This 16mm film explores the different ways of how families lived in the country of Japan during the years after the war in the 1950s. The film is in pretty good shape, the opening title is a bit rough, the rest is watchable.

Sad! Now 1/2 of japan’s people live alone or with pets. How did things turn like this ?

Late response but societal pressures, Japan is a collective country so everyone works towards the better of the country. Problem is a lot of the younger generation don't see their lives getting any better than they are now so they don't even try, Japan's modern culture puts a lot of stress on people. You are suppose to fit in and not stand out unlike a lot of western countries where you can express yourself. Technology has been a blessing and a curse for Japan, social media lets you live your life through other people instead of experiencing things for yourself. Japan isn't the only country, look at South Korea where the birth rate is below 1 child, it appears to be happening everywhere but Korea and Japan are ahead of the curve.

@@Chevymonster203 but that doesnt make sense at least on the birth rate level, low birthrates mean that in some years the country will have problems with very few children, jobs will need younger people but there wont be and it seems young people are thinking on themselves more than the greater good by not having children. i wonder what "greater good" they are trying to get by living alone or not trying to get married and have kids.

Japan is really not much worst off than Europe and the United States. It's just that Europe and the US have high rates of immigration to hide some of the negative effects of a aging demographic. Though is england still england without english people?

@@brunomoreno3666 uhhhh, climate change? Most young people, at least in the US, aren't having kids because they don't want to bring children into a dying world.
