The Toronto Maple Leafs were put to the test in the first on-ice session at training camp, with some interesting combinations thrown out right off the hop. Mike DiStefano and David Morassutti look at what the first group looked like at camp, with the Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner duo sticking together. They also look at who was skating with them and who got assigned to William Nylander's wing. Mike and Dave then shift gears to the second group skating, where a lot of attention was paid to the competition that we'll see for roster spots, especially on the fourth line. To end the show, Mike gives the first projected lineup that he thinks the team could roll with while they both wonder if we could see David Kampf's name on the trade block.

I find it very frustrating to hear reporter say that Cowan is not playing with NHLers, what is Alex Nylander, seems he has played in the NHL and was offered several contracts by NHL teams but wanted a different developmental approach. At least report the facts and not twist them like bad media

Come on guys. No disrespect or anything. Love your channel. But this is only day one. We still have preseasons games ahead of us. Maybe they put Cowboy (Cowan) with A.Nylander and Quillan as they’re both AHL bound. To see what Cowboy could do with two AHLers. I’ll bet Cowboy will be on a line with JT or even Nylander tomorrow. Sry but it’s a little too early to set the lines in stone. We all know what Cowboy can do in JRs. Let’s see him with some AHL’ers. A Tier up from Jrs. Sry guys to be that way. Again not trynna disrespect you two. Just a tad too early. Is all. :).

Cowan is too young to play in the AHL so what he can do with AHLers doesn’t really matter…. There is a less than zero chance he makes the team this year.

I Would take Benoit / Hakanpaa as a 3rd pair and Ditch Lilegren for a cheaper option at 7D. Lilegren is NOT a top 4 D and too expensive for a 6,7 Dman. bad contract IMO

Best lines into my opinion is: Knies Matthew's and Domi McMann Tavares Nylander Cowan Minten Marner Pacioretty Kampf Jarnkrok Extras: Holmberg and Dewar. All lines have defense and offensive, just roll the top 3. Play the hot line more on a game to game base

@brandonlandry1789 are you saying Marner isn't a team player or unable to drive his own line? As I said you roll the top 3 lines and go hard on the hot line as a game by game base

@bigdca7454 yes he's not a speed demon but he does have one of the top speed burst ratings on the team. Even with him as the 3rd trailing forward (with a cannon of a shot) they still had 70+ goals as a second line. Not bad IMO
