Agatha Christie is obviously an influential figure in the world of literature - but can we see her influence in the horror films we watch? I'd argue yes, in fact I did... in this video... There are so many points I wasn't able to get to, so I tried to rush through a few of my favourites focused on the book And Then There Were None.
This video discusses both the book and the 1945 René Clair film. When discussing the book I tend to use clips from the 2015 BBC Adaptation, as it is the most similar adaptation to the text that I have seen.
Let me know your thoughts!

Agatha Christie is my favourite author. You have some really interesting video ideas and you're really funny - wish you still uploaded.

The comparison to Ridley Scott’s Alien is an interesting one, and it makes sense when looking at the shocking similarities between the settings of both stories. An isolated island and a lost spaceship, trapped in a confined space with a killer, and no way to escape. I’ll be thinking of Christie next time I watch Alien.

Such a shame you no longer post videos. You have the perfect voice for it & approach the subject intellectually. Very much enjoyed your efforts here

The 2015 adaptation was brilliant! I cannot rate that one high enough. I feel the same way about the newest three part adaptation of Why Didn’t They Ask Evans.

I got tbh I loved that intro edit at 1:49 just felt very clean....and also a little ominous. It's interesting to think how big of a domino affect such an old poem made in the horror/mystery genres. I love the use of clips from movies all around the two genres, lets you really see the impact visually. More of a suggestion than a critique, if at all possible adding some background music behind when you speak, I feel, would be quite nice. Even without it though, I gotta say still hooked me...very interesting subject!

Thanks man! I do agree on the music front, I did try out a couple but couldn't get the right vibe - going be watching some other videos and see the kind of things they use and keep experimenting. Thanks for your feedback again:)

Compelling points made. Christie is a blind spot for me, but I think I need to read and watch some of these asap

They're definitely interesting books, v short so the films/TV shows are able to add a lot themselves. I will say they may seem cliche at this point so it's important to keep in mind that they're the first ones that began the clichés!

And Then There Were None is my favourite Christie novel, but it always loses something when adapted to film. The brilliance of the novel is that it's a mystery story structured as a brain teaser puzzle. There is no detective character. Just the victims and the reader. She casts the reader in the role of detective, gives you all the clues, and then leaves it to you to solve the mystery. The epilogue of the story is the key to the puzzle, so you can find out if got the right answer. It's a scene in the police station of several police officers discussing what was found on the island, the evidence, and the identity and backstory of the killer. It is the most brilliantly structured mystery novel ever written. You can't really bring that same experience to a visual format which is why none of the adaptations have ever tried. The films are enjoyable but they aren't as mentally engaging.

I didn’t really like how the crimes in the 2015 adaptation were changed to very active murders that could easily be prosecuted, king of negating the whole point.

6:14 There's something very ironic about casually swearing in a way that's very offensive to Christians right in the middle of not wanting to repeat a very rude slur about black people. I can't tell whether that was deliberate irony but it really stands out. Interesting parallels between And Then There Were None and later horror movies, by the way. There do indeed seem to be some similarities, but also notable differences (such as Christie's killer here, though admitting to feeling elements of sadism, not being as obviously deranged as horror villains seem to be).

Come on. You just can't stop doing video after such great few ones. More Christie, please.

How can it be reminiscent of something that came afterward?
