It's pronounced Dan Yoob. The Danube is the largest river in Europe, and very important throughout history. It marked the border between the Roman empire and German tribes for centuries.
Actually the most powerful Holy Roman Emperor, Charles V, was born in modern-day Belgium and his first language was french. So it's ok to speak french as the HRE. He famously said "I speak spanish to God, french to men, italian to women and german to my horse"
i think th term is called 'strike while the iron is hot'. i remember watching drongo when he was at like 7k subscribers, i think he realizes that with new succesful rts hype this is the time to go balls deep on content. happy for the man
A stone wall in the river crossing and then some zhuch chu on top of the wall would have been nice. Then pull some villagers to repair the wall, instead of pulling them to kill the rams and they would have lived longer. But it's a really nice map.
@@Sids1192 Yeah. But that's time won for the chinese player. I feel like a 100 stone wall would have been more effective than pulling 15-20 villagers to then have half of them dying, especially when the HRE player is building another ram behind all this.
Yeah. An earlier wall basically anywhere would have held the game for longer, perhaps giving time to transition into song dinasty to get the eco advantage back. But not going for water hurt the food supply so bad it was basically not possible. Rest in pepperoni.
6:30 Wouldn't an L shape be a better wall? You'd be able to put a gate in for yourself easier at least. If you can put towers in the shallow water, you can defend the forward wall, then build a stone wall across the top of the L (so now it's a [ shape) and you can control the choke point from a more secure position. It seems drawing a cross through the center doesn't give you any benefit compared to the people on the other side of the river.
I might be missing something but I'm surprised that not so many players are using the stone walls for that extra defense. They aren't that expensive and can put them down pretty fast in the early/mid game. If the Chinese player had done this close to the river he would had been able to stand much longer and buy him some time I think.
I think the HRE is stronger this patch than before, so it's weird to say they were nerfed. There was a tiny balance change that was a nerf, but the buffs to the Men at Arms and Prelates from the bug fixes will have a much bigger effect I think. Also, I if the meta starts to shift towards Men at Arms or Fast Castle or Fast Imp, those will all play into HRE's strengths. There is no way that HRE is lower on the tier list than it was last patch.
@@patricity9355 No, the prelate bug was fixed. There seems to be a different circumstance that causes the prelate to bug that hasn't been reproduced yet, and happens rarely. But for all intents and purposes, the prelate is MUCH more reliable now, and can be considered a "buff"
The Donau, the German name of Danube, is the main river of Austria, which was also part of the HRE and later the main crown-lands of Kings and Emperors of Habsburg. The austrian parts of Danube are swampy and flat, a very warm reagion, ideal for wine, fruits and mediterran products like almonds and safran. If you are interested in that specific german culture, look for "Wachau", an UNESCO area in lower-austria, cities like "Melk" and "Krems".
Ironically, they wouldn't take reduced damage since they're already taking only 1 damage/hit from the high armour, you can't go lower than 1 damage/hit. But you are correct that he could have followed into the gatehouse since he could just go around the small wall.
The stone wall with the stone tower outcropping won't work (that great) anymore. Rams went from 15 ranged armor to 30 Springalds do ranged dmg, not siege ^^ So a tower would only do 60-30+20 (bonus dmg vs siege) 50 dmg. That to 700 hp 14 shots. That's a lot of shots... you'd be better off focussing the units around it and torching it. It's a bit messy for china now, but maybe scouts vs the rams and to tank the MAA while the Zhuge shoot. And well..I am not a proponent of china 2TC in most matchups. You can mirror your opponents, but you're better off going 1TC emergency military into castle age in most cases. Armor and (or) rams are such an issue for china.
I think it went up to 30 armour. Still, 24 shots to destroy a ram takes a while, even 8 take 50 sec if you throw down 3 stone towers or outposts with springalds - which requires you to reach Castle Age first, as well. That's as long as a single Zhuge Nu takes to kill a MAA, lol. 31 torches from 10 scouts or horsemen will take it down in about 6 seconds after reaching the ram. The scouts cost half as much, but the horsemen survive 32 instead of 22 archer shots each and deal 11 times the damage against the archers, so they're useful against both rams and archers (and not too terrible against MAAs). I'd probably go with a mix of scouts and horsemen. The Zhuge Nu aren't a great choice against neither rams nor MAAs of course, but then again nothing properly counters MAAs in Age II. Still need a fast Castle for that. I'd still produce Zhuge Nu if my enemy started mixing in spears against my cav.
@@Muenni my man I mean the stone wall outcrop towers! You get those in fuedal. Those standard come with a springald. Those cost 200 stone and you'll be paying 45 stone for a 3 stone wall segment to fit that one tower. But yea, scouting and response not great in this game. Zhuge are also slower than archers, but have better dps. In a pinch you can fight a group of MAA's with an archerball 2 - 3x MAA size fairly well. As well as zhuge downright blasting down archers (mind the shirter range and slower msp on zhuge though). Horsemen got nerfed kinda hard...120 resources same as MAA. I'd almost prefer hand cannon towers. But in the end you should try not to get into this situation! Scout scout scout. 5MAA coming at you? Get 10 - 15 archers or 10 zhuge and press them back. Castle asap on the back of it!
@@SamuraiHonor Yeah, I was confused yesterday and somehow thought both outposts with springalds and stone towers with the included springalds came in Age III. Sorry for that!
Fun Fact the Danube is a long river passing through Germany, Austria, Hungary, and Romania ending in the black sea...so Wallachia, Serbia, Hungary confirmed?
Hey Aussie, I love your content! I was wondering if you could switch to res/min when casting? I know you do it occasionally, but I'm always amazed by how efficient these players are!
I dont like they remove fish spot from the mini map. Its like we have to find directly the fish spot. Back then i can just scout the rivers without directly look at it
"Danube" changes its name according to the countries it passes through. Dunarea (Romania), Dunav (Croatia), Duna (Hungary), Dunau (Austria)... and so on. Your pronunciation is correct, as per the English name for the river, that holds also for the French.
How the heck do I beat the campaign where you are French defending the waves of attack. The one where there are villages spread around outside of walls and you have to call them in.
You have to immediately get your eco upgrades and boom during the grace period so you can afford royal knights and mangonels. You have a landmark that produces cheap pavise boys to support against M2A
Yea ignoring the fish on this map was a huge mistake, it was basically free food that he was severely lacking. Also, it pains me to see people neglecting the boars so frequently, had he sent 8 vills down to make a mill on that bottom left boar, that 2k food gathers really fast.. especially with survival techniques. You could even send an official down too for bonus food, or it was highly unlikely cone would’ve gone down there to stop it. fish plus a boar would’ve changed reds game completely.
Nothing really changed for the chins. Zhuge nu meme unit is cheaper, but got nerfed as well. It’s just an archer side grade except it costs gold as well. Too bad they still can’t deal with early armor which was their main problem, so they’ll keep getting dumpstered in age 2 by above avg iq players.
I dont understand why all these pro players are always so hesitant to use walls. If i were china i would have walled up the crossing before the first raid even came.
@@Muenni he meant the stone tower you place in wall, not an outpost. Though, yea ram ranged armor up, and springalds deal ranged, not siege. So its not so good anymore.
Abba S tier, best ranged units now and camels get indestructible in age 4 :-) infinite armor with camel barding when researched with a lot of blacksmiths. What is happening Drongo? :-) Everything infinite
The new map is awesome but it's still so incredibly frustrating to watch ram rushes, tbqh. The "nerfs" didn't do shit to put an end to this dumb and braindead strategy and 80% of games are just decided by whoever manages to build rams and rush first / more effectively. There's basically 0 counterplay to it because the only counterplay is pulling villagers to stop those rams which in turn then get murdered. So the person who has the rams ALWAYS wins the trade. It's a really sad thing to see and I really hope that they continue to nerf those rams (and actually nerf them, not just.. pseudo-nerf.)
It wasn't an issue for me in a games I played or watched. If you have a military lead and invest in the rams, then you should be able to counter someone who is falling that far behind. Here China invested in two landmarks, and two TCs...while the opponent was going for early aggression. He could have done a better job of scouting, been more flexible with his build order, or built some melee units to counter the rams.
Can you explain things in more detail please. i enjoy watching you i just wish you would explain why you should or shouldnt do the things your talking about
