I never understand the sideboard plan of all these streamers and youtubers when against Esper Control. They always board out all their removal, which seems silly when every Esper player ever always boards in Thief of Sanity, Basilica Bell Haunt, and Hostage Taker for game 2. Then they make a surprised Pikachu face when they get beat down.
Seth I'm convinced you control the meta of arena. Every video you upload I face that deck about a million times right after. So you are in essence THE wizard of the coast.
Agreed. MTGO is terrible. Looks awfully outdated and it's impossible to tell what the hell is going on without a magnifying glass. Arena, is smooth running, nicer looking, and emphasizes the action in a way that is understandable (i mean that right there is probably the big reason it's drawn so many new people to the game).
I get your point, but only standard is kind of lackluster for the gameplay experience, so mtgo is still more interesting until arena gets more expansions, formats
could just be youtube being youtube, youtube has been cutting video's at the end for a while now just not as much anymore unless its not at the exact end
Oh my god, dude, listening to his voice for several months, I imagined Saff as a 60 kg skinny little guy. My MGTGoldfish podcast experience will never be the same
I feel like rather than Immortal Sun mainboard, you should definitely be playing Elenda or even Whisper, Blood Liturgist. The ability to sac to reanimate a Teysa with Whisper would be pretty good, and you can curve out into Divine Visitation AND sac in the same turn, so you theoretically shouldn't need to hit six mana before it does anything with Pontiff in the same turn. I dunno man, I don't really like The Immortal Sun here. It does some stuff, but I don't feel it's as synergistic as a reanimator/sac outlet to get back your Teysas that are going to inevitably die.
It takes too much collateral damage from people building against aggro. Dies to Carnarium, Moment of Craving, Shock, Chainwhirler, as well as all the other removal that hits other creatures. Just hard to keep alive, and realistically needs another piece like Teysa, Priest, Pontiff, whatever. Plus, with Elenda, we'd have minimum 6 four-drops, realistically, which is scary
There was a risk they had three removal spells in hand (like two Moment of Craving) and we'd just die. Maybe it was too conservative of a line, but that was my fear.
@@MTGGoldfish I wouldn't expect a moment of craving since that would get around your indestructibility, so they would lead with that, but I get the idea :)
So I was brainstorming and came up with a challenging but oddly fun combo for standard: . Cast Arcane Adaptation naming "pirates". Cast Forerunner of the Coalition to search for Naru Meha, Master Wizard. Cast Siren's Ruse targeting Forerunner, then with it on the stack flash in Naru targeting the Ruse. Your opponent loses a life, then Naru flickers, you draw a card (each time), and rinse-repeat till they die. . It could be built in Dimir but if you go Esper you get the classic infinite life combo with Ajani's Welcome or Impassioned Orator as well as a second flicker spell in Justiciar's Portal. . The deck could also take advantage of other creatures like Dire-Fleet Poisoner, Merfolk Trickster, Angel of Grace, and Dream Eater to round out an all flash cast (to save every one of us). Or you can stuff the combo into a control shell with a lot of draw/dig/removal spells and Teferi's. Personally I like the flash deck as it's cheekier, but go with what you think will work best. Assuming this gets on your radar. :) Have fun and thanks for reading my overly long idea.
I feel like a couple of Seraph of the scales and lyra could make this deck a bit stronger for those interested. The grind from visitation if it sticks is pretty real so we ideally need ways to hold down the fort and some more high impact fliers might help.
It's a goldfish tool (but it is similar to powerpoint, just with the ability to add cards just by typing their name rather than doing it all manually).
I know the point is to go crazy with spirits but Orzhov Enforcer is a much better pick than Ministrant in this deck. Also maybe Ixalan's binding instead of immortal suns gives some flexibility. I have been doing well with a similar list.
23:00 You had lethal. They had 1 card in hand and you had a removal spell, even if their card was a removal spell or a counter, you had 11 incoming damage and they could only stop 3.
Immortal Sun was lethal there in several possible ways. Either use priest after attack or just swing with all, force blocks and any blocker that dies kills the opponent due to Reaper.
I made a Divine Visitation deck on Arena, went the Red-White route for the Goblin Synergys. Seige Gang and the Sorcery that makes more goblins for copies in graveyard.
in game 3 of match 1, how come you weren't attacking with pitiless pontiff every turn? Since it could get indestructible and it had deathtouch the izzet player couldnt block with drakes cause ud just sack a spirit and kill whatever they threw in front of it.
22:45 I get that you still won here, but why would you cast visitation with no way of making tokens when you can just mortify their only blocker and swing lethal?
Game 3 vs control, has Immortal Sun shutting down Teferi, kills Teferi with spirits anyway instead of leaving behind a blocker to prevent opponent from getting value off of Thief... why?
For visualization it's easier to start a new row than to look through the entire list for split up cards like the two suns in different not closer together columns. At least put two columns of odd cards together.
I had almost 10 year gap since I last played MTG, I started again with arena about when the first new ravnica set camed out, and I must say "Divine Visitation" has been my new favourite card of all time, not that easy to make work, but when it does, my god!! But I would always splash little red to Divine decks, if not anything all than 4x "Heroic Reinforcements", but that card is too good with divine to left out.
Probably not. Kaya has a chance if it shows up in Modern or Legacy maybe, Teysa probably has long potential for Commander, but I don't expect an immediate spice.
Watching these games make me happy, control in standard the last two years has annoyed me greatly- nice to see your white/black deck taking it to a control/burn.
Ive been playing Magic for over 15 years and honestly this MtgA vs Mtgo debate on this channel is ridiculous. To be honest, it is far more interesting to watch Arena gameplay with all the animations. Having targeting arrows helps me understand moment to moment the actions being taken not just by Seth but also the people he's playing against to a degree. Missing the card text is far more nominal in standard where the number of both unique interactions and card pool are limited enough that most players are aware of what X card's effect is. I think Seth taking Standard to Arena makes sense in that regard. Mtgo obviously has Modern, Legacy, and Vintage so it won't dissappear. And honestly Mtgo is a lot less financially feasible for most players.
Final Payment is probably better in that regard (instant speed and allows you to pay life instead of saccing if need be). But really I think that Priest and Mortify cover most of the deck's removal needs.
Please use your removal. Several time you missed an easy attack for lethal bc you were setting up more of your synergies, but could have ended the game instead.
Hmm, uninstalling and redownloading might fix it. It has been weird the last couple of days (I've been randomly getting disconnected for no apparent reason).
Last game you missed lethal the turn before last. Could've played immortal sun, hit them to 1 and then used priest to kill them not that it mattered. Good video as usual regardless
Umm teysa combined with Judith Priest and vindictive vampire for MACKSIMUM ARISTOCRATUM is something you have not done. Trust me this deck can combo HARD. The angel enchantment plus teysa seems like the pinnacle of win more. I guess we’ll see.
will you ever play a control deck? like a real control deck with a grindy gameplan and the wincon is to just prevent decking? I've watched your videos for like 3 years and i don't remember seeing one control deck video. or is it just bad for viewing? Maybe i'm just a weirdo but i love 1hour control mirrors where i can trace a mistake for like 15 turns back and see where i lost.
iiiii, you were playing so - weird? this video? idk it's just,, like first of all you opened with memorial to folly instead of orzhov guildgate and play off curve because you didn't have a plains, then you complain about not drawing land on turn x for immortal sun ; draw land on turn x+1 for immortal sun, *then play **_divine visitation_* ; play immortal sun on turn x+2, _then attack their now defunct teferi despite the onboard thief of sanity_ and basically never activate pontiff- like, it's more than just 1, Sacrifice a creature: . and almost never activating memorial to folly eg 43:10 when they kill teysa why not get it back?
Your head floating around with the cards was a bit jarring in the deck tech. Maybe having a background rather than greenscreen or removing it all together is better.
Boy you are easily jarred then. Don't watch any scary movies, you might die of shock. Be grateful that Seth dares grace your eyes with his beautiful visage.
I love Seth but am I the only one that thinks he plays way too conservatively? He very frequently has card/board advantage at times and instead of pressuring his opponents for answers will just hold back for the sure thing. It's why watching him play aggro decks is rough. Other than that, this channel is life lol
Actually, this is probably true. I tend to play fairly conservatively and play around things too much. It might be a flaw in my game, at least for some decks.
@@MTGGoldfish Its okay, im sure I don't play perfect either but when you have the upper hand, push your opponent. For example in game 2 against drakes you can pressure your opponent by just going wide or swinging with the pontiffs, forcing your opponent to either spend their mana answering your threats and reducing their board presence or being forced into a position where a full swing will go too wide for them to stop. As an aggro/midrange player, every single point of damage counts, get it!! Love you Seth, thanks for taking the time to respond :)
Hey Seth, I have a proposition for you/MTGGoldfish for a T-shirt idea, assuming you're cool with self-deprecating humor and Richard is cool with it as well.
Well seeing as I can't message you directly from YT account to YT account:@@MTGGoldfish A picture of you on the front giving some super enthusiastic thumbs up with a caption, "Better known as SaffronOlive." But laid out in phonetic pronunciation and wildly incorrect. And on the back all of the names of all the cards that you pronounce weird. Even duplicate cards of your various pronunciations (Primal Omulet, Primal Aimulet, etc.).
But hey man, I always love your enthusiasm in your videos and I hope you're pretty immune to criticism since you're a content creator. I will continue to watch what you put out. :)
Everyone that's crying about no mtgo is really annoying. Arena is faster and more visually appealing (especially as a viewer). I'd almost understand if you didn't want to go to Arena because you've spent X amount of dollars on mtgo and don't wanna jump to another game, but saying "Seth play on mtgo because mtgo is better and I don't like Arena" makes you sound like a stubborn child that can't/won't cope with change. The future is now old man.
Honestly I don't care about visual appeal, and it actually seems no faster (animations slow it down even). I wont be switching to Arena until older formats are added, but if Seth wants to play Arena it's whatever. Personally the annoying thing for me (who has litterly only seen Arena via Against the Odds) was getting used to it's UI,which imo is a step down, because it seems cluttered and less clear.
