I believe Navistar purchased the Melrose park 400 series engines off IHC when they folded ,these were exceptional engines ,very reliable powerfull and economical .

My local Challenger dealer just added Fendt to their line up. They have an Ideal on order for this fall. I am eager to film an Ideal.

A 1940’s Gleaner is very cool to still have. The Baldwin Brothers built the first Gleaner in 1923. From 1923-1954 it was the Baldwin Gleaner Company. In 1955 Allis-Chalmers squired Gleaner. In 1985 it became Deutz-Allis and in 1990 AGCO.

The only redeeming quality of a Gleaner was the chain tensioners, wear one out and go to the end of the field and cut another "wooden block" off a tree lol.

@@eddycurrent1664 We have an old Gleaner L2 its amazing the wooden blocks work really well just adjust them at the start of every season and your all set to go and depending on the type of wood you use you can get a good 4 seasons out of them what really helps you let them soak in used engine oil easily double the life. these days if you brake a chain tensioner it takes about a week to get the damn parts.

I’ve always said if Gleaner had the dealer support/coverage like John Deere, that most of the world would be running Gleaners.

Gleaner garnered a poor reputation back in the late 70's/early 80's. IMO, some of it was overblown, but some of it was earned with poor quality control from the factory and lots of stories about farmers getting basically lemons that broke down far to early and often hung around. Now, that was well before the machine in this video, but farmers have long memories when they are family owned and the Pa remembers the stories. IMO AGCO designed this and the newer series extremely well, and I think their reputation will recover finally, but it will take time. Old Gleaners were amazing machines. But it doesn't take a lot with how much competition there was back then to cripple a company's image.

This is a common speed here in WKY. The wheat yields 90-100 bu. Every farm I talk to about the reel speed talks about setting the reel to sweep in the crop in to match harvest speed.
