Great video, I'm in my 50's and I'm still dipping under the 18 mins for 5k and under 3 hour marathons. Lots of great masters runners out there and I'm not even near them.
Check out Tommy Hughes the Irish runner. He ran 2:27:52 in the Frankfurt Marathon in October 2019 at age 59. At age 60 he ran a marathon in 2:30:02 in the Lisburn Festival of Running in Ireland. Impressive!
I just came across 100% raw vegan over 60 year old runners Alan Murray and Janette Murray-Wakelin who ran marathon distances for 366 consecutive days circling Australia. You're tapping into and sharing some inspiring knowledge with your videos. Thank you.
I caught that, too. Still think it's 99% determined, though. Includes cardio, build, very competitive, mental toughness, and a strong desire to be famous and successful at something.
Jeff Browning is phenomenal now I adapted his diet but it doesn’t work quite as well. It’s actually improved my running a lot but last year he did the 125 and he said a record that I don’t think anybody’s gonna even come close to touching. He’s phenomenal now. My question I’m gonna be 62 this year And I run mostly real rugged trails mountains and stuff in the south east and it seems as I got older I go for the harder courses and maybe because I’m slowing down wondering if I should start throwing in like a fast 5K once a year, if nothing else just to see where my fitness isbut I do love running real rough, rugged trailers, so who knows
If you’re looking at the single examples of the greatest performance a human has achieved, sure. But if you look at the standard population the POTENTIAL is the same at those ages. And I’m referring the the marathon in the video. 18 year old marathoners and 60 year old marathoners provided that they train similarly and don’t have an accumulation of decades of abuse from poor diet, they can run the same. I have runners in their mid 50s running under 2:40. And the best in their mid 50s are in the 2:20s. about the same as a very good 18 year old. Better in many cases.
