And what have you got to replace the institutions with? Bloody revolutionaries. They just tear things apart without thinking about what gets lost or having anything better to replace things with, instead of reforming or building on what is already there. The modern West is filled with perennial teenagers who harbour these attitudes

He moans about the establishment-yet he clearly adores it, and loves being interviewed every week; writing for a top newspaper; mixing with the famous; living in a nice part of London; sending his children to good schools, etc. He isn't a Stoic philosopher who has retired to the hills and dedicated himself to modest living & the reading of the classics. He's a socialite and gossiper, in the thick of it all, with a faux Stoic veneer. It's all hypocrisy and treacherous whining. I think the secret to Hitchens is that he hasn't really outgrown his Trotskyism. That was back then a way a trendy middle-class Westerner could affect a tragically hopeless cause, and since then he's found a new way of being a glamorous loser.

Peter is still fundamentally a materialist. He cares about things, he doesn't care about, or even seriously grasp, the reality behind the things he describes. Toby jugs and nice churches are the result of a _spiritual reality_ which this country has fled. Those things are just a past external expression of a reality which is gone. His elegy makes no mention of the Christianity he claims to believe in, he only mentions the outward forms of a dead tradition. He believes in dead things. But isn't it telling this is what Hitchens focus is, and not extinction level birth rates of natives, the biggest losses of civil liberties in history, hard working young people unable to buy a house, eye watering taxes. Ultimately the boomers have experienced such little of the downsides for the last 14 years that I think you can say they're not living in the same country as the rest of us. Like Hitchens, they'd rather just hold off the collapse for as long as they're around, then leave future generations to pay the bill and try and pick up the pieces.

A classic example of why small c conservativeism has failed the West. Its strange, he must of burned out his revolutionary energy in the 70s when he was a Trotskyite.
@Pinkdam
@Pinkdam Месяц назад
Hitchens is proof of the smallness of the 'small-c'. For one instance, consider his anti-weed silliness: preparations of all these things not prohibited were over-the-counter medications prior to emergency restriction to protect morale (possibly unwarranted) in 1916, due to fears conscripts, and only conscripts, might go off the rails on leave. We *know*, as a matter of historical record, both that a healthy polity does not need these prohibitions, and that an unhealthy one is not saved by any amount of them. The same goes for his desire to nationalise the railways: we know they were at their best before 'rationalisation' into the Big Four (also post-WWI); those alive at the time attested to it. The Beeching cuts saw track that men - ours - *died* to lay dynamited, and it was *only* possible after 'nationalisation'. It used to be a semi-famous quip that 'the only thing we learn from history is that we learn nothing from history', but this too seems to have been forgotten. Now to be sure, legalisation or privatisation is likely to be disastrous. But that is because the polity is unhealthy, and the government alienated. And Hitchens surely knows what Aristotle had to say about 'revolution within the form' when "one thing takes the place of another, so that the ancient laws will remain, while the power will be in the hands of those who have brought about revolution". *We* need a revolution, and if it must be 'within the form', of forms foreign to us, so be it.

He is not only endorsing the Tories, but every party that is not Labour, except for Reform (because "they are Right-wing Nationalist radicals"). His fear is that Starmer is the next step of Blairism, while the Tories and the rest of the established parties are just old Blairism. He is telling people to vote what he views as the lesser of two evils, while calling the slightest hint of caring for your own people literally worse than Blairism. The hypocrisy is astonishing when you hear his reasoning for the existence of a certain state in the Middle-East, which he has ethnic ties to through his mothers side of the family.

The Toby jug analogy I liked because it exposes how flimsy our institutions have become. The plastic tumbler will crinkle and spill its contents if held too tight. The jug remains firm no matter how tightly held, unless dropped. Sadly the jug was dropped long ago, and all tht remains is the flimsy replacement. If we have any hope at all of surviving it is to reject the crumbling old walls and start all over again really. How far we go back depends on the Choice of our people of course.

A legendary video as always Morgoth, nice to have seen you on the Lotus Eaters. Like most Boomers Hitchens clings to the WW2 mythos and yearns for a return to it and the country that existed post WW 2 , unaware that by clinging to the institutions he has already seceded the ground to the Blairites who thoroughly control those institutions. Hitchens' conservatism seems like an an appeal to authority, one which rests on nostalgia and the tradition of institutions; to me that seems weak, cowardly, it fails to understand the nature of these British Isles, we're more than a set of institutions, we are a people who have inhabited these isles for an unbroken thousand years. You can see that loathing of nationalism and populism from Hitchens, because it stems from the people not the institutions, I think he sees a certain vulgarity in the raw nature of populism, un-sanitised and un-tempered by his institutions, I think he's bitter because he was a man of the institutions, of the cathedral, and he is no longer part of that; his cathedral was destroyed but he still yearns to be part of it.

He can't seem to accept that fact, there's also an element of elitism to his objections. Hence, he rail's against vulgure populism. In essence, he's found himself on the wrong side of the power structure but yearns to be part of it once more.

Institutions matter. I definitely prefer good institutions to bad ones. But you can’t abstract them from people. When Belgium granted Congo independence in 1960, they gave it a detailed constitution: a parliamentary democracy with a bicameral legislature consisting of a National Assembly and a Senate; an elected President and a Prime Minister answerable to parliament; an independent judiciary, and so on. As soon as the Belgians left, the constitution began to collapse. By 1965 the country was a military dictatorship under Mobuto.

The problem with the institutions that Hitchens is so keen to preserve is that they are essentially Anglo-Norman institutions, created after 1066 precisely to disempower and exclude the ordinary people of England (and later the rest of Britain and - until they gained their independence - Ireland). The analogy with the Toby Jugs on the one hand and the plastic cup on the other is good as far as it goes, but somehow the Anglo-Normans (and their globalist counterparts elsewhere) have created a series of transitional drinking vessels in which some of the external features of the Toby Jug are retained while they are still incrementally plasticised and standardised.
@vorynrosethorn903
@vorynrosethorn903 22 дня назад
The Anglo-Normans are not behind the current state of the country, a great deal happened inbetween and the current elite hate the aristocracy because they took power off of them and need to justify it. The Anglo-Normans were only globalist in the sense of wanting to invade France and fight with Muslims, they had no shred of liberalism or post-reformation theology. If they had a sin it was in the duplicity of the embryonic Tory party in going along with the glorious revolution. The main enemy to the country have been non-conformists and liberals (including those of descendant ideologies, like the fabians). The current elite are managerial and ideologically liberal, they aren't an oath based Christian warrior caste, the two groups don't even share ancestry, the modern managerialists are very obviously under bio-leninist pressures while the old Norman stock occasionally turn up when they do something eccentric or impressive enough but are mostly in the private sector or the army, and are quite regional.

I just wanted to say that I absolutely love the 15 second intro's and outro's to your new videos. I don't know if I even have words, but it is haunting and inspiring at the same time. There are many great releases in life and each gives intense pleasure to the mind, body and soul. Four come immediately to mind. 1. Warming by the fire on a cold winter day 2. Eating after a period of starving 3. Release of sexual tension 4. The release of death from life. People are accustomed to regarding the first three as intensely pleasurable, while associating the last one with pain. However, the last one is actually the most intense pleasure a person can feel, during a person's final moment of release. One's brain lets go of the heavy burden of consciousness, and one's neurons suddenly drift haplessly into a most carefree state. A dream that fades into paradise and oblivion. The picture with the eye wide open represents seeing all the truth in its fullness, which is life (think New Testament theology). The music represents the intense pleasure of death, to those who do not possess the strength and will to open their eyes and bear the realities of this world. These two elements come together in your intro/outro, in that the people with their eyes open also must observe the deaths of their loved ones and kin, who did not have the strength to endure to the end. In the end we live for them.

Power abhors a vacuum. That probably explains why politicians are so enamoured with the EU/UN. Once they realised what power was available, whether as individuals entering politics today or the very first empire to ever expand, it can't be unrealised. That devotion of The institutions is devotion of the Empire that was lost. It's the inability to fill the vacuum with anything else, such as the British people for whom the Empire was originally supposed to benefit (for the common good of the nobility.) The inability to distinguish Empire from any version of a better life is probably one of the primary sicknesses/addictions affecting politicians and bureaucrats.

people forget that these cathedrals didnt spring out of the ground, nor did anyone just decide to have a pop at making something nice. there was an ethos and a spirit and way of life that informed the need to make them. the ardent belief that beauty was communication with God and vital to the most urgent need of everyone, which to the medieval mind was salvation. they didn't make pretty things for, as we would say, psychological benefit, because to them it was much deeper than some tertiary function to form and cost. it was pivotal to the reason we were made, to build a pretty thing. you lose that mindset and you lose the pretty things, it is not something so innate in us that cultural conditioning cannot train it out. and that is the more fundamental point, that institutions were born of an ethos and not the other way around. a church was built to bolster the cross on top of it- see now when they convert a church to another night club or block of flats, that the cross is taken down. this is not removing the prime symbol of the west but in fact replacing it with the current one like an enemy standard over the fort. its just that our current symbol is empty space. but thats space yearning to be filled with something again.
