The Toronto Maple Leafs will now move forward without Sheldon Keefe as head coach so what comes next? David Alter from The Hockey News joins Mike DiStefano and David Morassutti to get his thoughts on the news, whether he was getting an inclination that it was coming and if that is enough of a move for the team to make. They get David's thoughts on Mitch Marner and if it's realistic to expect him to be back next season. Mike gets David to give his thoughts on Keefe's legacy from his time in Toronto and if his reputation took a hit from a particular moment in his tenure. David tells Mike and Dave who he thinks the Leafs could be focusing on their head coaching search but offers a name that he believes the team should be going after. To end the show, Mike and Dave ask David what he is expecting in the press conference with Brendan Shanahan, Brad Treliving and Keith Pelley. Will there be accountability taken from Shanahan or will they back themselves in a corner by throwing support and committing to the core after another failed season? Mike, Dave and David discuss why Pelley is a wild-card in this situation.

"There are two reasons why Keefe wasn’t fired until now: It’s because: (a) Brendan Shanahan, as we’re finding out, doesn’t like to admit he’s wrong; and (b) Shanahan knows how to save a scapegoat. Shanahan certainly didn’t get to be 10 years into his tenure as Maple Leafs president by acknowledging his failings to his bosses. Which is why, after years of insisting Toronto can win with its infamous Core Four, the Core Four remains. Which is why Shanahan neglected to fire Keefe after any one of the above-listed playoff failures and last year approved a two-year guaranteed extension for Keefe that has yet to kick in. Imagine, the Leafs paying somebody not to do his job. As one industry insider put it Thursday: “They’ve been doing that with Shanahan for years.” #FireShanahan #FireShanny

Gonna be hard to be around a team like that for so long so many memories gonna be extremely hard likely a lot of tears for a long time , the love passion and belief is very hard to get over , but it also promotes growth , Its sad but it had to be done , I called for this , chin up fists flying boys , Keefe will find a new home but guaranteed he loves these lads in his heart ,

Shanaplan stays if he wants to. You need hockey people in high places. Otherwise, you'd have to be an idiot to think it works. Marner stays if he takes a pay cut and puts 20 pounds on. He needs to unwoke himself and stop eating kail and eat some tail. 10 for 8 years on marner, absolutely no player options in terms of trade ability. And Tavares stays for 4 a year length is optional. That's Marner Tavares for 7 each and that's your 3rd line center and winger. Just a thought. Tavares as 3rd line center is fine in an opinion. Berube isn't the answer but have to wait and see. Ty Nelson and Shane Wright from Seattle for Marner and Leaf’s Retain salary… Leafs take some risk and get Right Hand Defense prospect and a Center prospect…. Seattle get immediate help that could get them to Playoffs next year… and big jolt in the MARKETING DEPARTMENT for a new franchise Mitch likes this cause Washington is 100% state tax free ( Marner thinks he bleeds blue but he really bleeds green Benjamin’s) Leafs win by adding solid center prospect for when Tavares is gone and solid Right Hand Defense Marner waives no trade for Washington State tax haven Win Win Win-- hallmarks of a good trade Leafs need to start thinking FUTURE in case the Mathews Era slides by with no Cup-- adding Wright who Could be a 2 Nd line center and A Right Hand D is solid If this Haul for the Leafs is not enough Seattle throws in a first or second pick in 2026 Leafs start thinking future while Treliving does other moves to cover now with freed up Marner cap space
