i kinda find it funny that the kharadron have flying ships and the Deepkin have flying sea creatures, actually you could probably make a thematically pretty cool combined army with them.

So happy to hear that the Namarti are not an oppressed caste. That would have just seemed too cliched

Thanks Doug, I got into the Warhammer hobby bout 6 months ago and was told to avoid AOS. Your videos have changed my opinions on AOS hope I can use you as an example to convince my friends on Warhammer. Keep up da gud werk, lad.

I think elf souls are effectively a permanent solution for the Namarti, but human souls aren't strong enough, so they only add several years to their lifespans. But there aren't very many (any?) elf cities to raid, and even if there were, humans are comparatively easy pickings. Plus, there seems to be a bit of Aeldari inspiration to this army, so I'd imagine there would be some distaste to stealing your cousin's souls vs the barbarian humans. Like, cultivating a village and culling a portion of it every 50 years or so by stealing their souls while they sleep is basically like eating free range ethnically killed meat. 😂

Possible, but the battletome mentions them preying on Daughters of Khaine (also aelves) and it still not working. Maybe (and this is a total theory) the problem isn’t that the souls they are born with are bad, but they as people cannot hold them like another mortal would contain a soul. Like a hole in he bucket, the soul pours out of them.

I love this army and this is going to be my first in age of sigmar.

Love your AoS content. It's part of the reason I switched from 40K to AoS

I love the Idoneth for so many different reasons, but there is one thing I wish they had done differently; the spell of forgetfulness so that no-one remembers seeing them. I like how its pragmatism on their part (makes raiding easier) but something from a Malign Portents story made me think it would be different . . . "‘Lord-Aquilor Khamastus, the tide’s blessings upon you,’ said the mounted aelven lord. ‘You know me, aelf?’ asked Khamastus. ‘How? What spellcraft is this? How have you come to strike so suddenly from the aether?’ The lord didn’t answer, instead casting a look of irritation at his robed comrade. The second aelf quirked an eyebrow and tilted his head, staring hard at Khamastus. ‘Look not to me, Aemorthis,’ the robed figure said. ‘This is no obfuscation of the Isharann. Some other sorcery has clouded his memory, or else damaged it. He knows us not.’ The aelven lord made a guttural sound that Khamastus took to be annoyance, then shook his head". This passage made me think that the magic of forgetfulness was due to someone else . . I thought it could have been Teclis, which would have been great for building his character; it would have almost been as if he was ashamed of his failings and was trying to conceal the Idoneth for that reason and/or he was trying to protect the Idoneth. Love your videos 2+, keep it up!
@2Tough
@2Tough 6 лет назад
I agree. I was thinking that Teclis would "Cover up his mistakes" by cursing them in such a way that no one remembers them.
@hughwhite3273
@hughwhite3273 6 лет назад
The mechanic in-game is amazing :) maybe Gamesworkshop were trying to show that the Deepkin were very in control of their own destiny, in defiance of the curse in their own natures. We had a bunch of that manipulation stuff from Morathi. The idea that a god they rejected is still partly in control of them (through the spell of forgetfulness) could be seen to diminish their "achievements" in surviving in spite of the terrible curse most of them labour under. Very similar to KO in that they are going for "self-made" aelves rather than "god-controlled" aelves

So this may just be a "because GW thought it'd be cool," but how could the Alliance of Wood and Sea battalion function? Because if Deepkin are essentially soul vampires, why do they not see their allies as essentially food?

I honestly have no idea, lol. Some battalions just leave me scratching my head

EPIC thumbnail photo. Highly recommend reading Sir Doyle’s ‘The Maracot Deep’. Ahead of its time, even though a bit outdated now. Cool story with Atlantis and weird under-the-sea goings on.

Correction, a elves life span should be hundreds if not thousands of years. Unless that was changed in AoS.
@CrankyOldGamer

Do you think their survival instincts would cause them to steal or even take souls from other tribes of Deepkin?
@2Tough
@2Tough 5 лет назад
hmn... I dont see why not, if there is enough desperation. However since they (as a faction) are already in short supply, I imagine it would be the absolute last resort since it would be a lot of work to yield few rewards.

Hey! Do you think that we will have new elven army from Tyrion soon? We still doesn't have any new "normal" elf army with phoenixes etc. I know that they are in the game using old models but I'm asking here about new one
@GecktronLP
@GecktronLP 6 лет назад
Im pretty sure there won't be any more aelf armies this year. We already got 2 big releases. Mid to late 2019 is the soonest I can see GW releasing another aelf army. Also, there won't be "normal" aelf army. The Asur and Druchii of the world-that-was are dead. GWs has embraced the weirdness of AoS and every new release will reflect the magical aspects of the mortal realms. The Daughters of Khaine battle tome also had short descriptions of Malerions Shadow Aelfs and Tyrions light Aelfs. The light aelfs of Hysh were described as angelic beings of light and reason. While Ulgu is home to shadow daemons, monsters (and Im sure the Tenebral Shard and Mistweaver Saih are part of Malerions faction too)

Who do they raid?
@kenhouston814
@kenhouston814 6 лет назад
Sean Kavanagh for the souls to keep the Namarti (who make the majority of the population) alive by binding the soul essence to them, otherwise they would die soon after birth, likely within days.
@seankavanagh3742

Ken Houston Yes but who? Do they hunt only the enemies of order or just everyone?
@kenhouston814

Sean Kavanagh seems to depend on the enclave, but mostly whoever it takes to survive

Hi there! THey actually prey on a few factions: Sylvaneth, humans, orrucks etc. Anything with a "life-essence" i suppose

I love this series, thanks so much for taking the time really to lay all of this out! I've been thinking of possibly starting an army of them, but since the Namarti are so expensive I thought about creating an Akelian heavy force. I would have a ton of the eel riders as well as the shark guys. For a story I was going to pose them as an off shoot band of Deepak In. They left their enclave because they disagree with going on raids and stealing other souls. They also justify this by believing that Namarti don't deserve to live because they are failures and that Aelves can't survive with them. So these Deepkin are sort of a small strike force that just doesn't have any namarti. It's a really unorthodox build, but I like it!

The caste system the Idoneth are divided into seems to somewhat mimic Plato's idea of the perfect society being divided into three sub-categories: a workforce taking care of the more material necessities (food, shelter and the like), being the Namarthi, characterized by the virtue of temperance, a warrior caste defined by courage with the duty of defending the whole (the Akhelians) and a group of wisemen and philosophers (the Isharanns) pointing the whole to the best possible future for everyone. What do you think?
@2Tough
@2Tough 6 лет назад
Very insightful! The way they play of greek tropes would certainly back up your theory, bravo :)

I would also like to point out that the akhelian armors are visualy very clearly inspired by greek armors...which I think supports your theory

It is interesting that they have an economy based on souls, that idea is important to their fluff so it probably needed to be explored more then other races. I think fantasy risks coming into problems when it explains the economics of the setting, in general, but KO did it well by keeping certain details vague.
