AGV K5 Helmet Review
www.revzilla.co...
After a grand opening in the European market, the AGV K5 Helmet is now coming to America. By taking much of what they have learned throughout the development of premium race helmets for the greatest riders in the world (i.e. the Pista GP for Valentino Rossi) and tailoring it for a more street-oriented platform, the team at AGV has been able to make the new K5 an aggressively shaped, feature-rich option for those of us not dropping the hammer in MotoGP. From the Carbon, Kevlar, and Fiberglass weave that gives the outer shell its lightweight feel, to the high-flow ventilation system that moves air throughout, the K-5 helmet from AGV is sure to bring a great deal of excitement to the American market.

I had to watch this video before I understood how to open the chin vents. Just got the helmet and the manual is not very clear there so thanks.

Finally! You got them!! I love my K5. Only negative I have about the helmet is...what...on ...earth...where they thinking with that "nose guard" its completely useless in cold weather. I've had mine for 4 months now if anybody has any questions :)

+JustplainZero I agree, I just got back tonight from traveling a round trip across Canada and the guard pretty much only got in the way of me shoving quick food in my face when I didn't want to take the helmet off at a fuel stop. Plus side to that though is sometimes my helmet still smelled like chocolate a bit after a protein bar. This helmet has great venting but a pin lock is still something I wanted. One thing they really nailed for me is the ear space and how well my Cardo Packtalk (same one as the guy in the video is using) speakers fit inside without pressing uncomfortably on my ears. I would say the only thing that kind of annoyed me is the final detent. I found myself wishing for a smaller gap. The gap is to large and the feature to crack the visor from the front is too small of a gap. Something in-between would have worked perfectly for when you are in heavy rain moving slowly. Note: My experience may be different then others since I did my tour on a Triumph Street Triple Rx.. a naked sport bike with essentially zero wind protection.

+JustplainZero How is wind noise with this helmet? Even with ear plugs my current (and slightly old) HJC is unbearable over distance when doing 50+mph so I'm very interested in how this AGV fares! Cheers :)

Terrible wind noise. I bought swimming plugs and I still have quite a bit of noise.

+JustplainZero Hi! I noticed from the videos that K5 has a tiny gap right above the visor removal mechanism. How does it hold in the rain? Does the water seep in?
@justplainzero5286

Ive used mine all through Winter. I've not had an issue, it seals pretty well, however its nose guard is terrible, this helmet is not as good in colder weather as it fogs up. The opposite is true for warm weather, its airflow is superior to my old Shark

Shoei fits me so damn well but I just picked one of these up on sale, $489aud down to $345 and it fits awesome with eyeglasses underneath. So glad the k5 fit because the k3 just did not sit on my head right at all. Awesome helmet for its price. Chinese made but so is the bike I'm currently looking at so can't complain ;)
@vainparasite
@vainparasite 7 лет назад
Its a good spec helmet but in the semi tuck or whatever he called it the vision is impaired if you use a pinlock visor insert. In that position you are looking right through the top of the visor. To me this helmet is better as a sit up style bike 🖒

Hey Drew, I'm thinking about buying the K-5 or the Rpha st. Both great helmets i think. I'm riding a 2008 FZ1 GT so wich one should be the best choise. By the way, loving your reviews, keep up the good work 👍
@RevZilla
@RevZilla 8 лет назад
+Gino Engel Both are great choices for your bike and riding style, and both use a strong and light composite construction. Therefore, I might recommend you decide based on fit. The K5 is an intermediate oval (though a little egg-shaped: slightly wider behind the ears, slightly narrower at the temples), whereas the RPHA ST is intermediate to slightly round oval. -DrewZilla

Hey Bro, Shiraz from NY. Love all your hard work and review, and would love to buy the K5 but how come we (USA) don't have the K5 E2205 Multi - Hero Black/Red (right from agv's website) My bike is black and red. And that's the model i would like. Any advice?
@RevZilla
@RevZilla 8 лет назад
That's a question for AGV, not us. AGV is only carrying the red version in the UK and perhaps Europe. In the US, we only get the yellow version. We aren't the importer, so we only can carry what AGV decides to import. -DrewZilla

Hi.I was watching this and the GT Veloce review, and as magic, you mentioned them both here.If it were up to you,which one you'd choose between them 2 for a superbike user, no long distances to cover, some track,etc.I'm thinking in comparing quality of the helmet, protection, (not so much bothered by the) weight, other functionality . I'm really torn and don't know what to pick
@RevZilla
@RevZilla 8 лет назад
If you aren't so bothered by the slight weight difference, I recommend you decide based on whether you want an internal sun visor or not. The K5 is a bit heavier due to the shell and the sun visor, but many also find it convenient. -DrewZilla
@RealDarkBlade
@RealDarkBlade 8 лет назад
Thank you for the quick reply.I was leaning more towards K5. The visor is something I'd want since the weather around here can change quickly. A bit embarrassing that I haven't found your channel until now, but I plan on getting up to speed with everything from reviews to guides. Thanks again

AGV needs to re-do their faceshield mechanism, it feels so flimsy and it doesn't seal well, its the same mechanism they used on the horizon which i had, it always had a whistling noise due to a hairline gap between the faceshield and the thin gasket, they need to beef up the gasket and come with a better closing mechanism

Great, great frustration.I traveled more than 1000 km with this helmet "Hurricane k5". It was a big disappointment because wind noise is felt already at 80 kmh....but traveling at 130 kmh means entering a hurricane.....and after two hours you risk of destroying the eardrum !!!!!!! Only solution are earplugs. :-( :-( lamps
@nickam4100
@nickam4100 8 лет назад
You should wear earplugs at those speeds anyway mate.

agree with nick. earplugs are a must on any road bike. god knows how i used to ride without them anyway.

Also aside from the weight savings (which i don't care about, because i live in NY and I only get to ride for a few months and only on weekends) Would you just say "save your money Shiraz and get a K3 SV? Again to confirm NO OTHER DIFFERENCE except weight?

Hi! I tried an "HJC RPHA 70" in S. It`s fit perfect. It has an "intermediate oval shape", like this. Problably will it be even gut for me?

Yes, if you fit the RPHA 70 in S, then you could likely fit this K5 in size S. -DrewZilla

Is the k5 or k5s ECE rated?? a store nearby said they werent, and some online retailers are saying they are/arent.
@RevZilla
@RevZilla 5 лет назад
The versions sold here in the US aren't officially ECE-rated, as it's not a legal requirement here. However, they're still built to the same level to surpass the ECE testing just like the versions sold in Europe. -DrewZilla

Hey...in the begining of the summer i bought my k5 and i love it besides his vision. i have a 600rr and i don't feel 100% comfortoble and when i go it a tuck position i can't see, i'm alwalys battleing between seeing and not messing with my neck and jackt. my question is...do you think the gt veloce is better in those terms? Does it have a more taller vision? Thank guys!
@RevZilla
@RevZilla 9 лет назад
+J CMM Yes, the GT Veloce will give you a bit taller vision, and it should also give you a bit more room at the back of the neck, so it shouldn't interfere with your jacket as much. -DrewZilla

@RevZilla
@RevZilla 9 лет назад
+Munteanu Cristian If you ride in more of a 3/4 to full tuck riding position, I'd go for the K5. If you have a more upright riding position, go for the RPHA ST. Otherwise, it comes down to whichever fits better. -DrewZilla

@RevZilla

Honestly, either would be fine. If you want the convenience of the internal sun visor, I'd go for the K5. If that doesn't matter to you, then the GT Veloce would be good. -DrewZilla

Hi Anthony, which are the lightest full face helmets?
@RevZilla
@RevZilla 8 лет назад
+Sebastian Fabritz Sanchez The Nexx XR2 Carbon Zero is the lightest full-face helmet we have currently. In size medium, it's 2 lbs. 12 oz. (1250g). The slightly less-expensive XR2 Carbon (non-Zero) is 2 lbs. 14 oz. (1300g) in size medium, and the composite XR2 is 3 lbs. (1350g). The AGV K5 is 1400-1450g. Hope this helps! -DrewZilla *www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/nexx-xr2-carbon-zero-helmet *www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/nexx-xr2-carbon-helmet *www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/nexx-xr2-helmet-solid *www.revzilla.com/agv-k5-helmets

Which one should I buy? AGV K3 SV or AGV K5? I don't really know the differences between them.. :D
@RevZilla
@RevZilla 8 лет назад
Mainly, the K3 SV has a more affordable thermoplastic resin shell construction, while the K5 has a lighter but more expensive carbon-fiberglass composite shell construction. The rear spoiler is also more pronounced on the K5. Otherwise, they have a similar fit, and both work well in most riding positions. If you can afford the lighter K5, go for it. Otherwise, the K3 SV is still a great option. -DrewZilla
