They do. The reason they're not always called over is because the signs and declarations and instructions -- if they fill them out in English (they're all available in their language (Australia has an insane amount of varying languages available to make sure everyone can truly understand), they're fine to converse. They have many bilingual and multilingual officers, but for the purposes of tv…. And not all officers want to be filmed. I have overheard people on flights discussing how to “hide” their things from customs…

It's because we are too soft - we rarely issue fines and then the amount of the fine is laughable - the fine should equal $ amount of goods confiscated e.g.value of 3000 cigarettes PLUS a fine for having broken the law - in the case of illegal organic material (seeds / food) the fine should represent the potential damage to the environment - as someone has commented here, noxious seeds can cost the country into the billions. AND if the smuggler is not a citizen they should immediately be denied entry - if a citizen, a mandatory prison sentence. Either the importation of noxious organic items is damaging to the environment or it is not.

That security agent who stopped Mr Nicotea-n, is totally inept. The man REPEATEDLY goes fishing around in his luggage, takes a phone call, reaches back in & all he has to do is ignore her passive pleading. She might be pleasant, she might be intelligent, well-informed & a joy to be around - but she seems to lack the deliberate nature you need when dealing with people like Mr Nicotea-n. The moment he picked up his phone & answered it is when she should have called for security - and not that wiry translator, but someone who isn't afraid to restrain someone. Of COURSE, he won't take you seriously, he's been picking away at his luggage while you search it & all he got was a "sir, please don't". @@michaelhmiles there is a huge value in ancient seeds and seeds for plants and vegetables that you would have to otherwise have to import for a lot of $$$. The reason why a lot of them are banned to be cultivated other than by specialized and certified growers. Is because if they ever spread, they might completely take over or at least disrupt the environment they are not native to. The weird thing with the Korean ‘student’, is that a certificate 4 in Australia does not take 4 years. A cert 4 is below any university course; it is more like a bridging certificate, and can (easily) be completed in under 18 months even at part time engagement.

@@Random_user_8472 I did a cert 4 IT course. And there was a girl from Japan residing here for the course. @@boblouden6663 That's really cool and true. Japanese girls can be so amazing beautiful, as well they are intelligent, respectful, disciplined and humble, also hard working. And yeah, girls and their jealousy... it's a never ending story. Some people are so focussed on other people's qualities that they don't see their own qualities anymore, a self-blindness. I live in Perú myself and I speak a little Spanish, most of my communication I do with an app too, it works great (my previous comment about that wasn't that seriously meant).

I flew from Canada to Australia in 2006. My advice for everyone: Be Prepared. Once you have your baggage and you're "free to go", no, you might not be. Depending on your situation (I went there as a single guy, no one with me), you might get approached by airport security asking for details on where you're going and for how long. Have your passport ready. Have your itinerary ready (if you don't know what that is, Google it, and then make one). Don't just show up at Sydney Airport and think you're going on a random adventure. Australian officials don't like random. lol 3:51 He looks C O N C E R N E D. 9:37 When your hair REALLY wants to party. 19:30 I'm sorry but we're way past the point where a second person should have been present for this. If the country speaks for example English in addition to their local dialect then many international students will just try to get by with English and if it's their 2nd language then a lot of them will have mediocre English grammar
