u are the funniest of ALL THE RU-vidRS!!!!!!!!! Dude tell me how u do your character, pony generator is trolling me badly. Plus I will send u a RU-vid ship with u one! Lol Luna fan' s RULE!!!!!!! Oh I will send u fan art , u are my fav youtuber!
Even if a life you know is to end. There is always a new life to be born or found. For those who still live. Must live for those who have yet to live. And remember for those who can not. And always remember to live a long life but always to live it to its fullest!
Admittedly... I think the reason why Celestia decided to give up her - and all the other Alicorns' - powers to Twilight isn't because she knew she had to. I think it's because she knew, due to her prophetic dreams, that Tirek was going to capture all of them, regardless. She foresaw it, and had to figure out a way to make sure he didn't get what he wanted. She didn't know everything, just what she had to stop.
she is a prankster but not a troll my favorite fanfic by alpha the griffin portrayed all the characters really well he made Celestia a very kind mother like caring person that plays pranks when she gets really bored
