So basically the mortal realms are the same as the cosmology of Norse mythology. It has nine realms, which are unified by the world tree Yggdrasil. And realm gates are similar to the Bifrost and Gjallarbru bridges. Makes sense for an Epic Myth setting, but I still miss the Old World....
I doubt it. Warhammer fantasy was, for the most part, about the miserable lives of the old World`s common denizens, how everyday was a desperate struggle against incomprehensible uncontrollable threats. It was a grim dark existance yet even the common peasantry or an infantrymen about to be smashed by beastmen could squeeze some form of relatable humanity out of it all. AoS is all about mytical gods and demigods clashing against one another with no real relatable consequence. There is no ordinary people, nobody do actually matter to fight for. The struggle is beyond anything relatable and therefore meaningless. The problem is in the scope and scale of the premisse, not it`s age or level of detail. The setting is just sterile.
@@martinsgakke well where was the story supposed to go? Continue the same ol same ol for a small number of people? Or end the world that they Made and lacked ideas for to continue plus they probably lost passion to do so, then create a new one from the destruction of the old. It makes sense to me they deliver to a new generation and try to make it different for everyone, as they continue to add to the stories of the realms itll get better. See the bright side of things of it all or continue to be mad over a world the the creators destroyed.
@@justinallen2408 You have your answer in the longevity of 40K. Some complain that the lore is bloated but it serves as an amazing backdrop for different writers, producers, artists, etc… The new material you’d have are the new stories, games, figures, etc within said world and the old world with its multiple ages could have serviced this ambition.
You friend have earned a subscribe already. Now that I have seen some of these videos I want to thank you very much. My son and I are getting into Age of Sigmar Tabletop and you just made it about a million times more exciting. Thanks again!
+Robert Karlen thanks so much 😆 and welcome to my channel Robert. Yer I noticed that none of the pictures explained exactly what you are looking at in Azyr so I thought I'd help out 😆 next part should be out tomorrow fingers crossed! They take endless hours to write though!
Dude this is an AMAZING explanation! 🙏 I'm a fan of all warhammer series fantasy and 40k but I did't know much about AoS. You're introduction is the best I've seen. Really well and methodically made. I hope you bring more of these lore series. I especially liked how you explained the transition from the Old World and AoS universe. I hope GW don't screw things too much with AoS. I'm really hoping to read some good books and stories. I feel a little awkward for investing so much time in the Old World series and now GW basically destroyed that...😕
Yes! Keep going, this must be my favorit video of yours! As a lore geek and someone who has read most of the AoS novels and a fair amount of the warhammer fantasy ones as well (altho mostly the skaven ones + the end times prior to AoS) thoroughly enjoyed this :)
“I have 400 subscribers”.. checks and now sees 11.8k and smiles. I’m looking forward to the rest of the series. Thanks for explaining it so clearly and concisely.
If Sigmar was Abbaddon, Azyr was the Eye of Terror, and the Stormcast are the Black Crusades to retake the Galaxy- I mean the Realms- from his enemies. I like this D-day style campaign of liberation at the heart of the narrative.
+Michael Audley thanks Michael :) glad you are enjoying it. The stormcast make sense within the context of the story. And have some cool lore details that make them very separate from space marines but I take your point 😀
Age of Sigmar seems like such a weird mix of Fantasy & 40K with Norse influence. I feel like transforming so many Fantasy characters into divine beings in AoS was unnecessary. Though it is cool seeing how some people failed upwards in power.
Waiting for more lore videos already, your narrative was very good ;) Will you also expand this to all the old world lore someday? Maybe after you have "finished" the AoS stuff, waiting for new lore (if it'll ever happen xD)? Btw, just a little friendly advice, you should try to avoid "scrolling" between the "wrong" images so much in the video... I suppose you had a set of images in order and swapped while speaking since so many times there are just images on screen for a split second, that's what you should try to avoid... Edit the video in such a way to just have the wanted images on screen at any time and never for just a fraction of a second and maybe add a little transition here and there and I'd say the video would be just perfect ;) By seeing this video I suppose you just had that set of images and recorded your screen while speaking and scrolling between them... I may of course be extremely wrong, it's just my impression seeing those "fraction of a sec images on screen", but if I'm right consider that editing the video as I said with the right program would indeed take more time, but it's not so complicated and with very little practice would take less and less time and give way better results ;) and with time you may even have a lot of fun with editing in way more peculiar ways for special projects maybe ;) Anyway, keep up the good work ;)
thanks for the great feedback and advice :) the editing of these videos already takes me an age, so by the time I uploaded it I didn't have the inclination to switch out the awkward image changes here and there XD but i will do my best to improve it in future videos
I want to read some of the lore books, but it is kinda hard to figure out which ones to start with. Should it be a codex or one of the novels? Any suggestions where to start going through the lore the long way?
The battletomes are kinda hit and miss for overall lore, but can contain some gems. Also, they are the best place to start if you are interested in a specific faction
Hi! i want to start a Gutbusters Army for Sigmar and i need some guide..competitive list, etc.. someone can help:)? i heard that if i play with Destruccion i lose the combos of the faction..it's true? thanks!!
Although I am mainly a 40K fan and agree the lore in AoS is somewhat meh compared to the old world, I am hopeful that over the years they can make it better. Age of Sigmar is only what, like a couple years old? I say we give it time to get better. I doubt 40K or even the old Warhammer Fantasy was glorious in the early days.
Great video it made me a bit interested in the lore. I have a question though - I cant place the realms anywhere. Where are they? Are these some planets in space? And since there are gates it doesnt matter where they are in the galaxy? Since Old World was just one planet is stands to reason that the realms are planets too.
Great video, just got into AOS (been a 40k player for 8 years) and this really helped me gain an understanding of the lore. Can you recommend a starting point novels wise as i want to get into the lore more?
Subscribed! And my first comment on RU-vid. Really like your videos. Would love to know as a noob to the hobby where to start with some reading too. Big fan of 'Death' and Nagash so waiting for your video on some reading. As an Idea maybe target each Alliance and recommendations for each could be good. Keep up the good work.
U know what, your already better then Arch warhammer who says stupid shit inbetween the lore and sounds like a smart ass as he gives u his opinion and makes the video twice as long, wich makes it seem like hes narrating a DND game. And your better than majorkill, who i honestly think is depressed and makes everything sound more vulgar and personal in the lore then it already is, wich takes either alot of skill or a man who has had a few beers and is mad about something in his life. So well done kit. If i WAS to give advice i would say give a bit more detail on certain things in events, for example the stormcast soul was a soul of a warrior who had fallen in battle as well, it wasnt just some great warrior who had fallen in battle to chaos and got embedded with amazing power and reforged by sigmar etc etc u get what i mean. His soul was. And also things like each realm and how u tell the audience to see them as different dimensions. U should elaborate more on that. And what realm mallus was in before azyre. Because i got confused around that part. Otherwise good job. As a veiwer your the best lore teller of warhammer so far in my eyes.👏
Thanks so much 😃😃 yer I am intending on going into more detail about the stormcast in a further video. This video is just an intro. If you watch part 2, I then backtrack and start going into more detail. I have a new ten part lore series coming out soon by the way so stay tuned
and here I was thinking they made 40K to have warhammer in space, but now they literally put the old hammer in space too. Im gonna keep pretending AoS does not exist, the world did not come to an end, the more I learn of AoS lore, the more I hate it. "were more than mortal men" only thing missing is "they are steel and they are doom" because they are literally fucking space marines.
+MrAnimepredator fair enough. I respect your opinion. There are definitely some strong parallels between AoS and 40k. But very different settings and still quite a lot to distinguish them in my opinion. I'm hoping that now the realm gate wars has finished, AoS will start to distinguish itself more and branch out into totally new narratives. But thanks for the feedback either way 😀
I'll probably be the first critique you have for the video. :( Not three minutes in and I couldn't keep on listening mainly because of all the plosives. And I suppose its my fault for expecting this, but I had initially thought you were going to give us a quick meaty rundown of the lore. Instead, I was greeted with what felt like an over the top narration for AoS rather than a summation of the introductory part of the lore. But yeah, that's more my fault for expecting from your video at face value so feel free to ignore that bit. All in all, just fix your plosives and stuff and I'll be happy to listen to a remastered and hopefully more condensed lore again. A pop filter isn't really that expensive and I would suggest you get two and layer them up to really get rid of your plosives!
+StringStorm thanks for the feedback :) i appreciate it. I actually do use a pop filter but i guess it isn’t enough. My microphone is very sensitive. Also, Yeah it’s more of a narrative thing going on. I guess i could do a more straight up summary too. thanks for the suggestions :)
Yea, the guy did excellent work on the video, but I just can't ever get over what they did to one of the best fantasy universes ever :/ I mean, I'm ok with the destruction of the world and all, that was always the inevitable ending, but what came after didn't have to be so bad.
@@S.Grenier Well they had to rewrite the fantasy. remember that Warhammer fantasy was 50 years old. it had not a unified lore for the first 20 years of its existence and the first versions were extremely clunky. it took WHF a long time to become the gem it became. Give AoS time and it will become more dense. The lore is still better then many other fantasy settings imo
