You could also ripple the laser variant, but only if the slant range is far enough and the distance between the targets is manageable, so the gunner has enough time to shift. The TADS actually lets you know when to ripple the next missile, based on flight time/slant range. It's up to the gunner to swiftly shift between targets.

@@grimreapers Actually, with a slant range over 5 km and using multitracker, it is very straightforward.

And has the benefit of being precise in situations where you really want each hellfire to hit your exact target (higher threat you won’t be able to handle with guns or rockets).

With the multi target tracking now you can lock a couple targets and splash a laser and use the offset button to jump between as well.

I really like Wags' tutorial videos but the one for setting up the Apache controls is just crazy, something like 30 minutes or more of just binding buttons. It literally broke my desire to learn the Apache. I knew that getting these missiles fired cannot possibly need pressing so many buttons. Then I came across this video and there you go, I bound the 10 or so required buttons and I can now fire the Hellfire missiles and I learnt how to do it in 7 minutes. There is a lot to be said for academic-style completeness, especially because DCS allows for that. But there is just as much to be said for simple, to-the-point lessons like these. Both are important, there are both types of players, but your videos are a lot of help for many of us who wants to know the quick basics instead of knowing every single detail. Thanks for making them.

Did you see that Australia is in negotiations with the US to release 41 retired “classic” F/A-18s to Ukraine. Some of these at least were used in ground attack roles in the middle east. It would be great to see some missions with these in Ukraine - maybe with F16s in support in air superiority (which you’ve already modelled) and SEAD. Seems like quite a kick-arse strike package.

@@grimreapers On further reflection, perhaps the goal should be for Ukraine to establish air dominance - so the initial missions would be focused on neutralising SAM sites. Decoys and HARM to drain / disable the SAMS. F16s providing air cover and F18s sterilising the sites.

Hornets can operate well in dispersed austere conditions. That makes them well suited for operations in Eastern and Southern Ukraine close to adversary assets. Reinforced airframes and gear for naval operations also is well suited for rough, damaged, or makeshift airstrips. Side intakes are less likely to ingest debris on takeoff and landing. Same applies to some other newer naval fighters such as block 3 Super Hornet and Rafale M F4

Legacy Hornets can potentially be upgraded with radars used in Super Hornets. Some have. This enables long range target tracking, support for modern long range missile variants, and makes them quite potent at beyond visual range combat.

Can you please help? My version (DCS for Steam, Apache) doesn’t have the L option/extra fuel/gun ammo option? I only purchased this DLC yesterday (04/JUL/23) so would have thought it’s up to date? I’m connected to the internet ( updates?) and doesn’t show an update is required? Thanks for the content, loving learning this aircraft through your tutorials

When you watch this video and get an urge to get AH-64 immediately, don't. Try the trial first. I tried the trial of AH-64 and let me tell you, you CAN NOT fly this with just a joystick alone! I have just a joystick, simple one, Saitek Cyborg Evo from mid 2000s (yes, it still works perfectly fine) and flying the Apache was impossible. Taking off, the chopper starts to spin AND roll, not uncontrollably but enough that you can never adjust for it with a joystick alone. You need to be adjusting with pedals and joystick at the same time. While in flight, it's alright, however, due to the nature of the chopper, you need to be always holding joystick in a certain position to avoid constant roll. So if you have a joystick that goes back to neutral, it's a constant strain on your hand. I'd say if you want to get AH-64 you need a full HOTAS setup and preferably one specialized for helicopters.

av just bought the apache trialed it 2weeks first , am using the T flight xbox hotas one ..and today just bought an extra control pad to operate george easier as a play in vr ..a can fire rockets and guns willy nilly but a still cant fire hellfires to a target with the pilot or george 😂 watched loads of tutorials the button mapping has got my head battered 🤯
