They are incomprehensibly beautiful, i can't wrap my head around it man. At work i try to be a different person, strong and resilient, but i always come back to this like i'm getting back in touch with my forgotten self.
Agalloch is really something special. I learned about them after I discovered their pre Agalloch project called Susurrus Inanis. It's the time when I used listen to dark ambient music, it was like a ghost from another time spoken to me. I never heard something so ethereal and dark and melancholic like it is. I may be not be culturaly familiar with the themes of Agalloch, I'm getting to know it better. While Susurrus Inanis, they just made one demo in 97, and is something I'll be missed like fans of Agalloch feel.
Well, it truly is a masterpiece in its own right. Once something connects and becomes personal you will make a bond to the sounds, and it seems this album just archived that.
I 1st heard Agalloch as I was walking out a music store and saw this cd plain brown w a name nobody ever heard of. Something said "buy it". Took it home. Heard it and just froze. So beautiful, appealing, PERFECT! 1 cd and they became my favorite band. Pale folklore is still my favorite Agalloch cd. Never found N E one who even heard of them until 1-1/2 yrs ago. Found the White ep last nite. Ordered immediately. This band means so much to me and so impossible to find, I have to get them frm my safe dep. box when I want to listen. HAILS. AGALLOCH for the beauty you brought to my life!!!
I had the same feeling when i seen Marrow of the Spirit in a store, took it home put it in a cd player, plugged my cans in and listened to it laying in bed with the lights off.. magical.
I remember when I was 16 years old, listen Agalloch, Burzum and Drudkh, with my mp3 portable, reading the oneiric dreams of Lovecraft and his search for the Silver Key...
To keep alive the soul in these hard times. I feel blessed I had chances to see them live in the US and EU years ago. Especially in Oregon (magnificent state) and California. This music will be with me until my last breathe.
I got this album one month ago limited deluxe embossed slipcase edition made of heavy art card stock, is really awesome and for my surprise the bonus song Where Shade Once Was...
pantheist sounds just like the soundtrack from a post-apocalyptic MMO I used to play called Fallen Earth. I feel like I'm playing the game when I listen to this music. Man I love this band.
I haven't followed the metal scene all that closely in a while, but are there any bands in a similar vein that come close to the depth and beauty of Agalloch's music? The one band I remember from back in the day that was similar and truly excellent was Empyrium. Are there any other's?
Alda is one i found recently which I'd highly recommend. Woods of Ypres, solstafir, drudkh, draconian, insomnium and empyrium are some similar vain of bands. Hope this gives you something new to enjoy.
I used to be friends with them on Facebook, back when I was in college. Felt great to have a few exchanges of words from the other side of the world. ah how time flies.
I need more music like this. Steve Von Till is great and if only Stig C Miller released some record....but this thing by Agalloch, I'm so fascinated by it
