Games Workshop dev #1: "...and the new AoS faction will be sea aelves." Games Workshop dev #2: "We can't call them sea aelves. That's can't be trademarked." Games Workshop dev #1: "What can we possibly call them, other than sea aelves?" Games Workshop dev #2 "I dunno....Deepkin?" Games Workshop dev #1: (mishearing) "Idoneth Deepkin? That's a great idea!"
I love your channel! Only recently discovered it. Watched your Slaanesh vids and Morathi/DoK vids, and now i am binging these ID (my newest army) vids. I have been looking for a AoS lore channel for ages. Thank you for all the work you're doing. ps this was posted on my birthday!
Great Vid as always! I love have GW can just create these out of the blue armies that you never expected (ie Kharadon, deepkin) i wonder how large they want their range to be in the end! Also cant wait for the Malerion/Tyrion Elf races :D imagine how cool those would be!
awesome!! Just build my Gloomtide Shipwreck while listening to this lore. loving this new faction. can't wait to play them. thank you for doing this series on the deepkin.
Holy crap man.....as someone new to Warhammer especially Age of Sigmar this is some amazing stuff! Second fav faction to the Seraphon for me love this story for them. 😃
Yey! Thank you so much for this. great job of putting together all the little pieces! It all just makes so much more sense now. I might just have to start a Deepkin army... but $50 for battleline. Oof
They have similar foundations but if you go deep they are nothing like Dark Eldar. Read about ionrach, pretty much high elves which are the main enclave. I think they take from all aelf lore so it gives them a huge range in terms of story.
Really looking forward to see what they do with Tyrion, Teclis and Malerion. Seeing what the Elves in their image will be has me very hype. I wonder if they will release what is essentially Dark and Light Aelves at the same time with some box sets or if they will combine them somehow as there seems to be a lot of Light and Shadow working together themes in AoS atm.
2:00 totally unrelated to Mathlann. But since Kurnoth was Kurnous, explicitly a survivor of the old world, it is curious that his pocket of souls hasn't been discussed or even hinted at in AoS. Because in a way, Orion seemed to be the compounded souls of every Wood Elf Prince brought to him, in addition to the current Orion and Kurnous/oth. Just off memory I do not know if he's explicitly suffused with all of their souls, he certainly has individuality even if these things are clashing with him. It would be interesting if this is where Kurnothi might come from, or if that could be a future faction of Kurnoth for a future edition, to take some of what the Wanderer's have but flesh it out and 'AoS' it, like the Lumineth did for high elves.
These people, the Idoneth Deepkin almost remind me of the dark eldar from 40k, yknow neing mysterious raiders that take terrified captives to use down in their hidden enclaves, but with a cool under sea theme! And yet they are unlike the "druhkari" (dark eldar) are weirdly somewhat justified in their raiding for souls, atleast as far as I know they don't torture their captives. I mean unless whatever funky ritual magic they use to feed their infants souls involves causing a lot of pain to the victims but who knows. Also them taking souls, making so many sacrifices so their children can live and grow makes them much more sympathetic. Idoneth Deepkin: "My beautiful baby daughters will live! They shall bury me one day, they will not go to the great beyond before me"! **Idoneth warrior exclaiming to a sacrifice as their soul is feed to the warrior's small, sickly infants**
Arvatron The IV something in the malign portent stories that I thought was neet. The story with Marathi and malarian. They were puling an aelf out of slaanesh that was not happy about tecles and tyrial it was mad at them. This aelf heard what Marathi and malaria were talking about and they threw it back lol. So how many aelfs had to suffer this fate. Slaanesh could easily make a deal with these aelfs who were thrown away by there own kind.
bob jones i am really not up to date on the malign portents but that would actully make sense and it would bw interesting if they got some kind of boost against order aelves (if it would happen)
ok first thing: love this video thanks for making it. second is a lore question: what would happen if deepkin and a sigmarine fight... would the deepkin be able to steal its soul and stop it from being reforged?
@@2Tough ooh so wile you actually responded to me.. question: about how long after something is released do you usually put videos out? cause im super hype for fyreslayers and slaanesh
@@oldman747 somewhere in the battletome it said they can't take stormcast souls. GW locked that path out lol, hard stuck allies now 😉. Oh well, all I care about is nagash gets smashed 😂😂
Sadly, no. The book clearly states that Mathlann is dead. It's strange that Daughters of Khaine says that Khaine is still able to be resurrected, but Mathlann is gone. 🤔
Doug, do you know how the humans and duardin came to exist in the mortal realms? Were they created by their respective god or did they come to be naturally? Sincerely, someone who enjoys your content.
Gustory humans and duardin are survivors of the World That Was (aka Warhammer Fantasy pre end times) they survived the world being torn asunder and forming the Mortal Realms
Hey Gustory! As Ken pointed out, there were actually quite a few survivors of the old world. How they managed it....no clue. As much as I love AOS lore, the Age of Myth is incredibly weak in terms of narrative. (the age of myth being that time when Sigmar explores the realms and rediscovers all the survivors).
You made a mistake referencing Frankenstein. Frankenstein was the scientist not the monster. The monster is referred to as ‘Adam’, religious references to adam first son of god. Otherwise gd video covering the lore. Love Idoneth deepkins duality myself.
I still don't understand why they decided to make Namartii blind and going so far as to make them completely eyeless. It just takes away from them imo.
Good video but I hate the aesthetic of this army, Sharks and Eels flying on land? Flying gigantic sea turtles?? Factions like this were one of those putting me off starting AoS.
An interesting analysis of the race and there overall character but I just don’t like them not in a story way more in an design way they are just WAY to pirates of the carabine. Fuck those movies sucked
