"Doubt is the beginning of truth" What a great quote!

As someone who could be called agnostic, IDK what this had to do with my beliefs. Of course I've made a hard attempt to go with where evidence compels me to goe- that's why I deconverted from Christianity. I don't think I have anything in my soul that is "this little thing that only Christianity can explain". It was refreshing to hear the "do you have the will to go where the truth leads you even if it would make you an atheist" but I think that sort of mind set is much more common in agnostic circles than Christian ones so IDK what the point being made really was.

Why are you agnostic? What premises do you deny?

@@tomato-ir9xs I'm Catholic, born and raised, but I've been very curious about other world views. Most recently I've been looking into Islam for the sake of understanding it. No interest in converting. It's fascinating to see the parallel argument strategies. They really boldy proclaim that "true reason and logic" will lead people to accept Allah and the Qur'an. It made me realize how one's faith can feel firm by simply remaining in an echo chamber and by sheer force of will to sustain a certain way of life. I'm still Catholic, but I do find rigidity to be highly problematic. I like Reza Aslan's proposal that religion is a language, a collection of stories that gives us tools to sort out spiritual and metaphysical matters and to unite a group. Pardon my semi-coherent rambling. Just had an assortment of thoughts to share.

the point is "doubt is the beginning of truth." you can not escape God's Love even if our limited minds attempt to. God will keep beckoning even when we deny his existence. Viva Cristo Rey.

Oh, wow. Loved this. Going to share with my daughter who claims she is Agnostic. I don't think she is, but this may be food for thought. I think she feels it is too painful to believe in God, Christ, and the Holy Spirit.

A good place to start would be respecting your daughter's awareness of her interior world. She knows her mind better than you know her mind. Usually when a child tells a parent something like this, they are showing the parent the tip of the iceberg, trying to see how they react. Saying you don't believe your daughter is a very bad start.

@My Miscellany I never said I didn't believe her. She is well into her 40s, and I have never disrespected her beliefs and/or opinions. But I have shared my own beliefs and opinions with her. I will never stop praying that she comes back to the church (even though she has asked me not to). One of my other two children also claims to be agnostic. He served 5 tours in the Middle East and said that if this is all God has to offer of mankind, he is not impressed. My other child is a doctor and is quite devout in his faith. Each one of my children and grown grandchildren know that I love them and respect them very much. (However, I will never stop praying for them to come back to the church.)

@Dark Angel Thank you. I have suggested his videos before. She said she got bored. She is a grown woman with two grown children. I have to be careful that I don't overstep or am overly insistent. She knows. She was brought up in the Church. Thank you for the suggestion.

Well it is because all this horrendous stuff is happening in the world and yet God is meant to be loving. Read the old testament and see God is the opposite.

I'm agnostic and I don't care about people who hold different opinions. The truth of the reality is that no human can know "the truth". It's impossible. People who say the know for sure are simply lying. It doesn't matter how smart a philosopher or a scientist is, at the end of the day he is just a puny human who doesn't have nearly enough information.

@@neil9171 if you don't know what grounds you're belief then you're applying double standards, for you formed a very sweeping generalization without nearly enough information.
