Turkish March (original name: Rondo alla Turca) (K. 331) is a composition by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. During the early Renaissance, the Ottoman Empire aroused admiration in Europe, and Europeans imitated Ottoman art styles by following a trend called turquerie. Inspired by the rhythm of the Janissary marches, Mozart composes the 3rd part of the piano sonata No. 11 in A major (K. 311) with the name "Rondo alla turca" (Turkish style rondo). This piece, which was composed not in 4/4 meter like western music, but in 6/8 meter like mehter marches, is performed entirely on the piano. This composition is used by the Republic of Turkey in all special invitations and country promotions. There is also a part of the Turkish Anthem among the 4 pages of original musical notes belonging to the Piano Sonata No. 11 in A Major, which was found in the archive of the Hungarian National Library in 2014.

Hey Rob: That instrument (5:29) is called the "Kanun" with the phonetic going like "Caanoon". You guys don't have/use it in Canada or in western music in general. This is a stringed acoustic instrument played over the lap and kind of looking like the pedal steel guitar yet sounds totally differently. I have been informed that the kanun usually has 26 sets of strings with each set having identical sounding 3 strings clustered together on a wooden platform. So the number of strings on a Kanun is 78 in total.
