Hello everyone, welcome to the announcement for Age of Wonders 4: Eldritch Realms! The fourth DLC for Age of Wonders 4 and its swiftly approaching release date of June 18th was announced yesterday, so I thought I'd continue tradition by going over the Dev Diary starting at 0:31 and pointing out all of the new stuff I noticed in the dev stream starting at 23:24. Feel free to let me know what you think about the DLC or any character suggestions you may have for future polls and thanks for watching and see you next week for the new Tomes of Magic! Tzeentch is just a given. Honestly, you could do him with any of the optipns in this dlc like fleshweaving, wild magic, potential, etc. C'thun would be fun with the mod that gives you wild magic, and you focus on casting as much random magic as possible with Chaos eater to make that strategy viable. A biblically accurate angel leading a crusade would be cool. And your flavor of insectoid hive mind swarm would be equally fun either Tyranids, Zerg, Klackons, Necrophages.
The stream also showed off the unit enchantment from the Tome of the Tentacle: battlemages and supports apply constrict on their regular attack. Also the tome unit applies constrict on a regular attack. Reavers are going to love that because of their Overseer's subdue ability.
On the topic of Dwellings, I don't remember much about their implementation in AOW 3, however I adored the way theu worked in Planetfall. Granted, there they were extensive by necessity since they pulled double duty and were standing in for free cities as well. But having both systems eventually implemented in AoW4 would be baller.
The Eldritch Sovereigns look so fucking cool, I can't fucking wait to have this in my hands I NEED IT GODDAMN IT I wanna make a whole lovecraftian pantheon already
Tentacles! Greatly hyped for the new DLC. Also very much interested in what the devs are going to make for the game after this, this "it's can't be called DLC" is mighty sus. Eagerly awaiting for your glorious return, Fabe!
Oh man, this expansion pack is shaping up to be pretty big! I was wondering how they were going to do eldritch stuff and I'm not disappointed at all, it looks very cool. I like the eldritch themed tomes, but I'm pretty interested in upgrading my reaver colonials with that holy tomb since they already have a slight religious theme to them, and I think invading the eldritch realms with tanks and magelocks will be fun. Also, that change to the magelocks themselves, I'm really glad they implemented that. I could strategize around them needing all three points to fire, but it was very limiting at times. Hopefully this DLC isn't the last one we get, though judging by the cool rework to the Mystic culture I have a feeling that this isn't going to be the last one for the game, I think they might have plans to add more content and upgrade the already existing cultures with more variants. Here's hoping anyway, I've been very pleased with this season pass and the support for the game and I'd definitely buy another. Thanks for making this breakdown Fableheim!
I'm conflicted, I created Sorceress, made her Naga, thinking of transforming her to Fiend, or not, with this DLC, I have third option, to remake her as Eldritch Sovereign
Reminder that the proc chance of Lucky (and Very Lucky) scaled with the unit's morale in AoW3. Going from not being able to proc at "Very Low" to having double the chance at "Very High". Combined with a unit's base morale being determined by the morale of the city it was produced in it was easy to get Halflings that could ignore damage 20% of the time.
@@Fableheim think about it halfling rogue who deploys shades, halflings also hated most terrain beside fertile plains and forrest so any terrain outside that and that trait were dogwater
Didn't want to bring it up to avoid a bloated comment but guess I'm gonna do it here. Halflings were "balanced" by having a weakness to physical damage (the most common type) and hating four out of the game's six climates (a penalty usually strong enough to knock a unit down two morale states). The problems being that weakness are situational and, with strong enough of a base morale through city improvement and terraforming, a halflings unit won't drop into very low morale in hated climates and will always have some degree of Lucky. Also Necromancer in AoW3 and that can of emotional dead but always have High Morale units due to a researched perk.
@@Fableheim Watched WinSlayaGaming's video, he raised good question, can you turn mind controlled units into a Warbreed, if answer is YES, we may still have some fun.
You need to read the fine print on Monstrous Rebirth. Do not work on Magic Origin or Construct units. So would not work on most summons. (If any. Even the mundane seeming like the houndmasters wardogs are magic origin. But take that in to note for you magic origin builds) I do wonder if you could get resurgence on one, however. And how that would work.
It's always the fine print ruining my fun! In the final combat of the dev stream, they cast Resurgence on a Fleshling, but it did not appear post-combat. My guess is that the same would occur for the Warbreed. :\
@@Fableheim I am guessing so, too. But I would test it out just to see what happens. My guess is that it pretty airtight from exploits. But it is always fun to try. And we have seen some good examples of wacky combination in the game. And synergizing is always part of the game anyway. Do not patch stuff is not too broken. ;)
They have confirmed that there will be more content! They reiterated during the stream while remaining cryptic, but it's also in writing on the steam anniversary post here: store.steampowered.com/news/app/1669000/view/4208127528886961513?l=english
