Fun fact. Tori's Japanese VA played an Agent Deck at tournaments and promotional events for Zexal and was very good with it. It's why some video games feature her with that archetype.

I remember joseph tweeting a few weeks ago campaigning for History, these top decks require practice to master to truly show how elaborate and thought-driven some of these lists were and getting thrown a list and only a few hours beforehand to review it would be a disservice to these YCD champion builds - that must've been for this episode. I totally get it now. just looking at that plant list, i don't think i'd be able to deduce what the optimal lines are without practice - and that makes sense for these championship winning decks. Still! I do like the wheel that shows the depth of diversity for some of these formats. maybe some wheels after these champion matches? keep up the great work team

Billy actually played at my locals quite a bit and I played him final round table, one of a regionals a around the time The underworld structure deck came out. I was playing 6. Samurai at a time where most people thought they had fallen off, I had just boarded to face agents and underworld which I demolished throughout the tournament but Billy stop me 2-0 with this deck.

That's one of the reasons the plant synchro family of decks are among my favourite decks in the history of this game. You really felt rewarded for taking the time to learn the deck and practice the various matchups. It's such a shame what happens to the deck next limited list update but that's how it goes sometimes lol.

I used to play Chaos Agents too. I was waiting for Cimo to banish Venus from his hand for Hyperion, and make Leviair with the Tour Guides to bring Venus back and just swarm the field with his BLS in his hand while getting Gachi up too with the Shine Balls. In other words, I think he could've won before the Black Rose nuked the field and Kristya came down. I honestly think the Chaos build became a little stronger once Uranus was released too.😊

25:35 Correct me if I’m wrong, but Couldn’t Cimmoo go lethal here summoning leviair, then banish Venus from hand to summon Hyperion, use Levianeer to summon Venus, get 2 shine ball, turn them into Gachi Gachi, then summon bls, you can clear the tengus with Venus, then gachi gachi when the second Tengu gets summoned into defence (Gachi being at 900 vs 700 DEF Tengu) and running the last Tengu (regardless of battle position, default with DEF) in with BLS, then easy going lethal with a second attacking 3400 BLS, 2200 Leviair and 3100 Hyperion, or if the second Tengu gets summoned in ATK, you can just run BLS into it, dealing 1700 on top of the 300 from venus, then use the second attack from BLS to clear the last Tengu, then go with 900+2200+3100 = 6200 direct, so 8200 damage in total. Edit: Originally I summoned a third shine ball, but that misses lethal due to zone limit, so the calculations are now modified accordingly.

@@ComfortableStraightjacket Maxx C only helps when Gorz is in hand/will be drawn (and might have been chained after tour guide resolves) Veiler needs to hit either Leviair to stop the combo or Gachi/BLS to stop the OTK + Black Rose/Dark hole to punish. The question is whenever Gorz was drawn next turn (out of 3 drawn cards) or already in hand because that’s the harshest 1 card punish. (Line would be second and third Tengu yo Def, then eat the second attack if BLS direct and get a 3400 token off Gorz.). Considering this, the correct way would be to attack with Leviair first, so we can Run Venus into the Gorz/it’s token if MBT summons either in attack to clear the token with Hyperion.

I unironically played sanctuary in the sky. Being able to search hyperion and a double pop, as well as the counter trap that goes with sanctuary. But I guess it's more of a control budget version.

I am shocked they just didnt play just 1 sanctuary. If you draw it you can get even more powerful effects, and if you dont you still have a competent deck. I guess its just another brick though.

I hope next week Dark World is acknowledged. Grapha, Snoww, and the field spell made the deck viable during this time. Not to mention Dragged Down into the Grave combined with mind crush is brutal. Some Dark World decks included Ceruli as well.

Agents are far and away my favorite archetype in the game, and I'm absolutely stoked for the upcoming support... even though I don't think they're going to be dominating competitive play again any time soon. The shine ball bricks may be frustrating, but god is it worth it when you're summoning them nine times in a single turn!

Cimooo had lethal on the turn he summoned Gantetsu in game 2. He just needed to special summon Hyperion, and it would have had 3100 ATK. Even with MBT having Gorz, Hyperion would have clinched the game that turn.

This was the format I became competitive. While playing at my college prior, this is the format I started to go to locals very frequently. I played Machina Gadgets which were able to beat T.G. Stun to give me my first locals top 8 (30+ players), and X-Sabers, super budget version even, was able to beat GK, GB, Tengu Plants in top 4, but lost another Tengu Plant deck in the finals, but it was my first ever locals top 2, so that was sweet. It will take a few more formats for me to win a locals, but from this point until Nekroz format, I was actively playing in a competitive locals every week. I can't wait to relive all these memories again through this series! ♥️♥️♥️

Man till i got back into IRL a few years ago, this was my peak of playing on DN. I played Sabers from late 5Ds right through Zexal, i think i might have played Dark World and Agents once or Twice but Saber was my baby, shame it's not as good now but i still have my dinos, another example of "buy 3 structures and you have most of a competitive deck". At least it was back in 2017, now you need scrap engine, a ton of handtraps, expensive ass extra deck, archosaur. I miss 2009-2014

You'd love 2010/Edison format then! One of the best Deck of the format is Fairy goodstuff and it has tooons of variation. (Kristya Control, Athena OTK, Heralds...)

Game 2 "Let's see if I can find lethal" with a Hyperion and an Earth in hand to banish for it. It wasn't a hard lethal to find.

This structure was one of my first decks when I was just getting into the game as a kid…. Funnily enough, as a kid I thought Earth was HORRIBLE I basically played dig for Hyperion turbo and that won almost every game 😂

Isn't the side decking rule that you can't remove a card, you have to replace it with another? Doesn't Dueling Book enforce that? Did MBT fuck something up and they re-recorded for games 2 and 3?

I love agents so much, this is one of my favorite decks and im happy it got support. Also would not have really changed that much game 2 since Cimoooo won anyways but u can summon hyperion by banishing a "The agent" monster from the hand which would have been game against the gorz.

This is really truly when I feel archetypes become good. Before you might see decks on occasion like six Sam that were mostly archetype cards but for the most part a hero deck would be like 10 main deck hero cards and then a bunch of good stuff or just these good stuff synchro decks that you saw such as early tengu plants and other things like that.

Funny how MBT came back to the game just at this time, because it was exactly the same as I did, I came back on this format after playing exclusively playground yugioh and some small tournaments being a literal child. This is my favorite format of all time, feels like modern yugioh but not too overwhelming that it was easy enough to come back and understand. Great games btw! I played agent too!

I am amazed how similar the Agents deck is to my monster mash deck. I literally substituted out the spells and traps from the list with Gallis the Star Beasts, Sephylon the Ultimate Timelords, Vanity's Fiends, and more BLS. It's one of my main decks to this day, albeit with some banlist updates.

I absolutely love this format. I mostly play Karakuri, but also Worm is a shitload of fun. I hope that when History of Jank gets to this point one of you plays that godforsaken Nordic deck that somehow got top 32 at that YCS. My friend tried to put that together, and it was just horrible.

yugioh was really good around, games weren't one turn there combos and choices and the structure decks made competitive yugioh really cheap that a 12 year old me (come from quite a poor family) could get three agent structures for Christmas and win locals with it.

I remember doing something similar with three dragunity structures and a handful of staples we had on hand. Granted I didn't ever top with it, the one time I got to top cut at locals I lost to infernity first round, but I was at least able to beat people with it.

This was my debut in competitive Yugioh. I played Synchro Plant and. Agent's so both good sets. MY first video on Necrovallet channel was the Sept1 Banlist video at the time I believe either that or March 1st. I can't remember it was so long ago.

I actually played Plant Synchro at this point and the reason I remember it worked this effectively was because while harder to get, Limiting most of the cards also unclogged the deck.

That Agent recipe is very unrefined, everyone saw Agents as a Combo/Mid Range deck at first, but later on with the inclussion of Cards from the Sky into the build and more focus into the backrow staples and Herald of Orange Light, the plan shifted to Control, the goal now is to draw and make Earth survive for really strong Synchro plays with Venus, at that time a lvl 7 Synchro + Gachi Gachi and Kristya as a follow up seemed almost unbeatable. Thats the reason why that specific way of deckbuilding Agents won that year Worlds, the highroll potential was just absurd at that time.

Agents was played like you describe right after the structure launched. Before BLS was unbanned the best version of agents was mono light. I don't think everyone played cards from the sky in it, but the people at worlds in 2011 did. But the worlds format was a bit different. I might be missing a reason, but there was no Tengu and no priority which made plant synchro a lot worse. So it was a slow enough format you could get away with Cards from the Sky. Also worlds was based on the March banlists. September was the one that unlocked BLS.

It would have been cool to see Fishborg before it was banned. Frognarch decks that abused it and Genex Undine were actually pretty successful. Some Plant decks even threw in the water engine. Oh well, maybe in History of Jank.

Master Hyperion is still my most favourite deck ever, creature swapping Sangan or those stupid white balls with BLS just feels great, the time where gachi-gachi pass is enough to defend your field for 1 turn

OH NO. Hyperion can suck a throbbing rooster. My brother ran it, and the amount of degenerate stuff I had to run to counter it was obscene. I essentially had to invent Chaos Fabled to counter it. Edit: Good thing Cimo had no idea how to use it.

@@Blah3210 I think that's the way my brother ran it, though he ran it as a budget-friendlier Fairy spam than the $450 Tour Guide package (which was to say a playset of Tour Guide). Maybe a Sealed Saturday or History of Jank will get to show it off. (And I really hope Fabled makes History of Jank...)

@@draketheduelist My friend played a well-rounded 50-card deck that was far less likely to brick on Shine Balls or field spells (you only need two Sanctuaries anyway since Zeradias can search for it). The higher card count allowed him to play plenty of toolbox cards which weren't in Cimo's deck and could get him out of any jam. Cimo's deck on the other hand may have gotten 2nd place at a tournament, but the lower card count and overabundance of monsters ironically made it far more likely to brick at the start or fall apart later on if you lost momentum.

Small detail, but i played back in the day and sangan triggering when detaching wasn't as clear, nobody was really sure how to rule it and it was ruled differently at different events, it wasn't all sangan triggering everywhere before they clarified the ruling. Hope i remembered this correctly

Lost sanctuary was my most powerful deck for a while...even just in its base form sanctuary in the sky and all....i mean it makes it so earth searches hyperion...just an all around good deck
