All Nigerians pray that the foremost General J. T. U Aguiyi-Ironsi , may NEVER be forgotten in Africa for effectively ending the colonial control of Africa's military. It will soon be 50 years since this pre-eminent soldier was killed by the lowly coward Theophilus Danjuma who has only since succeeded in simply vandalizing the entire Nigeria. May Nigerians wake up from their foolishness and slumber by shuning ignorance, and collectively celebrate a true hero like Aguiyi-Ironsi !

Nigeria might have been better if Ironsi continued. He's objective was only to bring order to chaos and then hand the federation back to the civilians. This first coup was not to bring Ironsi to power to fix the imbalance in the federation lead by Northern Elites. Read Why We Struck by Ademoyega. Ademoyega explains everything about the first coup.

History is about to repeat itself. We already have three of the four characters that created the situation that led to the Civil War. We already have a new Sir Ahmadu Bello (Gen Mohammadu Buhari), we have a new S.L. Akintola (Ashiwaju Bola Tinubu), we even have a new Nzeogwu (Nnamdi Kanu). The only part of the quartet that is missing is an Ifeajuna (the intellectual guy who comes to help Nzeogwu to crystallize his 'rebelion' into an actionable movement). We must preempt another war by taking the initiative now! We must peacefully and earnestly ask for a negotiated Biafra now BEFORE the new naive but well-meaning Nzeogwus take the action that leads all of us down the path of another Civil War!
@BruceWayne-en3dm

+Anne Francis Elizabeth We are also missing an Ojukwu in this Civil War scenario.
@xeduxion4698

Very comical yet not a laughable matter. It's life and death! So the missing link to balance the crystallization equation are Ujukwu and rambling Awolowo!

The General just found himself in Power in the midst of confusion and complete anarchy! He was being wary of the press, the western etc. I think he was being careful in speech as he was not one of those predetermined criminals who preplanned their atrocities in the form of formalities before coming to power. It's a pity Gen. JTU Ironside was careful for long. May his soul rest in peace!

There is just so much wrong with the way this man was assassinated together with Fajuyi. I keep scratching my head and wondering...was it necessary to have him killed.?. It shows how trigger happy the military boys were those days, acting with impulse and not controlled reason. It is clear Aguiyi Ironsi had no hand in the Coup of January...although he was slow to act on punishing those coup plotters (another bunch of trigger happy youthful exhuberant kids), there was no malice in his game. He is just like that, and they killed him, for what?....It is those senseless killing of our leaders that we are all paying for today

Bode Olajumoke The atmosphere then was too charged, and I think the greatest error he made was to scrap the region and introduce unitary system. It was a very wrong timing. Very dangerous.
@Zaramoku
@Zaramoku 8 лет назад
+Lekan Wasiudeen You wrote as if he "scrapped the regions and introduced unitary system" unilaterally. Were that the case, why didn't those who overthrew him reverse his action? The truth was and still is that those who overthrew him voted in the Supreme Military Council on all measures he took. His fellow Igbos perceived him as a northern stooge then, because he was more interested in assuaging the demands of the North than taking real charge of things. His "cluelessness" cost him his life and also cost Igbo insurmountable setbacks.

Talk2me9ja. I look forward to the day when you can have a matured conversation about Nigeria and Nigerians. Your aggressive tone is probably similar to the guys I mentioned above as it relates to being trigger happy. Maybe you should calm down, take a deep breath and reconstruct your arguments better ...I. wish you peace in your heart

I dont' why people come on here to type things they don't know.Ironsi came to power based on the fact the Ist republic was done,He didnt ask for it.......Him being an officer and gentleman,a professional solider @ that,he knew the military has no place ruling.He has a plan to handover to an elected civilian government.But when someone comes in here and doubt his military credentials thats absurd.No Nigerian Army General past or present came close to this fine officer.In fact how many Generals have been to a war now in the Nigerian Army?The British calls him "Ironside",He flow on a civilian plane to seek release of Aussies captured by dreadful rebels when no-one would want to and was awarded a medal by a foreign country.Medal today r just pinned to the breast of cowards for plotting coups and looting the treasury.Folks,before u become a noble laureate for literature on youtube,do read an actual book.That helps reducing ignorance by 80%.

Razor I'Uomo Could he have reconstituted the government by handing over to the most senior Parliamentarian as stated by the constitution?
@razoriuomo3377
@razoriuomo3377 9 лет назад
Absolutely,he would have done that.First off,arrest all the coup plotters,strengthen the country with calm by designating the police to volatile areas and if need be the military.Call for the Parliamentary leadership in each parties,then they could reach on a quorum voting to establish a new or continuation government.Now then,the general would go announcing that the country has been saved and things are now back to normalcy:Back to civil rule.
@Zaramoku
@Zaramoku 8 лет назад
+Lekan Wasiudeen The constitution did not state what you claimed above. Also, the civilian government Ministers, after not being able to resolve their differences as to who would succeed Balewa (there was no deputy PM), handed over power to him with the mandate to restore peace and security. After the fact, some of them have denied ever handing over to him just to justify the false narrative conjured up about Igbo's planned coup in order to take over the country. This type of dishonesty is why Nigeria is a useless country and will remain so until people begin to tell the truth, however bitter it may be.

@@Zaramoku Well said. Those fucking fulani Jihadist parasites are the bane of our problems in Nigeria. They hold everyone to Ransom so progress cannot be achieved. The whole damn country is held back and moves at their pace. Buhari for instance has no business whatsoever ruling a hamlet, talkless or a country.

It's not about underestimating anyone, it's about a Man trying to gently heal a wounded Nation and started a very inclusive leadership, but foolish enough to trust people from whom he should be expecting vengeance. This is the only weakness of the Igbo , trying to make Nigeria work as a Nation. Don't forget why Nzeogwu eliminated Sarduan who became a catalyst to ruin the new nation with his Tribalism. Yoroba man, grow some Brain, stop hating the Igbo man but try to understand him. Danjuma is today regretting killing his Boss because Fulani are wiping out his people too, FOOLISHNESS of hating the Igbo Man.
